I see comments like this about how easy the Ender Dragon fight is a lot, and while they're not wrong, I feel as though they undersell how daunting it can be for a younger or newer player to achieve. If I was to go to fight the dragon now, there's a pretty good chance I can beat it first try because I know what I'm doing. It's worth noting that a lot of the early game achievements were replaced not with equivalent advancements, but on-screen prompts ("Press 'E' to open your inventory") or the recipe book telling you what you can craft. I think that's a more natural way to handle a lot of these achievements since it acts more as a proper tutorial and is more flexible in design.
9:29 you could throw a diamond at a zombie to get this, but it was so rare for zombie to pick it up. Also notch apple just needed 8 gold blocks to craft.
"When pigs fly", was literally telling you to jump off a cliff. You wouldn't want to have this in a game this popular to then have to fight the allegations.
a lot of the achievements that were removed served as tutoials. Some of them should come back because there's currently noting in the game that explains these functions. Take the cooked fish one. That tells the player that they can fish (remember, fish didn't exist as mobs so the water used to look empty) and also that food can be cooked. It might seem obvious, but there's actually nothing in the game that tells the cook stuff in a furnace. It's a furnace used for smelting, not an oven used for cooking (except it is) Likewise, bread used to be a pretty important main food source. the achievement was to let new players know that bread actually exists and that they can make it. of course, having new recipes pop up when you pick things up fills that niche to some degree
I can't help but notice many of these (mainly Cow Tipper and When Pigs Fly) involve killing animals... Maybe that's why they removed them. Mojang doesn't seem to like it when players kill animals these days.
As a regular Smite user, let me tell you, you can instantly kill any skeleton or zombie variant in one hit with a Smite V diamond sword so overkill is an easy achievement in that sense without a strength potion.

A thing to add about the achievements was that they weren’t world linked like advancements, but were player linked which means once you got them they weren’t achievable again unless you reset/updated Java or something like that (I believe using a different computer to play would do this as well). It’s nice they made them tied to worlds instead since they have always been a mild tutorial guiding you through the entire game. Also I always enjoyed the on a rail achievement since it was a good indicator of how far you’ve gotten in a world that you’d both need, and have the recourses to do build such a long rail.
Largely unrelated to the video, but I'd 100% recommend playing portal! All of Valve's games (excluding Half-Life: Alyx) often go on sale for less than $10 in a bundle during steam sales.
One interesting case of achievement is "Serious Dedication" because it's to my knowledge the only advancement that changed post 1.12. As of 1.16, the advancement requires to craft a netherite hoe. But before 1.16 as netherite didn't exist yet, It required not just crafting a diamond hoe, but using all of its durability.

Whats super weird is some of these achievements are used on the bedrock editions of ps4 and Xbox One since they carry over there original legacy console trophys/achievements
Dawg that 500 blocks in one direction always stumped my ass! Back on my old Xbox 360 save I beaten the wither 90 times in total yet never fucking drove a minecart 500 blocks in one direction
I think it would be fun to see someone in the MODERN game complete all the cut achievements for fun, it could be a silly side quest for a minecraft world, you just group up all those cut achievements and try to get them as you play Also if Game Theory's..well, *theory* on Minecraft's lore is accurate to what the devs intended it would be interesting to see "The Beginning?" or "The Beginning." return because it would be huge lore relevance and would actually align with the story since the birth and death of the wither can both be seen as "how the end of the ancient civilization began"
10:15 in the legacy console editions, there are also a lot of these achievements and the minecart one has to be changed to 500 blocks for it to be possible since those versions weren’t infinitely generating
That's what I was saying! I remember being so intimidated when I saw "The beginning?" Which is so much better than Withering Heights. "The End?" and "The Beginning?" have the same vibe as "Those were the days" in the sort of cryptic style that I really like. Also I always thought "Whatever Floats your Goat" was earned by riding it off a cliff but I guess that was from what I remembered of "When Pigs fly"
a big issue with when pigs fly is back in ye olden days, even with carrot on a srick, ligs would not naturally fall off of cliffs, so it took so tedious ingenuity to get the pig to take fall damage. i assume thats why they made it an achievement in the first place
Some of the achievements aren’t “Cut” Cut from the game as a whole. I remember playing the latest version of Minecraft at the time on my switch (being 1.19 with 1.20 experimental features still being a thing) and I remember that these achievements were still in the achievements menu for bedrock versions and when I was playing in my worlds, I remember that I dealt 9 hearts of damage to the iron golem that spawned near my villagers and loading up a seed with a notch apple at a close structure to get the diamond skin pallet. But yet again there was no advancements about cooking a salmon, or putting bookshelves around an enchantment table. Not to sound like a nerdy commenter, but some of these “cut” advancements are still in the game.
