  • In this video, I'll take you how to use a slit lamp. This video will be an intro to using the slit lamp. It will be helpful for those who are new to the field of ophthalmology or optometry. It will also be helpful if you're in medical school or about to do an away rotation or elective rotation in ophthalmology and want to know the basics on how to use the slit lamp before you hit the clinics. This video is just for basics. A later video will address the exam itself. I hope that all the doctors, med students, residents, optometrists, and ophthalmologists out there find this helpful. Don't be intimidated by the slit lamp; it may seem like a lot but you can definitely learn it.

    Hello there this video seems to be very informative. I am not in the medical field myself however as a patient who sees an eye doctor on a regular basis AKA ophthalmologist. It was very nice to see some of the behind the scenes of just exactly what's going on during my eye exams. I've always wondered what the different colored lights were. The slit lamp seems to be the primary instrument in an eye doctors office. Anyways thanks for sharing this was very interesting to watch.

    This is an excellent tutorial! Question: if you have a pt with a very peripheral small retinal tear - one they only notice when looking up, for example - how do you suggest visualizing it?

    • @doctoreyeballmd7493
      @doctoreyeballmd7493  Год назад

      I’m not sure I understand the question. A small tear is not typically noticeable to pts unless they’re having flashes/floaters from it. If there’s a small detachment that’s a bit more concerning. Let me know if that doesn’t clarify and I’ll try again.

    • @spiritchrysalis
      @spiritchrysalis Год назад

      @@doctoreyeballmd7493 Excuse me; poor choice of words. This is a situation where a pt was having a small but growing visual disturbance on the periphery of their vision, far enough in the periphery that it's in their (subjective) upper field of vision _when looking up_ but they don't notice it otherwise. The slow growth of it has been for over a year, and we haven't been able to visualize it yet. We've been trying to get creative and see if we can figure out a position with the slit lamp that essentially simulates that transient moment when they're looking up and it 'shimmers', by pt description. As it hasn't been visualized, there's not solid data on whether it's a small detachment, or small tear they can notice due to Sx.

    I am living in south america, I had an appoiment with an ophthalmologist, he dilated my pupils and made me fundus, I went only for a simple consultation because I am 40 now and my wife advised me for a complete vision study, 4 days after the consultation I still saw blurry, So I went to visit another ophthalmologist to ask him what was wrong in the consultation he puts into my eyes an orange drops to tint them and he examined me with the slit lamp. He also told me that everithing was right but my condition worsened because by the afternoon I saw more blurred, it is difficult for me to see and even more when I look away and before the consultation I was fine, now it is 20 days since I have been like this, maybe you think that there was mismanagement of the slit lamps with maximum lights.
    I am very distressed I hope you can answer me.
