I couldn't agree with Sejeong more, yes it was harsh but it was the true. Now......WHY 3/4 OF THE CAST ARE MINORS??????? WHY THERE'S A 11-12 YEAR OLD??????????????????????
Short answer perves, power, profits, and professional longevity. The entertainment industry is often run by old perverts that want to drool over young people. From there we also have the fact that often younger people are more likely to jump when they say to. Companies understand to get people young means less fighting, less questioning and they can 'meld' them into what they want. Next two go hand in hand. These companies want idols on the market for as long as possible. So to debut a 14 yr old means they can be a daughter for the next 10 th 15 years. Which means more money for them backing the idol, and more return on their investment. And the reason this isn't going the change is that Korea is lacking the laws around this like other places. And from what I've seen, could be wrong, many kneitzens still support these groups with their $.
Man, this is so true, I feel guilty and inappropriate watching this show. The ones that they highlight, mostly also the underage. 16 should be the very minimum
kpop is so obsessed with young girls and when they reach 21 theyre deemed too “old” to be trainees which is weird, so they sow them at these ages to train for a few yrs and still be fresh young girls ripe for debut. i dont support this but i noticed this in kpop
That's literally why I refuse to watch the show, I can't watch children on a kpop show, they are not being protected or cared for by the media, it's giving being used for views from a certain audience
i think we need more brutally honest judges like sejeong. popular survival shows like the planet series (girls planet 999, boys planet), iland series and even runext, needs more judges like sejeong. after watching the entire cut for myself, i can't help but understand where she's coming from. yea it does come from as "rude" from first glance but she's very experience idol whose been with the industry pretty long. it makes sense since hiding lack of skills will benefit the whole group stage performance in the long run. even if you do have a crazy amount of talent, it could easily be overshadowed by other idols with more popularity.
But tbf, girl planet 999 didn't have any "I got my spot because I'm pretty" like produce 48. The main vocalist is one of the best in the show. Almost all of the top dancers on the show made it.
Boys Planet and Girls Planet did not have a true visual dozen who got in just because of looks. Gyuvin is maybe the closest, but he is still a good dancer. That white girl that is Hueningkai’s sister is more nepotism. But besides that is only two people. So don’t think Girls Planet 999 and Boys Planet had a weak lineup as Kep1er has solid dance line and ZeroBaseOne has better vocals them most of 4th and 5th gen.
She honest about that. But, as the show goes by. Why she and the other judge end up eliminating all talented trainee and the remaining end up minor or, the teammate way more talented than the saved one.
@@light_bit I think corruption in Universe Ticket lies more in the voting system and the way the girls are represented than anything else. Runext is prob the only survival show I know of where the judges have a majority say in the final lineup.
Funny enough I was just thinking about when Pinky was a teacher on a survival show and how she held NOTHING BACK. I was also thinking if she had been an adviser on PD 48 or this there would be so much crying. This push for everyone to be an Ace has hurt so many. I totally agree with Sejeong. Show where you shine, especially for 1st impressions and work on the rest as you grow.
Yea, we need judges like that to give them a good sense of honesty. Haven't considered the fact of many idols being pushed to be aces though but I see what you mean
she simply stated the fact that talent alone is not enough. That's why I don't know why she's under fire. She's experienced it first-hand. PD101 was popular and so was I.O.I. Gugudan instead was rather invisible to the public. Now that we know that this show was just as rigged as PD48 etc, it's just a matter of presenting a concept. Who is ultimately in the group is secondary from a talent point of view, the main thing is that you fit the concept. On the other hand, perhaps she should have handled it like Soyeon during MTG. She didn't get any backlash for that bc everyone knows she was right. However, 11-12 y old? Sorry, I'm not interested.