I feel like the cow tipper achievement should’ve gotten revamped into one for making leather armor, since everyone always skips straight to iron cause it’s simpler
I have to mention that the advancement "Withering Heights" is a play on the book "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontë. But the book sucks ass so yeah they should change it back.
You should absolutely play portal, super fun puzzle games with cool lore and story. If you’re fav parts of new Zelda are shrines you’d like portal, the test chambers are basically shrine puzzles. Shocking you haven’t played it yet.
I feel like "Getting wood", "Hot topic", and "When pigs fly", were very iconic achivements, even if two of them could be a bit redundant (You can get aquiring hardware through iron golems and chests anyway)
Some of the achievements you called unnecessary or filler made sense before the recipe book. Without that, it helps to have some indication of how to make a furnace, or bread, or whatever.
I remember back in the day like 2012 I watched some guy trying to get the "On a rail" and "When pigs fly" achievements and struggled quite a lot with both. iirc, he was especially frustrated with how rare saddles were and how they were lost upon the pig's death making it very hard to do it properly, there was also no carrot on a stick in that version. On a Rail was easy but just ABSURDLY time-consuming. I think when Notch added these in he just thought of what might sound challenging without realising _how_ challenging it was.
Definitely agree that the wither achievement should be restored to "The Beginning?" It both matches nicely with The End and also helps imply that while you may have beaten The End of Minecraft there is still so much to experience in your world
Minecraft's Achievements _were_ the tutorial, which is why it retroactively looks weird that there are so many basic ones. You didn't have a recipe book, and you didn't _really_ have RUclips to watch and learn from, and there definitely weren't very many or even popular wiki sites to learn from either. RUclips did exist and people made content about Minecraft (duh), but it wasn't really a place to learn, more it was a source of entertainment watching people _also_ not really know how to play the game and learn (or not learn) how to play themselves, with the viewer being there primarily to watch the funny man do funny things. You had to go out of your way to search for a more "standard" tutorial or guide for the game (like buying an actual physical book or magazine) and that wasn't really a thing that people did for most games back then, it wasn't the norm to do meta research and play alongside a guide because games were still culturally extremely niche and not popular enough for there to be a large collection of people that dedicate themselves to creating extensive guides on how to "optimize your play" or people to consume said content, unlike today where going into a game blind is itself the niche thing to do now that there are so many sources to learn from compared to back then. It's easy to under-appreciate and take for granted the work put in to try to teach the player in a way that isn't shoving forced tutorials down your throat, or from having such lackluster tutorials that people have to go to a third party to actually learn how to play the game.
Half of those starting achievements were good for playthroughs that they do the border that expands with achievements, but I understand why they got rid of it
Do a video talking about the Mario Kart tracks that never got remade in future game, excluding of course Super Mario Kart remakes in Super Circuit, Tour, and the Mario Kart 8 nitro tracks.
In case you're interested, there are 2 ways to get on a rail that take significantly less time than placing 1000 minecart rails The first one is to go on the nether roof, place 3 minecarts slanting down a few rails so that they'll roll into each other and continue indefinitely, which still requires you to wait while you travel 1000 blocks but doesn't require you to place more than a few rails. The second is significantly faster, but only works on 1.9+. Find an end gateway, place rails going into it, enter it and then place rails going into it the other way. Now travel through the gateway in a minecart. Because gateways take you over 1000 blocks, if you go through it in a minecart on rails the game considers this 1000 blocks travelled. Because there is a way to do it quickly, I wouldn't mind this being reintroduced. However, I get people not wanting to use methods that clearly go against what an advancement was intended to do, so I can see the argument either way
One thing to keep in mind, before advancement, there is no crafting book, meaning you have to discover the recipe (or look them up). So having individual achievement for make tools/weapon make sense.
