Peter Carr needs to honestly address the more important issue of an oversupply of PhD graduates in the sciences. He needs to examine, then present on youtube, results from the National Science Foundation's Survey of Doctorate Recipients in reference to underemployment of PhD recipients in science and engineering fields, meaning they were working in jobs that did not require their doctoral degree.
Dear Sir, please make some videos on how to search different databases like PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect etc. to find research papers relevant with my research work. Because we know that a prerequisite for success in research is to have good knowledge on the the research work already done. Even, in order to generate new ideas, one has to develop the habit of reading research papers. But due to not knowing to search research papers using right keywords and also in the right way, we often cannot provide many important citations. We also cannot cite many research papers that have a valid argument for our work. This is one of the reasons for the return of research papers from expected journals. Also when we write reviews, we need to download all the papers of a particular job. Many of us cannot collect all the papers due to not knowing the search technique properly. Sometimes, when we come up with a new research idea, we need to look for the databases to see whether there are already published articles based on this new idea or not. Now if we do not know how to search a database efficiently then during publishing our new and novel work in a journal, it is considered an old or repetitive work. So my earnest request to you is to make a few video lectures realizing the importance of the above topics. I believe that this will benefit all the research loving students.
These videos are great and thank you for your hard work, however, I do have one critique and that is to do with the poor audio. Whomever produces these videos clearly puts in some effort into post editing, so please do the same for the audio. Ask the university to commit to buying a few different mics; a voice recorder; which will give a much richer and wider EQ to edit, which will dramatically improve the overall viewing experience. That aside I've already subscribed and good luck in the future.
