      All my gravy and salad dressing, etc. packets live in a metal mesh CD basket. It is the perfect size and I can flip through them to see what I have. I have a Dollar Tree magazine holder for bags of pasta and a basket for all my beans and another for rice in my pantry. Works much better than just piles.

    I would've tossed all those Rubbermaid containers (red lids) and gotten new ones. I never store things that I know will stain in plastic--I use Corning Ware or glass containers that have lids. The new Tritan plastic containers are clear and stain resistant. They're a good investment.

    Hi Christine! I was wondering why you hate the air flow containers so much from Costco. I was just looking at those! Oh and I wanted to let you know girlfriend to girlfriend, that when your plastic ware gets scratched up and discolored like the one you put back in you cabinet, that it harbors bacteria. Totally sucks right?! Sorry/not sorry! Toss those too and stick to the glass stuff it’s waaay better!! 😊. My wife and I love your channel and we’re glad to finally say hi to our neighbors to the east!! ❤

    • @stevestewart007
      @stevestewart007 Год назад +2

      I hate it when things get heated up in the Rubbermaid and stains or burns the container. But since my guys take their lunches to work and glass containers are too heavy (and breakable), I buy the cheaper plastic lunch containers, When they get ugly, they are easier to toss. OR buy the more expensive, clear plastic Rubbermaid containers that won't stain or burn.

    • @TGIFEveryDay
      @TGIFEveryDay Год назад

      @@stevestewart007 I totally get what you’re saying about traveling to and from with plastic! I did find some pretty good glass containers that have silicone around them that protects them pretty well! I’ve had them for years and we love them! I don’t remember where I bought them so let me go snap a pic real quick and I’ll do a Google search so I can let ya know! BRB!! Ok, so it’s made by Elo Duraglass and they are available or were at Wal Mart, Target and Costco, which is where I think I got my set. I wish I could add my pic here for ya!!

  • @christinekalin3321

    One more.. just a suggestion. When you use reusable containers for food, especially for pasta sauce. Take a tiny bit of olive oil and coat the inside of the container before putting food in it.. or spray it with a tiny bit of Pam. Then the sauce won’t stain

    Newer to your channel. Love watching declutters. Thank you for sharing. I know you put a lot in the “donate” bin. I’m sure that was just a term for things for you to give away in some way. However, just a reminder to everyone to only donate what is in very good condition. Most Goodwill or other donation sites trash more than 50% of the donations they get. I try not to donate something in order for someone else to trash. Sometimes I offer on FB free groups, etc. But worst case scenario I will trash it myself instead of giving someone else a job to trash. They have to pay their staff and pay for trash collection. You are actually usually costing them money if you give them subpar items.

      Additionally, I love leftover nights! I plan that into my week 2-3 nights depending on what I cook. Also, I'm usually only cooking for 3 (my daughter doesn't always eat what I make), so I'll make half of dinner for dinner and put the rest in a freezer pan and freeze for another night I can grab and dethaw. It is hard to eat the same leftovers for several days in a row.

    The "I'm not cooking" line. YES! I actually plan for leftovers or 'upcycle' meals with leftover items. But there are people out there that never eat leftovers. Yes, you heard me. A friend of a friend told me she and her family 'hate' leftovers. Wow. I refrained from saying I like to work smarter not harder and am preparing kids for life without a maid. But I didn't. Cause I'm generally nice. Second, that glass lid to the instant pot is pretty useful in my world. I serve buffet style out of it and the glass lid keeps things warm. And in a pinch (yogurt etc) I use it instead of a plastic tight lid for storage. But we all know what works (and doesn't) so am taking inspiration from some of your ideas. TY.

  • @jlow27
    @jlow27 Год назад +2

    So funny you did this video because I’ve been decluttering my home all summer long (I’m lucky that I work at my kids’ school and have off all summer with them). Since I’ve gotten all of the really unnecessary things out of my home, I’m staring to focus on things in places I use, or don’t use, all the time. That brings me to my kitchen today. It’s in pretty good shape but my Tupperware cabinet is bursting lol. So that will get filtered out today. Then some cabinets just have a couple things in them, which I may only use for holiday dinners. Things are getting purged and reorganized and your video just gave me the reassurance that I don’t need as much as I have. And I love how you got rid of pieces to things you don’t use as well. I think we keep them because “we might need them” or if we donate them someday, we want to have everything that goes with it. But I can’t live for someday anymore. I need to live in the present and really take notice of what I use and what I’ve never used and won’t ever use. Thanks, Christine!! ❤

    I decant my medications into pretty bottles and display them prominently in my room and I've never forgotten to take them as a result. I enjoy the ritual and looking at the bottles (I chose amber glass to keep the contents safe from light as well as air). I don't own a single water bottle, hehe. I do have a lot of coffee mugs. I'm working on six right now. My Mum also has six, plus two tea mugs. I use 1-2 a day, though. I like to see them and I like to wash them after each use. We display them over our cofffee maker since we like that decor style. My fridge...actually is just very empty. I don't have much in it. It works...sort of. If I fill my fridge up it doesn't work. Same with the freezer. I have to eat left overs the next day or their dangerous. I've cut eggs out almost entirely. I do keep a ridiculous amount of cheese, though, I eat it 2-3 times a day (different kinds). I only have 4 spices that I actually use. I have a lot of allergies so it works for me and it saves space. Over all, decluttering for me takes place every where but the kitchen!

    The little plastic cups for the instant pot attach to the back to catch “overflow” liquid. They are quite helpful if you accidentally overfill a little. Also, as you work your way through your plastic storage containers you might consider replacing with glass because of the possible carcinogenic potential of microwaving in plastic.

    I put a thin potholder between each pan o they don’t scratch and have the hot pad to use while cooking.

    I think I have a few of these cabinets. I’m still in late Spring cleaning of this year. Getting ready to clean out bathroom. Wanted to paint bathroom and kitchen but.. don’t see that happening this year yet. I’m disabled so..I need hubby’s help. Health isn’t the greatest.

    If you have thick wooden cutting boards, just sand them down and apply food-grade beeswax to them. Good as new!

    I recently purged my plasticware cabinet. Great feeling! So much better. I do have 5 wooden cutting boards. In fact I have 6. I not only use them for cutting but I more often use them as trivets for hots pans/dishes from the stovetop/oven, or to set the crock pot or air fryer while in use on to protect by countertop. So I use all of mine! I did a major edit of my pots and pans last year, and have a kitchen stash for my two young adult kids to pull from for their first apartments.

    Great video Christine! Tidied up our pantry yesterday and took stock of what we have. Ended up cooking yellow split peas and making hummus😋 and it's freezable so works for batch cooking. Today will be pots and pans as I too have a wok that I can't remember the last time was used.