Minecraft removing stuff like the cake is a lie and on a rail is once again them proving how soulless and corporate the game is now and how desperate they are to wipe notch from the game itself
The rail one was most likely an important thing to set up prior to Beta 1.8, when sprinting was introduced. When it was created, it would fall under the "Important to Progression" category.

You could just wait until 250K and make it a 250K special... or it might even happen before it releases
I even forgot they changed the achivement menu
I do not know but I rly liked the old achievement feature like a lot
That's what I was saying! I remember being so intimidated when I saw "The beginning?" Which is so much better than Withering Heights. "The End?" and "The Beginning?" have the same vibe as "Those were the days" in the sort of cryptic style that I really like. Also I always thought "Whatever Floats your Goat" was earned by riding it off a cliff but I guess that was from what I remembered of "When Pigs fly"
Fun fact: almost or maybe all of these achievements are available in bedrock
odyssey central’s gonna have to worry about both his 200k special AND his 250k special soon
At this point that's just impossible. He needs to space these specials out more so he doesn't bite more than he can chew.
a big issue with when pigs fly is back in ye olden days, even with carrot on a srick, ligs would not naturally fall off of cliffs, so it took so tedious ingenuity to get the pig to take fall damage. i assume thats why they made it an achievement in the first place
He was talking about Java edition bruh. Most if not all achievements are still a thing on Bedrock.... 🤦
Maybe you could go over the advancements that are in MC Bedrock edition, there are some pretty cool ones on there
Image we hit 300k before the 200k special
I miss the "taking inventory" achievement, :
SINCE WHEN WAS "WHEN PIGS FLY" REMOVED!?
Java Players: GIVE US ACHIEVEMENTS!! Bedrock Players: We Have ‘em. Mojang: Yeah, Play Bedrock or Old Java. Java Players: ;-;.
They probably removed the "tutorial" achievements because they added tutorials.
Fun fact: most of these achievements were made into trophies in console versions of MC lol
Some of these are still used/referenced in bedrock achievements
Like “overkill” “when pigs fly” and “on a rail”
Definitely agree that the wither achievement should be restored to "The Beginning?" It both matches nicely with The End and also helps imply that while you may have beaten The End of Minecraft there is still so much to experience in your world
Ranking every Minecraft Advancement when?
We need A Lie and When Pigs Fly back
Fun fact all those achievements are still in bedrock edition :(
Half of those starting achievements were good for playthroughs that they do the border that expands with achievements, but I understand why they got rid of it
He did it guys
Its weird that a lot of these are still in bedrock
As someone who recently tried to start playing Minecraft blind, I would have LOVED those "simple" achievements as a guide for how to get started
Do a video talking about the Mario Kart tracks that never got remade in future game, excluding of course Super Mario Kart remakes in Super Circuit, Tour, and the Mario Kart 8 nitro tracks.
Maybe Odyssey could still do a ranking of all 96 tracks of Mario Kart 8 deluxe
"And I just got an achievement for having a stiffy"

In case you're interested, there are 2 ways to get on a rail that take significantly less time than placing 1000 minecart rails
The first one is to go on the nether roof, place 3 minecarts slanting down a few rails so that they'll roll into each other and continue indefinitely, which still requires you to wait while you travel 1000 blocks but doesn't require you to place more than a few rails.
Some of these are still on bedrock
Advancements are exclusive to java edition
@@madekillasam1553yeah, they’re still in bedrock as achievements
@@madekillasam1553they're in bedrock as achievements:)
@@madekillasam1553
Because Bedrock has *_Achievements_* instead of Advancements.
You have angered the Bread Pirate for your bread removing sins!
