My Best Video: "How Great Thou Art - Peter Hollens feat. The All-American Boys Chorus"
• Video

Absolutely blown away by the positive response this video is getting! I was so worried because of it being traditional folk songs, that everyone might not enjoy this. Don't forget to let me know your favorite folk song down below to finish the album with! I'm choosing what YOU guys want!
Of course it's great.. I (along with countless others, I'm sure) suggested it. ;) nice work!
Although I did mention Loch Lomond, I remembered another one that I love. "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. I live right beside where the Edmund Fitzgerald sunk.
Blowin in the Wind
Amazing Grace
I LOVE IT, OF COURSE!! You're got such a wonderful voice, Peter - you could do any song justice!
Or do You are my Sunshine by Johnny Cash
My Dad used to sing this to me, it's comforting to hear it
Love the simon & garfunkel version. You should take a crack at Sound of Silence!
Thank you my friend! Can't wait to do our collaboration! :) When do you want to finalize it!? Anything I can do to help!?!?! :)
***** yes, do a collaboration with paint, that would be awesome.
also sound of silence is awesome!
***** because of your work with this song, i don't run out of the room screaming. my 6th grade music teacher pounded it into our heads.
+Peter Hollens you should collaborate with someone and do the original
+Paint That is a wonderful idea!
It amazes me how lasting music is. This song is hundreds of years old, and still just as powerful.
I placed second in a singing competition in high school with this song, so it has always held a special place in my heart - its just a beautiful classic song.
Brand new folk song single, from my first ever Album! Scarborough Fair - Peter Hollens & Album News! - Start your day off with some music! :)
Well that was pretty much perfect. Can't wait to get your folk song album!
pls Peter just listen one time "honor for all"
Amazing Peter!
***** Thank you! Much appreciated, and that's what I really love doing, so it helps, ha
Ahmet Bozkurt ha, I will definitely listen
My Newest Video! Scarborough Fair! :) Scarborough Fair - Peter Hollens & Album News!
Love it :)
Thanks, that's a really nice song, and your performance was great!
so peaceful, beautiful.. what a great job Peter !!! Thx for sharing this with us
That's just amazing ! ♥
amazing :) this was my all-time favourite song by Simon&Garfunkel and you made a perfect acapella version
I was recently introduced to your beautiful voice, I am amazed. Your voice is absolutely the most angelic I have ever heard. I want to listen to no one else anymore. If I had heard of you sooner, I would have walked down the aisle and danced my first dance to you at my wedding. You have an amazing gift, your music uplifts those who hear you. You bring joy to all those who hear you. Keep doing what you are doing and people will continue to fall in love with your music, your voice and the man behind the voice. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world and for spreading joy and hope with your talent.
As a child of the 60's, growing up on Simon & Garfunkel.... daaaaaamn! Haunting, and lending itself more to the Olde English traditional folk version of this song. Beautifully done, Peter.
Recovering from 2nd stroke .,. your voice lifts my spirit ... thanks!
One of the finest renditions of this song I have ever heard. And I spent 12 years working as a costumed character at the renaissance festival called Scarborough Faire, so I've heard a few renditions.
7 Daffodils. You are remarkable, and it would be so wonderful to hear you sing this lovely song. My husband was a folk singer back in the '60s and watched the Limeliters come together in San Francisco. They are still my favorite folk group, but your voice is so magnificent that it even outshines Glen Yarbrough! And that's hard to do. Thank you for all of this wonder!
Amazing to see someone sing these beautiful songs the way they were intended... So many try to "fix them"... Truly stunning.
Agreed. I started listening to Nox Arcana's version, but they replaced the herbs with "yesterday brings back memories in time" Apparentally they didn't know the symbolism behind the herbs.
All the Pretty Little Ponies, Time in a Bottle, Cat's in the Cradle are all favorites. Love this version of Scarborough Fair! Beautifully done!
I love your music, your voice and really I prefer your folk music. Maybe you can search in the 40,50 and 60's music, like Beging the beging, Moon river, Blue moon, 16 tons, and many of that beatiful music that young people do not know, Trouble waters, The sound of silence you did them perfectly. God bless you with a beautiful voice. I will wait for your Christmas music. Thank you so much.
Thank you for your lovely comment! I love your music taste and suggestions. I’ll definitely consider doing some of those songs in the future. 😊💕
A timeless classic, a wonderful arrangement and a brilliant performance.
You da man Peter. Wow.