I mean Sejeong made the comments to established idols and so that's where most of the backlash came from. It wasn't necessarily her comments being wrong but the fact that the fans know the two are actually pretty good in their respective ways but this performance may not have displayed it well.
i think the comments are perfectly valid and fair. and it applies to everything in life, you play to your strengths, not your weaknesses. being an ace is amazing and for sure there are aces out there, but not everyone is gonna be one. it's important to keep working on skills, so you improve, obviously, but when it comes to going on stage, you can't bring the group down and you have to use your strenghts to your advantage. if you're an incredible singer and a mid dancer, you can try to focus on your voice, if the song allows it, and if it doesn't maybe work on facials, so that you're still an asset to your group. as i said, work behind the scenes, so you don't stagnate, but making sure your flaws aren't the thing people notice first is absolutely necessary in an industry as competitive as kpop. if i look at an idol and the first thing i see is that they're a bad dancer or a bad singer, then that's a sign that they're not using the skills they do have correctly. and there's that star quality that's also essential if you wanna stand out in kpop. idols like some twice members, for example, aren't the most talented in the industry (i love twice, i'm just being realistic), but they stand out with their chemistry, their variety show skills and their visuals. idols are more than singers and dancers, they're performers, influencers and entertainers. you have to make people want to keep looking at you, and some people just can't do that. talent alone isn't enough in this industry, and if you're lacking the capacity to use your strengths correctly, you have even less of a chance of making it.
Yea, idol skills really transcend to other traits and qualities and so as long as you can kinda "hide" the flaws, you can still find a way to thrive. That's kinda why we see the strictness of kpop. Like one person messing up can be a sorethumb to the group and "ruin" their image.
Yea, she's the also the perfect example of having a spectrum of popularity within the different affiliations she has had within her idol career despite possessing the same talent. So she does have a point
The performances she commented on was amongst the weakest on the show which was disappointing seeing as everyone knew both girls had already debuted. Sejeong simply said that the title of "already an idol" was pretty meaningless since none of that experience showed. And that even if you are in a group and are the weakest, you need to be able to hide your flaws. For example in gugudan, they had a large vocal line who were amazing as acapella, and some members who weren't as strong, they therefor did easier voices, percussion and rap when they did acapella together. But Gugudan were massively talented, but yes, did not succeed as much as they should've. So Sejeong knows how to hide flaws and she also knows that talent alone doesn't always bring success. Her comments were more than fair, especially because of her long and varied idol life
Yea, I mean even her comment has layers to it like with gugudan. They could still hide any lack of skill and yet it didn't translate into success for them. This whole discussion is like one piece of the many to what can make a group successful
I love KPOP after finding it in 2023. My favorite two groups are 2NE1 and SNSD. Both have different styles which fit their skills and talents. However, both have high energy and great stage presence. It also appears that they are all comfortable with each other.
@@cloudchungxiao Yes group synergy is a good description. They work together making the group successful. I know most about 2NE1 and the group is greater than the sum of its parts. The members roles vary by on stage and behind the scenes. They support and encourage one another. This creates that undescribable "it" for the group.
There are many talented people in the world. But skill alone can only get you so far. You need basic talent at least , but you really need charisma or to be likable. Even Sejeong; yes, she is really skilled vocalist, but people REALLY liked her because of her personality. She was very chill and lovable which is what really solidified peoples votes for her. And when it comes to the Sohee/Hyewon effect, people do love underdogs that try hard. It appeals to their compassion. Man, so many things wrong with this show. By the way, this is the first time that I watch this kind of show, so I have zero preference. First, the cast that mostly underage, very inappropriate honestly. Second, isn't the concept supposed to be a GLOBAL girl group, yet they use full blown Korean language and songs despite the contestant are International 😂😂. Third, why bother casting 82 people if you just going to get rid half of them in the first week and most of the people that got rid off, not only they are visually attractive but also have an actual skills, I still can't get over that yukino got rid so early despite she is pretty much an overall package, at the very least above average, her stress and overthinking doesn't show while she was on stage, unlike others that are very apparent 😂
This show will be the final nail to the coffin with International fans to support these type of stuff and strictly only for domestic market. They are only using those buzz words to get more views lol
@markigirl2757 plus I think that Koreans think of themselves very highly to label the concept of this show (or anything similar) as a GLOBAL thing because I do think that this show isn't popular enough to be labeled as global
It's a survival show to create a global K-pop girl group so it is a given to have them sing only K-pop songs as they will be part of a K-pop girl group. On your other points, i do fully agree with them.
i keep hearing this "perfectionist" argument regarding kpop and it just doesnt add up to me at all. How can you say that kpop standards expect perfection when so many groups are mediocre to average?, on top of that, the number of groups that actually sing fully live can be counted in one hand. If everyone was training so hard because they want to reach perfection you'd think that there would be so many groups that would sing amazingly well due to constant practice for perfection, but thats not even remotely true. The real reason is that looks and visuals are prioritized above everything else, so even if the girl has no talent for singing or dancing, she'll be put in the group because she looks good. That is the bottom line.
