That white stag was suppose to signal the gods approval of his heir. The King didn't get the right stag meaning his son shouldn't be the heir where as the white stag actually approached rhaynera meaning the gods actually want her to be heir. Her mercy is evidence of her claim and her own ability to think for herself.
I think it shows she has her own mind and compassion like John Snow you can see the similarities
I agree. Viserys was in a tough spot. He admitted to Alicent that he might've made the wrong decision naming Rhaenyra as heir too early out of grief.
Otto tried to convince Viserys to betrothed Rhaenyra to Aegon when that doesn't work, Otto used the sighting of the white stag as an important symbolism of the Kingwood. He exploited this as sign from God especially on Aegon's second Nameday; making Viserys doubted himself even more that Aegon should be named heir instead. So when they didn't caught the white stag, that made Viserys even more conflicted. He even admitted it to Rhaenyra that he did wavered at one point but he chose to keep Rhaenyra as heir and that she will never be supplanted.
Rhaenyra was also doubting her inheritance. That's why she asked Cristen whether the realm will accept her as queen. She was conflicted so when the white stag showed itself to her; she let it go because she finally realized that she didn't need god's approval. In that moment, she knows she will have fight for her claimed and inherent. And that's she's gonna prove it on her own that she deserves her claimed to the realm.
However, at the bonfire; Viserys did told Alicent about the dream of having a son sitting on the Iron Throne with Aegon's crown holding Blackfyre. And that was exactly what Alicent did to honor Viserys' wishes; after Viserys died. Alicent was a victim of Otto's game.
Dragons do have a special bond with their riders. In one of the interviews, Matt Smith(Daemon) said he and Caraxes are like one entity. They are both grumpy and moody. They mirror each other
Yes and as far as i remember, you can't take the 2 dragon. If your dragon dies, you lose it forever. Viserys dragon died and he didn't take a second one.
@@user-ff6dl9zr7uthat is not true at all, Viserys chose not to claim another he never even attempted it.
Spoiler:
When Sunfyre died Aegon intended on claiming another dragon he was gonna hatch another egg, but Died before he got the chance.
@@hokagedlo6133 Nobody in history of Westeros got a second dragon period. What are you talking about?
@@user-ff6dl9zr7u because dragons out live men 9/10. You said it isn't possible, which was never stated in the book quite the opposite actually. Don't present your opinion as fact when it's not, my opinion is backed by canon statements. I'd take the word of a dragon lord like Aegon II over yours any day.
The reason they didn't bring the dragons out, and the whole army was to bait the enemy out of the caves they hide in, that's why the dragons were ineffective, because they stayed in the caves.
So Daemon went on a suicide mission to bait them out of the cave by faking surrendering. And when they all came out, they came with the army and pulled up with the dragon.
The dragonrider is Laenor Velaryon - the son of Corlys Velaryon (the brother with the dreads, also nicknamed the Sea Snake). And Laenor's dragon is named Seasmoke.
Also the Crabfeeder is def dead. He isn't the main villain or something. He was diseased, and Daemon is amongst the most dangerous fighters in the kingdom. There wouldn't be a fight. Crabfeeder was a skilled leader of an army. He ain't a good fighter himself.
And crab feeder was also blind in one eye so def would not have been a worthy match for Daemon.
This was beautiful
Seasmoke which is the son's dragon blended in with the gray sky so that's why they didn't see him coming!
I'll be using "A legendary moose-deer" to define a stag from now on. 😂
This how language evolves
Guys, Rhaenyra can't marry Sir Criston. He's a Kingsguard and a Kingsguard swears an oath so he can't get married. His sole purpose in life is protecting the King.
Ohh we are going to give our thoughts on brother “Sir Criston” in episode 4 for sure!!
-Adison
When your watching the beginning sequence with daemon, dragons and their riders are so connected that when daemon is shot with an arrow, caraxes can feel his pain, also it’s quick to miss but when daemon raises his arm to block arrows, caraxes raises his wings to protect daemon from arrows
Crab feeder is dead af. Daemon is one of the best warriors in the realm, and the crab people were only winning because of a terrain advantage. He fought the war for the glory, we saw him get it. Nothing else needed to be seen
Otto is as calculating as a calculator. He wanted to make sure his grandson stayed safe by suggesting the marriage to Rhaenyra. That would’ve put a bow on the whole situation. Rhaenyra is underestimated. She’s been watching & listening the whole time. She’s about to become the dragon!
🤣🤣🤣 "WHO DO I THINK I AM? I'M NOT THE ONE!" I've laughed so much that my sides hurt.....legendary.moose.deer.😂😂😂
I had to pause and let ya'll know that. NOT ME!!!
-Adison
Apparently there are 3 breeds of dragon. My guess is the ones like Balerion are bred for war, because it has eyes to the front, for focusing on a target, the ones like Syrax are bred for hunting (because it has eyes more to the sides, like an eagle), and then there are long-necked ones like Caraxes, i think might be bred to be sensitive to danger, like a guard dog. I call Caraxes the Danger Noodle.