***** This song & the ballad it's inspired from (The Elfin Knight) are not that old, it's actually closer to the late 1600s.
The Middle Ages ended in the early 1500s.
Thank you for doing this song. I requested you do this about 3 months ago and when I got the email saying you had done this song I started jumping around and telling my husband you did this just for ME! I know you didn't, but I can have my fantasies! Thank you, thank you, thank YOU!
haha, no, totally have that thought. :) You and others who talked about it definitely helped me choose it :)
This is my favorite cover of yours EVER, man. My jaw is on the floor. Those cascading harmonies are to DIE for. LOVE!
Pure nostalgia! Pure art and beauty in the singing of a traditional song. Thank you.
Thank you for doing this song the honor it deserves. It is my most favorite song in all the world. If you could, you should do another video singing Scarborough Fair, in and around the ruins of Scarborough Castle, in Scarborough, England. That would be awesome ! Thank you again for honoring Scarborough Fair.
Don't forget I've already done Shenandoah and Poor Wayfaring Stranger, and you can hear those here: Shenandoah - Shenandoah - Peter Hollens (A cappella) - Proceeds Benefit Cerebral Palsy and Poor Wayfaring = Poor Wayfaring Stranger - Peter Hollens - Feat. Swingle Singers - A cappella Cover - Beatbox
all 3 are amazing and ussualy get played oft on my pc
Shenandoah is still my favorite folk song you did :) makes me cry every time I hear it
is The Hero of Canton from the show Firefly a folk song it would be amazing if you could do that one
You should really have a go at Auld Lang Syne! :)
What about, "The Parting Glass"?
O Danny boy. You could really really do that one!! My mother who is now an angel in heaven loved that song. The rest of the story makes me all teary eyed.
Super lovely and eerie!
Thanks guys! Love you!
Peter, a great big congratulations on all your songs....when I am really knackered, or when I am upset, I get onto RUclips and listen to your songs....they are all food for the soul....
STILL my all-time favorite. I've enjoyed many of Peter's songs, but this one just blew me away.
Peter Hollens - Still waiting for this folk album! ;) (Although I've downloaded all of your folk pieces and made my own playlist/disc(my car stereo is old...)!)
ALL the love for this one!
Wow, what a classic theme, it made it from the medieval ages and is still as great as it always was.
Scarborough Fair is one of my all time favourite songs.
Amazing vocals and beautiful black and white cinematography!
Applause Nakamura
Beautiful.
***** Applause to ***** !
Cameron Sarjeant ***** is amazingly talented!
Wonderful sound!
Mr Hollens that was beautiful. Both my grandmothers shared a live for that song. They would sing it to mrt as a child. Hearing this brought back a flood of memories of them. They are resting now in heaven. If they were here to have heard such a beautiful version as this they would have the same joyful tears I do. Thank you.
@PeterHollens your voice is amazing and I really appreciate you singing folk songs, this is one of my favorites.
The Wind That Shakes the Barley, or any of the other old Irish folk songs. Because they hold a deeper meaning of hope and courage and the sound would be perfect for your voice.
Bridge Over Troubled Water. Thank you Peter for sharing your talent with us!
Love, love, love your voice!! Daddy would sing Red River Valley, it was one of the songs I then sang to my children.
I LOVE folk songs. It is hard to find them done well. You have a beautiful voice. Thank you for using it to bring beauty into the world. One of my very favorite songs IS Shenandoah. This is one of many I'd vote for. It brings back warm wonderful childhood memories.
2 years late and a dollar short... I'm not exactly certain if this is folk, but green fields was always one of my favorites growing up. My grandfather would play it on the piano and I would sing along. Such good memories. Peter, I love what you are doing. Keep up the great work!
Peter, this was truly astounding. If it's not too late, would it be possible to do Loch Lomond? It is a great Scottish folk song, would suit your range beautifully, and would mean a lot to me if you did it. Thanks!
Loch Lomond would be an awesome song for him to do ***** you should give this one a shot!
That would be amazing
PLEASE ***** That would be amazing!!!!
I second this! Loch Lomond would be awesome!
Loch Lomond would be so awesome!
BTW, you have the most beautiful God-given voice I've EVER heard! I will keep a lookout for all your songs!
I'm sure this happened a while ago and I missed it, but your work has officially surpassed entertainment and become art.
This song gives me the chills every time.
