    I was in the path of totality in the 2017 eclipse.. It was surreal (other worldly) for just a few moments. You have to experience it in person.

      I've seen two in my lifetime and was hoping for a third but weather did let it be. First one was March 7th 1970 I was 7, second one was August 21 in 2017. The first one sort of frightened me☺😄 but I survived but the second was just something else. I can't really describe all the emotions I had but I truly was in awe!

    You know what just struck me? We had totality here in Central Ohio and amazingly, my house was in the path so we got to watch from the comforts of home which was fantastic.
    I watched it the sun go fully dark and my very first thought was "Is that all there is?" And as fantastic as it was, the lead up to it was in my mind even better as the light was just so different than either dawn or dusk. But your video all of sudden made me realize what I was thinking, the sun is really not that big in the sky and with the glow gone all you see is the real dimension of the sun. It looked so far away and so very much like less than I was expecting. Don't get me wrong it was fantastic and I loved every second of it but it seemed small. I also realized just how powerful the sun is as when totality was over, in that instance everything was light again.

  • @RideAcrossTheRiver

    It's the feeling of unreality and how the scene in the sky is just somehow ... TOO symmetrical.

  • @QuiranPup
    @QuiranPup Месяц назад +1

    I was unprepared for how underwhelming my expectations were to seeing this in real life.
    It was so much, so much more impressive and overwhelming than I ever could have imagined.
    For a small moment, time stood still.
    I don't know how to explain it other than the end of the world for a few minutes

    I was in a zone with 94% totality with a completely cloudless sky and did notice a dimming of sunlight for about three to four hours . I'm marveling at your Maine snow cover---we were shortchanged this El Nino winter in my area.

      I was in the 1999 path of totality, but just before totality, it got cloudy and it started to rain.
      That was where I decided that I would see an eclipse someday.
      25 years later, on another continent, I finally got to experience totality.
      It's an experience like never before, and something I know I will never forget.

    The best video I've seen yet on the eclipse. I was in Island Pond Vermont for the eclipse, but got too wrapped up in trying to photograph the diamond ring/totality (which completely failed), that I missed most of the actual event. The experience of having the effect of "the light turning off" at the last few seconds - as in this video - is what I seem to recall. It was amazing! Just wish I had paid more attention to my surroundings and forget photograph.

    • @HadrianBourdon
      @HadrianBourdon  Месяц назад

      Honestly had a similar expeirence with this one. I had to pull my filter off the lense which felt like it took half the eclipse but looking back at the footage only took about 10-15 seconds. And it felt like i barely looked at the eclipse when in reality i looked at for over 3 min. I think that because of how insane of an event it is your brain struggles wrap itsself around whats going causing you to completely loose track of time. I was shocked at how fast the 3 min went by felt like 2 seconds

    • @greenwich1754
      @greenwich1754 Месяц назад +1

      @@HadrianBourdon Good observations. It's the pressure, so to speak of trying to capture the moment, yet take it all in, in only 3 minutes - because you'll never see it again (unless you have money and are world eclipse chasers!). How does one "practice" to take photos of totality? Then there was almost the opposite effect - a deer in the headlights moment, because you can't believe what you are seeing! I remember looking at totality, just stunned by the white, pulsating (to my memory) solar radiances. Then BOOM! Here comes the sun on the other side. You are so right as to how quick 3 minutes go. Probably the best experience in my life.

      In the lead-up to this event, I heard an astronomer on a local Maine talk radio station advise that if this is your first (and maybe only) eclipse, just enjoy the show. I decided to take his advice ahead of time, but when totality came in Henderson, NY (and we actually DID see a fairly good corona), I found myself wasting a precious minute with my primitive camera. Realizing the folly of my ways, I reminded myself of the aforementioned advice, walked away from the camera, and enjoyed the rest of the show, which included a great "diamond ring" on the back side. :)

    Hi! Where is Mt. Chase? We have a camp on a Lake Moxie, about 25 miles SW of Greenville, path of totality went right over it. We elected to visit friends in central Texas given the higher probability of good weather, but those plans went south due to unforeseen circumstances, and the weather wasn't all that great anyway. Obviously, you had pluperfect conditions, who would have thought? Wish we had made the 12 hour trip from home in northeast PA, even just to see it from the side of the road in Jackman or wherever. We settled for Watertown NY, not far from home, weather was so-so, but we did see a nice corona. But it wasn't like yours! Thanks for the great video, you really caught the moment!

      I heard about a few people online who were planning on heading up there. I was going to do it myself however I had an exam the following day and wouldn't have been able to get out in time. One guy I met on Mt. Chase said it was illegal to be up there at that moment, he didn't specify why but he had been up there earlier that year. My guess is they didn't want complete novices heading up there and turning the whole day into a big search and rescue effort.