It is a tradition for House Targaryen (the royal family) to marry brother and sister. So from their view, there's no problem to it.
The King had an issue with little prince Aegon's age (being only 2). And Otto (the main adviser - Hand of the King) suggested this so that he can get his grandson - the young prince - on the throne WITH Rhaenyra. They would get them engaged and they'd actually marry when the baby prince hit puberty.
And also facts, Daemon was tryna make a name for himself, he had to get the w before the help came so that the credit belonged to him and not the King
House Targaryen: "If you can't keep it in your pants, keep it in the family."
I read comments on how all three , king , prince and princess , all killed this episode and showed kinda how their personalities are.
The king had to have his men hold the stag down and he looked uncomfortable
Princess killed only because she had to but was willing and covered in blood
Prince was aggressive and bathed in blood
But heard the crab king was more of a stepping stone in the story so definitely understand the doubt for sure but doubt he was a fighter , he looked like he wouldn’t of put up much of a fight but do think if we do see what happened it’ll be a flash back but do believe that was the crab king
Awesome reaction you guys are awesome
Few things I wanna mention.
- people addressing aegon as 2nd of his name is kinda disrespectful to Rhaenyra because he’s not the heir. The “__ of his/her name” title is only given when they’ve ascended to the thrown. That’s why Daenerys (in GoT) is Daenerys 1st of her name, even tho there’s been other Targaryen’s named Daenerys. And The person that was calling aegon the spitting image of Aegon the 1st(the conqueror) was Hobart Hightower, the older brother of Otto (the hand) and the lord of old town. So that whole family plotting against Rhaenyra & don’t respect her as heir.
- also the tree Rhaenyra was sitting under is a type of Weirwood tree (heart tree) which is a part of the religion of the northerners that worship the old gods.
- Also Ser Criston aka Ser Crispin Cole is a kings guard and is sworn to protect the royal family. He cannot hold any lands inherit any titles of father children. KingsGuard, like the men of the nights watch can’t marry or anything like that so he can’t really get with Rhaenyra officially
Also Rhaenyra is 17 in the show at this point and so is Alicent (the queen). In the books alicent is 9 years older but in the show they made them the same age for the drama.
Jason Lannister is the perfect portrayal of how a dude raised with money tries to flirt. He's used to being the richest and most powerful in the room so he thinks all he has to do is show up and ask lol
"If you cut through 50 of my homies, i'm gone!" ahahhah fr though
Man they gon call me the new Houdini. I’M Disappearing!!
-Adison
Yeah 35 stone is the weight. A stone is 14 pounds. So that white hart went about 500lbs.
If Otto could get Rhaenyra to marry Aegon, he’d have his great grandson (their child) on the throne. It’d stop her building her own strength by marrying a son from a different powerful family, and take her out of the breeding game for a dozen plus years. And in the mean time he could work to get Rhaenyra out of the way if she proved to be a problem.
"Stag" |stæg| 1. (noun): a legendary moose-deer. Singular.
Otto Hightower so is Scar! Good call.
From his mannerism, mentality, and malicious intent. That's him in human form!
-Adison
Bruh Prince Aegon (the little boy) is literally Otto’s grandson, if the king would’ve agreed to marry Rhaenyra to him,it would’ve made his grandson king
Tbh the Crabfeeder doesn't look like he is a good fighter, just a terrifying leader. The fight between Daemon and him would probably be quick, so they might just leave it out.
Agree-diseased and blind in one eye.
"legendary moose deer" LMAO
By proposing Aegon and Rhinaera marry, Hightower knows his grandsons legacy and his house station will vastly improve
"Second of His Name" refers to baby Aegon being, if he were to become king after Viserys, the second Targaryen king to bear the name "Aegon" (the first being the great king Aegon the Conqueror, who was Aegon I, first Targaryen monarch).
Love the decision to address comments in the beginning
I saw an artist's tutorial years ago that referred to most dragons as "Hang Butt Dragons", specifically because most artists don't bother connecting the wing far enough along. But ultimately the aerodynamics of dragons have more to do with the Rule Of Cool than the laws of physics.
Crabfeeder's done. Keep in mind this show has a lot of time to cover. We're in for a lot more time jumps. So every scene, every line is in service to building the larger plot and developing the main characters. Crabfeeder's threat showed us who Viserys, Daemon, and the Valeryons are.
Funny part about this whole episode is Otto suggesting Aegon. Forget he's her brother for just a second.
We're so concerned with a named heir that you're willing to wait at least 12 years for Aegon to mature for Rhaenyra to even start having children. She's 18 now. So she has to wait until she's 30? That's not even close to smart
31:56 LMFAO!!!! hes crying on the inside with joy and then the shock when Daemon kills the messenger. Oh im dyinggg at these reactions
Best commentary goes to "who do I think I am" 🤣🤣🤣 love the reactions.
