What saddens me is that all his interviews were obsessed with his drinking and hardly ever about his work, would love to hear on-set anecdotes, deeper thoughts regarding his roles he played, thoughts on comedy in general, his writing process etc.
oh how I love that man. he was so clever, witty, brave and honest! it breaks my heart that he is gone, but so thankfull that he has lived and every great thing he has done
When Graham said he was a very shy person my heart went out to him and I just wanted to hug him! Life can be so cruel. Love to you Graham, whereever you are.
He was a lovely gentle bloke actually, away from the outright silliness. This interview is brilliant. RIP Graham, you were wonderfull and often too silly...
In many ways, Graham Chapman was the most intelligent and talented of the Python's and yet he was never quite able to figure himself out. As great an actor/performer as he was, as great a writer as he was, I always find it a great shame that he was never able to find any real success in his own right.
This kind of footage is always needed in those documentaries where Chapman's alcoholism is discussed. Him actually admitting it is very rare to be seen. Whats really nice, its how apologetic to the group he sounds. I really liked this show. Thank you for showing us this video.
Yeah Spider, I agree, it can't have been easy, I think Graham seems so humble in this interview, admitting his alcoholism and just being honest about it. Graham Chapman was a brilliant funny man and it is still sad to think he is no longer with us. He is missed. I have been watching the IFC Monty Python programming all this week, it is so great to watch the films and the MPFC episodes again. Classic and pure genius.
Great interview. Always wanted to know his thoughts on the filming of Holy Grail later in life. Shame he died young, RIP. Brilliant actor, writer and guy.
actually i find that quite encouraging, because he was very obviously over them at the time, and quite open and calm. and his description of getting dt's in armour is actually quite hilarious. what really gives me the chills is his cough though... :-(
A very intelligent guy he was, and very talented. They lost a very good soul. I love watching some clips from the Monty Python series. These guys are great! R.I.P. Graham.
He also makes some interesting comments in his album - "Looks like Another Brown Trouser Job". Love Graham RIP, Thanks for posting this. Another reminder to appreciate the people we love while they are here!
Yeah that clearing of the throat is kind of chilling when you consider that he'd be diagnosed with throat cancer a year later. Of course it might not neccessarily be related, but still. Anyway, great find!
I just took a class where HPV is being linked to tonsular cancers and other cancers of the saliva drainage areas in young males. I immediately thought of Dr. Chapman. Because the profiteers are charging so much for inoculations, nobody wants to inoculate young boys - only females who might get cervical cancer from "sexual contact". Gay men need to address this. It might save another Graham Chapman. May he rest in peace.
forgotten all about this Scottish interviewer along with " elbows forward" Muriel Gray who were the sharp dudes of the incisive interview in the era of the swarmy Jonathan Ross. It all looks a bit shabby nowadays, the shoulder pads and mismatched colours. Still it is a fair trade to put up with him in order to listen to the fascinating Graham Chapman.
He felt his alcoholism was unfair to the others, because he wasn't sure he was able to do that scene. (He adds as a side-note that he did manage to do the scene.)
@MoveOverCasanova You're partly right. He wasn't *fully* gay, he was bisexual. But I highly doubt it was phoney, since he was with the same guy from 1966 until his death.
Most gay guys were "bisexual" at those times. They had to be for various reasons. It still happens today a lot. By the way Graham yes was with the same guy for decades but still had a lot of sex with other men too. His mates confirmed that.
If he'd stayed with us longer, he'd've done a lot more great work- The Python canon would've been bigger and greater. He was part of a remarkable team, all of whom did fine work in their own right. Jones and Palin appear to be extremely nice people- Possibly Idle too. Chapman was as much a gentleman as Jones and Palin are. Ah well- He's not the Messiah- He's a very naughty boy!
i was just sayin that cause of the way she was speaking, remember im only a teen im used to poeple talkin on youtube with comments like "hes mine" and all that i was just pointin it out, i have absolutly nothing against gays etc!
I feel the way this interviewer brought up grahams alcoholism was unprofessional, in bad taste and unimportant at the time. A good interviewer will let the person tell his tale, and maybe guide him subtlety towards different parts of his life. Not blurt out "you thought the world was 3 drinks behind didn't you..you were an alcoholic"
No, what he says further, when was raining and he was in armour, whem God pointed him and so on. Can you just write it, and I translate by myself, thank you very much)))
it doesn't mock Jesus, but it does mock Christianity/Jesus indirectly b/c the movie mocks the people who would believe in such a thing/person...thus their parodies thruout the movie
@lisambofoh good comment -- i´d say he was too openminded and got worn out by his own attitude -- i mean society just doesn´t accept "declared" bisexuality, and it seems to me as that was much of chapman´s point,-->" to justify it, --- and people making a big topic of their brave sexuality are always a bit of a pain in the ass
what didthat guy down there say, god damn, dont rate him down, then other people cant see the comment and rip the shit out of him, wen will people learn
@kzbxvz you mean still one of the funniest persons IN the earth. Oh wait, he was cremated. Never mind. :) But yeah, he was hilarious, I really love him
Please, someone, translate it into russian. Or write in english. I understand only some sentences. I really want to know his story about God and alcoholism.)))))
he is so sweet, it dampens my eyes seeing his last look in this clip! it is so sad, because i am pretty sure that his premature death and sickness was deeply connected with his phoney homosexuality - this cutie just looks so far from being fully gay and he surely knew it
What saddens me is that all his interviews were obsessed with his drinking and hardly ever about his work, would love to hear on-set anecdotes, deeper thoughts regarding his roles he played, thoughts on comedy in general, his writing process etc.
oh how I love that man. he was so clever, witty, brave and honest! it breaks my heart that he is gone, but so thankfull that he has lived and every great thing he has done
I still love Graham Chapman, my favourite Python.
He had such a deadpan, parchingly, gaspingly dry delivery, which I absolutely adored. None funnier.
When Graham said he was a very shy person my heart went out to him and I just wanted to hug him! Life can be so cruel.
Love to you Graham, whereever you are.
Graham was a wonderful man. Intelligent and honest and a great, great talent. A huge loss. Love you Graham.
Graham was great and a very goodlooking man. The world lost a jewel and it'll never come back.
One of my favorite comedians
He was a lovely gentle bloke actually, away from the outright silliness. This interview is brilliant. RIP Graham, you were wonderfull and often too silly...
Thank you very much for this great footage, showing the most human and honest side of the great late Graham.
he was my favorite python. thanks, graham
he was simply too great for this world..too special..
In many ways, Graham Chapman was the most intelligent and talented of the Python's and yet he was never quite able to figure himself out.