This is my favorite song of all time. My Lord, is it fantastic
Hi Peter, I think you'd do a fantastic job with one of the most beautiful and haunting Irish folk songs ever....She Moved Through The Fair. I really like your Scarbourgh Fair it is one of my very, very favorites and gave you a thumbs up! Can not wait to hear the complete folk album your working on ...cheers!
Awesome ! Your head voice is incredibly strong and precise, and your harmonies are beautiful. Very pleasant to hear. Good job !
gives me chills, your voice is amazing!
Sometimes we truly forget the power of the Voice alone.
THE UNICORN SONG! The loveliest of them all was the unicorn! Mostly just because it is fun to sing & hear!
It is a joy to hear your singing! New to the family, but loving your art! Thank you for working so hard!
You should record Hushabye mountain from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Love that lullabye! It's not very long but you could make it amazing!
Melissa Sawatzky oh my gosh I’m in love with that song!!! I’ve never found anyone else who knows it!
I fully support this. Please sing Hushabye Mountain!!
Agree with Peter Gregg !! Another great song !!!
I like this song .....
Thanks youn chon
When I was young, my dad would occasionally get out his old acoustic guitar after dinner. The only song I remember him singing was "Oh my darling, Clementine." To this day, whenever I remember this song, I can still smell the musky scent (reminiscent of an old church) of the guitar case that he'd leave open in front of his feet, where I'd sit when he'd play.
Peter I've been following you for almost a year now, but I never felt the need to give a comment up until now. Don't get me wrong, I love all of your songs. But, this definitely tops all of them. Scarborough fair is one of my favorite songs. Thank you so much!
holy god this is too much. i almost cried, it's fantastic. i've known this songs for ages before re-listening again later. and this cover is just-- i can't.
I would love to hear you sing The Sound of Silence...or Mad World. Your voice has amazing range. I'm surprised at all the different types of songs you can sing. Most of the RUclipsrs I watch that do covers stick to a certain genre that they're comfortable with. I'm glad you try so many different ones!
NeverlandHunter how about that Disturbed covering the song?
Peter you are talented
Nice post
love this guy's voice
I also love great voices?
Nice video! Beautiful strong vocals. Love the lyrics & music.
WOW! Wonderful!
Walking in the Air has always been a favourite of mine. I'd like to see you do a cover of it.
Oh god, please please this. I'd cry tears of joy.
Yes yes yes Walking in the air ! Please !
+1. This would be fantastic.
I have just discovered Peter Hollens. How I didn't know him before? Where have I been hiding? Incredible!
My dad played this song a lot on the harp. I know it well. You've done an absolutely great job with it.
This is one of my favorite folk songs, and you absolutely killed it! Very awesome! :D I grew up on songs like this, as I grew up in medieval reenactment. It's awesome to hear talented people like you doing arrangements of these songs! I would love to hear you do the Lady of Shalott. I think you'd do amazing at it. Or greensleeves as someone else suggested! Like I said before, there's many folk songs (especially 15th and 16th century) that I grew up listening to.... If only I could remember the names of them! Lol!
I love what the low bass part does to the song in the bit that starts @ ca 00:40.
I very much agree with Danny Boy. And for a different suggestion, I'm not sure if it qualifies as a 'folk song' but a song that I personally love is Red is the Rose.
Peter Hollens I have just found about you by chance today and have spent the last 2 hours listening to your music. I have to say that your voice and how you assemble the songs is mesmerizing. I am a new huge fan now.
Simply one of the best vibrato's ever!
Carrickfergus. It's such a beautiful song.
I have always loved this song. Simon and Garfunkel's versions was my favorite but this was absolutely amazing! I think this is my favorite version now.
I know it might be a little late now, but here are some of my favs. This Land is Your Land, Tom Dooley, Sounds of Silence, Puff the Magic Dragon, Amazing Grace, House of the Rising Sun, Bridge over Troubled Water, Leaving on a Jet Plane and not sure if it is considered a folk song or not, but Candle on the Water from Pete's Dragon.
You made a classic song yours Peter! I noticed how you changed a couple notes here and there, and it sounded great! My all time favorite version of this song was sung by Simon and Garfunkel with Andy Williams. Keep up the great work Peter, and God bless!
I love the vocals. Wow am blown away. Great work done. More songs.