The Triarchy troops were hiding in the caves whenever the dragons came through that's why they had to lure them out.
Leanor Velaryon (son of Corlys & Rhaenys ... his sister is laena) on his dragon Seasmoke...
I think crabfeeder is really dead... there will be multiple big bads in Thrones
They told the king the white stag was a good omen on Aegon’s name day... it symbolizes royalty and a leader so kind of suggesting Aegon would be heir...but the king didn't get the white stag, the white stag presented to Rhaenyra.
The King Viserys' parents were brother & sister. His Grandparents were also brother & sister.
Targaryen always marry each other, their parents are siblings, cousins, nephews/nieces.
@Day it's not a spoiler
@Day gonna erase the last part but the targaryen info indeed need to be inform, so they atleast knew how that fam roll when it comes to relationship
I might be late but Viserys had a dragon Balarion the black dread the oldest and biggest Dragon. His skull is in the crypts. Balarion died shortly after Viserys bonded with him. Balarion is only dragon that was hatched in valyria
FYI dragon lords (dragon riders) literally are called blood of the dragon. And they share blood with dragons that’s how Targaryen blood can ride the dragons. They have to keep their race from dying. Valyria blew up. All their people died. So they marry brother and sister. Niece and uncle. Etc. To keep the bloodline. And not dilute the dragon blood.
So the actress for Rhaenyra is 22 real life. When we first meet her & Alicent I believe they’re both 15, Rhae is for sure but Alicent may be a year older (16). The time jump we get in this episode is 3 years since not only has she carried her son to term & given birth but he’s just turned two this episode. Looking at how big her belly is I wonder if it’s been more like 3 years and some change, either that or she’s potentially carrying twins or triplets. Either way at the very least it’s been 3 years putting Alicent at 18-19 & Rhaenyra at 17-18.
In Arthurian-type mythology (which the author of the books, George RR Martin draws on strongly for the mythology of Game of Thrones' world), killing a stag, and a *white* stag specifically, is an incredibly bad omen. It shows Viserys is a weak king, who doesn't even know his peoples' own mythos. Rhaenyra seeing the white stag and letting it go is confirmation that she's the gods' chosen heir, while they're basically going to turn their back on her father.
The actor Matt Smith who plays Daemon Targaryen and the actor who plays Crabfeeder they never filmed the fight scene so they didn't show it, but it didn't make sense to show either, what a sick man with greyscale was going to do against Daemon and Dark Sister?
You were too busy talking and didn't see Daemon dragging the Crabfeeder's half body out of the cave.
Ser Criston is King's Guard. He can't take a wife.
Ohh brother Sir Criston was outta pocket in episode 4 then huh?… #videodroppingsoon
-Adison
By the law of Targaryen Exceptionalism incest was legal for the lineage as they were viewed as being 'other' (not quite human) due to their ability to bond with dragons. The Valyrians thought that intermarriage would keep the bloodline pure. It was common for brothers and sisters to be engaged while young children and married in mid-teens.
The Crabfeeder is indeed dead, he is not supposed to be a main plot point. He had a deadly disease called greyscale which has progressed quite a bit since we first seen him so this is why you don't see him fighting. He never was a fighter, he gets other men to fight for him.
Also the Knights of the kingsguard (Criston Cole) never marry or have children. It would be against the law for him to take any wives, he will never be married to anyone, these vows are sacred.
somebody in the show said he had a pox, don't think he had greyscale as no one would be around him as he couldn't be touched.
@@marvinbolden6882 it's been confirmed that he had greyscale. You can look it up. It's just a dumb plot point that daemon won't be affected I guess
Aerodynamics of the dragon 😂
My guess - Mr. Krabs was sickly af so it wasn’t even a fight. Daemon just made quick work of crab homie
There is actually an error in the episode where the VFX artists forgot to remove the king's fingers from the scene. You can see the green screen glove is still there. HBO is going to have that corrected and uploaded asap.
The Crabfeeder is not a fighter/ he just has a lot of followers that did shit. In the book they did not explain a fight just that he died by Daemon decapitating him.
Ser Cole cannot marry, he is a member of the King’s guard. They might F, but never marry.
They didn’t show Daemon kill the crab feeder because it was much more dramatic the way they did it because it wasn’t going to be much of a fight. The crab feeder wasn’t a swordsman or skilled in hand-to-hand combat.
@15:43 Yoooo the Scar comparison... good ear
At first I thought Daemon seemed like he might be a bit of a Goeffrey or Ramsey, with a bit of sadism style bloodlust 🩸but After this episode I can’t help but like him. He is the most likable character in the show so far, and the most interesting

They haven't seen GoT, so they don't know who Robert is.
But, yep, don't mess around with a boar!
Best explanation ever 😂.. it’s a legendary moose deer 🦌 #stag
Walking up under a peace banner (white flag) and then attacking is a chump move. Smart but in that world EVERYBODY would be talking shit bout you the rest of your life for pulling that.