thanks a lot, michtyme3, for the upload.
more Chapman footage is what we need.
RIP Mr Chapman - you are still sadly missed :-(
i think he was the best actor of the monty python guys.
actually i find that quite encouraging, because he was very obviously over them at the time, and quite open and calm. and his description of getting dt's in armour is actually quite hilarious. what really gives me the chills is his cough though... :-(
So honest. died far too young. No part two ?
A very intelligent guy he was, and very talented. They lost a very good soul. I love watching some clips from the Monty Python series. These guys are great! R.I.P. Graham.
Graham Chapman the unlikely gay man was and still is one of the funniest persons on earth.
He also makes some interesting comments in his album - "Looks like Another Brown Trouser Job". Love Graham RIP, Thanks for posting this. Another reminder to appreciate the people we love while they are here!
You're right. This is one of those interviews that matter.
Graham would be 69 today, hadn't life been so harsh and unfair.
Happy Birthday, lovely Graham!
God love him.
Taken too soon, and sadly missed
This is a fantastic video. Thank you for posting.
Well, the interviewer was being truthful. Celebrities get away with bad habits a lot easier than normal people.
Wow. This was 2 years before his death... Poor Gra :(
You're either completely out of work or madly overworked. So true my dear. Chapman really was the spirit of Python - RIP.
If you all have footage/interviews with Graham Chapman PLEASE UPLOAD THEM!!! They're so rare!
that was only two years before he passed away
God bless you always my friend! :)
Yeah that clearing of the throat is kind of chilling when you consider that he'd be diagnosed with throat cancer a year later. Of course it might not neccessarily be related, but still. Anyway, great find!
and to think that 1 year later he died, i love monty python, its just not the same without him =\
...Yeah, it would be his birthday today...
Happy Birthday, Graham!
We miss you all
Oh Graham, how we love you!
i miss him so much!!! :( i wish i had been born earlier!
And I was in armor….
I just took a class where HPV is being linked to tonsular cancers and other cancers of the saliva drainage areas in young males. I immediately thought of Dr. Chapman. RIP Graham
@jonchapple Actually, he came out in 1960s Britain.
Proof positive that even the Greats aren't perfect, and that's fine.
forgotten all about this Scottish interviewer along with " elbows forward" Muriel Gray who were the sharp dudes of the incisive interview in the era of the swarmy Jonathan Ross. he must have been great fun when he was pissed !!
Have a look at the interview with him and George melly, proper funny 😂
He realized his alcoholism was unfair to the others, and to himself. Months later, when he had some time, he decided to stop drinking.
Where he has been joined by Jerry Falwell and hopefully by Pat robertson :)
yeah i found that throat clering thing very creepy because of that cancer reason
@markxxxyx I'm unbelievably jealous, was he as wonderful as he seems? I love him, a incredible rare breed.
it sad to hear him talk about his problems
He felt his alcoholism was unfair to the others, because he wasn't sure he was able to do that scene. (He adds as a side-note that he did manage to do the scene.)
yes

yellow beard is the best movie of all time
115% I think is the going tax rate in Britain.
@armadafanforever Hell yeah man!! Graham agree from whatever!!!

Does the entire vid of the interview exist somewhere?
There's something incredibly distressing about Paul Coia's 80s haircut in this clip.
i was just sayin that cause of the way she was speaking, remember im only a teen im used to poeple talkin on youtube with comments like "hes mine" and all that i was just pointin it out, i have absolutly nothing against gays etc!
@54spiritedwill54 Amen :)
No, you do mean to be a jerk. Good luck with that.
At 1:59... a Python moment.
I feel the way this interviewer brought up grahams alcoholism was unprofessional, in bad taste and unimportant at the time. Really? You think so?
@lisambofoh
good comment -- i´d say he was too openminded and got worn out by his own attitude -- i mean society just doesn´t accept "declared" bisexuality, and it seems to me as that was much of chapman´s point,-->" to justify it, --- and people making a big topic of their brave sexuality are always a bit of a pain in the ass

@jonchapple
ok, i am ashamed,- i forgot what a big deal "being gay in the 70ies" is )))
@kzbxvz you mean still one of the funniest persons IN the earth. Oh wait, he was cremated. Never mind. :) But yeah, he was hilarious, I really love him
Please, someone, translate it into russian. Or write in english. I understand only some sentences. I really want to know his story about God and alcoholism.)))))
Who farted at 1:59 ??
me neither. it's really disrespectful and overall not right. i mean come on, should you really be speaking ill of the dead?
he is so sweet, it dampens my eyes seeing his last look in this clip!
it is so sad, because i am pretty sure that his premature death and sickness
was deeply connected with his phoney homosexuality -
this cutie just looks so far from being fully gay and he surely knew it
Bigot
merseygroup: shame on you. I apologies on behalve o christianity.
chapman died of cancer, because of his smoking habits