I think it's the facade of perfectionism that contradicts and makes kpop so weird. Like the kpop standards can be seen as pretty medicore and average but they use backing track, live ar to give the illusion of authenticity or perfectionism. Becoming a fan of a Kpop does result from many things and does not just mean skills, which is why skills don't matter completely. However, there is still an average level of skills plus something else like charisma, or the it factor (which is subjective) that needs to be brought to maintain the cohesion of a group while also standing out.
Well that's reality for you, the greatest skill you will need in kpop is not vocals, dance or rap its the ability to attract and keep fans and for better or worse visuals is greatest factor in that. Look how is the group that soyeon was a judge for, mid at best almost a nugu. Every top group have atleast 1 top tier visual in the group even g-idle have that.
Idk, if she wanted visuals based on those comments. It's more like there is room for visuals because as long as they aren't too noticeable with having lacking skills, then they'll do fine. But yea, the kpop realities really isn't just solely skill based.
I am sorry sejeong herself has her music career in the dungeons she had to rely in acting to get relevancy and she herself was in a group of 12 people where most people sang barely for 10 seconds, most big ggs have members literally there for NOTHING and are called visuals which are also quite mediocre for example Jisoo .. she cant sing live she cant dance well at allll like have you seen her?? Every performance has high back track you can barely hear her and her visuals are not extraordinary .... why is she even an idol? Her own solo song is so pathetic where shes not even singing ... how she gets dragged for her acting as well BY korean gp.. so if she can debut the ones she sejeong is criticizing are far better specially Chaewon she can sing she performs well she's pretty she can control stage but sejeong thinks she wasnt doing great be serious a gazillion other female idols have nothing to bring but are still somehow part of big group
Yes, I agree there are idols out who do not have that much skills like Jisoo and other idols. But Jisoo was not on stage. It was this women. And she was there to get judged and if her performace was bad, the judge call it out. It would not make sense, if the judges go "well you had flaws in your performace and overall it was not good, but you know there are people out here who are far worser then you. So, yeah, it is okay. No need to work on your skills. You are one of the worst but not the worst. So keep that up and don't change a thing." That is what judges do.

@@markigirl2757 fr just like RUNext using the Thai contestants for clout
@markigirl2757 plus I think that Koreans think of themselves very highly to label the concept of this show (or anything similar) as a GLOBAL thing because I do think that this show isn't popular enough to be labeled as global
It's a survival show to create a global K-pop girl group so it is a given to have them sing only K-pop songs as they will be part of a K-pop girl group. On your other points, i do fully agree with them.
I'm pretty sure for the global gg thing, they meant this show was to make a kpop group out of global members
I thought it was ningning on the thumbnail
Hahaha, which one?
i keep hearing this "perfectionist" argument regarding kpop and it just doesnt add up to me at all.
Sejeong wnant visuals in a girl group bcs of reality but if it was soyeon, she wants skills than visuals, fuck kpop reality
Universe ticket will fail
Based on the latest episode?
So keep that up and don't change a thing."
That is what judges do.
@@lucycarlay8547 I understand but my point is Chaewon was still better than many dozen gg members, sejeond words were not doing justice when this is a norm in ggs to have dozens, when chaewon still is better i think she was criticized a little too harshly.
@@hafshss but that still does not make sense.
Yes, they are far worser idols out there, but do they matter in this sitiation? Absolutly no.
It is about her and not xyz from xyz group.
That is why your complain does not make any sense.
It is the same when you get critisim for your school work or whatever.
Are they people out there who are worser then you? Yes, do they also matter? No, it is about you.