You should sing Caledonia. It was by far my favorite when I was younger
Your voice singing is amazing
lol just noticed how bad my grammar was, what the hell is "your voice singing"
equinox5991 the sound of peter hollens voice is so amazing it can make you forget everything :D

adam clauser bridge over troubled water would be amazing too
id love to hae him do a better place to be by harry chapin. its lenghty but my fav chapin song
you have the most amazing voice...I was in choir in school and we did Scarborough Fair thanks for the memories
So wonderful... i had been hoping you would do this someday. Perfect for the types of arrangements you do, and for your incredible range. My sons and I look forward to every new song you do. We are huge fans.
Cheers!
The Parting Glass
Greensleeves would be awesome.
You need to sing more songs like this!
His voice is so soothing. I listen to this and Shenandoah to relax/fall asleep.
this piece hits home---hard. i really enjoyed your arrangement. my mother sang it to my two youngest brothers, as i played the piano. when i grew up, i chose this piece as an en core. i was performing w/ the memphis symphony, as we were doing a large fund-raising ball. i used an obliggato soprano to shadow me, she went on to julliard and the met. my family asked me to sing it for my eldest brother's funeral, who died suddenly in his doctor's office, after suffering a massive coronary occlusion, while waiting to see the dr. mark thought his chest was hurting because he had bronchitis. his baby boy was born at 8:30 p.m. the night prior to his death. that was the last time i have sung it; however, i listen to sarah brightman's frequently.
now, for the folk song suggestion, i would go w/ peter, paul, and mary, "where have all the flowers gone." it seems so relevant to our times, especially the vs. concerning the young men who have gone to the grave yard. you could work a room w/ all that talent you have to offer, best wishes.
I think a nice addition would be Loch Lomond. The Jonathan Quick arrangement is particularly brilliant.
Peter!!! Please sing "Wild Mountain Thyme." Your voice would go perfectly with that song!
+Stephanie Cook Oh yes! I'd forgotten that one.
Omg... I heard Emerald Rose's version of that song... can't wait to hear Peter's!
Can you do "Bridge Over Troubled Water"?? :)
The one song my mother and grandmother sang to me as a child, every night as I would be going to bed and they tucked me in, was Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral. (an Irish lullaby) ... and I know i'd love to hear it from such an amazing singer as you.
"Scarborough Fair" is my all-time favorite song. Thank you for this beautiful rendering.
Over the hills and far away next!
Would love to hear "Caledonia"!
"The Boxer" would be awesome
I had to sing this in my middle school choir. That wasnearly six years ago and I can still recal all the words. I love this, you sing it so well! You truely do the song justice!!
I love when you sing folk songs, you're voice is more suited for it. I wish I could sing like you.
Vocal Royalty! Your vocal control is absolutely amazing!! I have listened to several of our videos and MUST subscribe! Do you have a desire to do Broadway? The tones in your voice remind me of Josh Groban. I love this! Thank you
Lovely new song & video ***** ! Oooo, you'll be releasing a folk song album! I really enjoy Loch Lomond. I've actually been singing it in the shower lately, haha. Maybe that'd work for your final cover?
Well done.
It's a beautiful song and a great performance.
I'll add in Loch Lomond for you then Billy Wilson Probably will do a few more so keep all the ideas coming!
***** Oh! Oh! Another great one that Canadians in my area ADORE is "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. I live right beside Lake Superior.
Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears I think would be a great song.
love peter hollins
Yes he is awesome
He is awesome! Have you guys seen piano guys?
Carter Smith Yep they are awesome as well
Truly talented; a rare find in the internet these days.
Pure listening pleasure! Love the arrangement, love the performance. There's good energy that keeps things moving forward, but also a degree of delicacy that doesn't overpower the lyrics or harmonies. This is more of my kind of listening from Peter Hollens, and I'm totally looking forward to the coming folk song album! Consider another vote for "Parting Glass"...
my favourite folk song is greensleaves I would love to see you singing this song the song of my childhood
I'll look into that :)
Thanks you will be my hero. more than you are now.
Hearing you cover Home on the Range or maybe a sea shanty would be wonderful.
You should do "Greenslevese" !! Good job btw ;)
LordLeonard he already did i believe
Mr. Hollens, this is possibly my favourite song, and your rendition of it moved me to tears. It's just beautiful!
The Parting Glass, Caledonia, O'Danny boy, Spanish Lady...there are so many folk songs. I remember my friends look at my playlist seeing folk music not knowing the tittles thinking it is classical music. But folk music tells a story in a relaxing-emotional tone that you can hear the story. Can't wait for the album!
