Hello, a reminder that I check these out blind and have no idea what's a correct phase / M / interlink whatever lol.
I'm just checking out the music, so focusing on the context I don't have is unnecessary and doesn't change my opinion on listening to something.
People send me what they send me, I can't possibly know every submission and it's history.
    Stay dapper.

I think the main reason people are mentioning it this time is that the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 OST right now is kind of a mess lol. Some of the battle themes change dynamically during battle so you got a lot of videos that are like, half of the song in a way. Just strictly OST speaking, the M versions of the Moebius song are meant to be listened together, apart from the rest of the Moebius battle songs. The actual OST doesn't come out until the end of July so until then trying to listen to some of the battle songs can tricky. What happened here is sort of like, listening to the first half of an arranged version of a song, then skipping to the OST version of it to listen to the second half lol. Some videos combine different parts to make it feel more complete but it's up to interpretation until the official OST releases.
Of course, your videos rock either way and it's probably more interesting to hear your take with the parts mixed up lol. Definitely a unique way to experience it!

Well if you ever get around to playing 3 just remember that Flute version of the OST is simultaneously the biggest and most subtle foreshadowing for the emotional avalanche the game's going to spend the next hour and a half riding you through like some kind of unwitting meat taboggan.

As some of the other comments have noted, the Phase 1 you first listened to was from the "Moebius M Battle" suite, since it's a specific variant of the normal Moebius Battle theme that appears throughout the game. This one definitely hits harder in-game when it appears as you're playing, because NOTHING prepares you for the flute addition after hearing the normal Moebius battle theme at least 5 to 10 times by this point (possibly more, depending on how many sidequests you do before this battle occurs). As it stands, hearing it outside of the game without the context of the original song lessens some of the impact, because otherwise it seems like the flute is just unnaturally overwhelming.
The Phase 2 you listened to was actually from the base Moebius Battle suite, so you got a bit of a mix-up there, lol.

You got to hear “M”’s version for Phase one, and “Normal” for Phase 2.
Phase 2 had 3 variants of “Climax”; “Action”, “Sad” and “M”, which you didn’t get to listen to unfortunately. The “Climax” versions play when you bring the boss down to a certain health threshold.

As a lot of other commenters have said, the particular version of Phase 1 you were given was a story-related version of the track, but the regular version, which doesn't have the flutes, and the Phase 2, are played in the FIRST BOSS FIGHT IN THE ENTIRE GAME

  • @elizabethagudelo7179

one thing that's worth pointing out because of the hard cuts is that despite the game being being almost 1 year old by now, an original soundtrack of any sort of is only set to be released in 3 months
So any version of the songs you hear is people who went into the game files, decrypted, decompressed and mixed the music themselves, which in the case of dynamic songs like this also includes splicing the different parts in a way that makes sense as an audio only experience

I'm pretty sure that the reason for the strange cuts between each part of the song is because of the game's emphasis on dynamic music, where the music is segmented into pieces and then it had to be puck back together to form a OST track. I am really curious what the music will sound like on the official soundtrack.

The cuts/pauses between parts thing is just a byproduct of it being a game rip and the songs being a dynamic music which reacts to whatever is going on during the fight. The uploader didn't bother to stitch them together properly, those songs are seamless when you listen to them in game.

People made a lot of fun of the villains in 3 being called Moebius due to memes involving a certain terrible movie. Less said about that the better.
A nice touch with many boss themes featured in 3 is that a “Climax” version plays when the boss is dropped to critical health. Unfortunately, in many cases people don’t actually get to hear them because a staple mechanic called Chain Attack has a track that overwrites almost every battle theme. So you often end up overshooting and killing the boss before the Climax section plays.
Aside from the original Moebius boss theme, there is also an “Interlink” version that plays for specific encounters and the “M” versions of both with a heavier flute emphasis that only plays for the fight with the character of the same name.

Something nobody on comments have said yet, is that probably the "new sounds" from the flute you heard are because the game have their own customized hand-made flutes, 2 of them, the one you heard on the 1st song is the more high one, the White Agnus Flute; two of the protagonist have their own flutes, the woman uses the White Agnus one, and the man uses the Black Kevesi one with a lower sound.

This has a very tribal feel, like if you are fighting something super primal. The guitars sound great, the flute gives the song uniqueness for sure. The buildup it had was well done, lots of great intensity and hype all throughout. I like this one, quite the banger.
The second one, the start reminds me of Duel of the Fates. The guitar riffs here sound great, the choir works well with making the song sound like the final boss. This makes me think the end is coming, fun chords throughout. I like this one as well, although my head is kind of empty due to being tired so I won't be able to say a ton.

To those who don't know: Flutes play a major part in the xc3 OST
    Non-spoiler explanation:
In the war, both sides need to send off their dead, and they use flutes to do it. Flutes are small and compact, which makes them perfect for a battlefield.
Thus, off-seers are parts of the battle, special unites that carry flutes and play tunes to "send-off" the deceased.
As an added bonus, the flutes you hear in the soundtrack are the actual flutes in the game! They made the flutes if the game in real life to get a more authentic sound!

I feel like the mix of emotions in the game might explain the confusion. I don't even know how much context to give because you'll likely play this someday. But these are child soldiers who only knew servitude. Now they're fighting against their former allies and people they thought of as guardians.

Theres even more versions of these, Moebius is not one boss there is many of them and youll fight quite a few throughout the games story they are the big bosses that cap of certain storybeats etc (kind of a callback to the faced mechon in xbc1)

Fun little detail about both themes, Phase 1 is more chaotic because Moebius aren't taking the party as a serious threat, as evidenced by the segments in Phase 1 that sound like laughter, which is mixed in a way to travel around your ears in a möbius strip pattern. In Phase 2 the laughing segments are gone because Moebius is basically like "Ok, no more fun and games"

Too bad the song always gets interrupted by the chain attack theme in game so the chaotic-ness of it all doesn't even sink in.
Fun fact about the flutes, tho. They are flutes specifically created for this soundtrack, giving them a unique sound. I recommend "A Life Sent On" for the whole experience of the flutes.

Some of the other comments mention it, but from what I understand a lot of the combat music in xenoblade 3 is actually cut up into a bunch of different segments so that the music can transition to different parts based on how the battles are progressing. It actually took me a long time to realize that was what was going on and it wasn't just the song coincidentally lining up with the situation lol.
Anyways, the music being in pieces means that anyone trying to upload them has to manually stitch them together, and it seems like the one used in this video didn't do a very good job mixing it together so it sounded right.

A shame they sent you the M version for the first Moebius battle theme because that makes it more confusing to see what the songs are trying to do. Moebius are the bad guys in the game controlling two sides of a war. They think very little of the people fighting the war and use them as pawns for amusement.
The first theme is supposed to represent the sense of danger from Meobius. The way the vocals sound, it gives off the impression of a bunch of posh audience members laughing as they watch gladiators killing each other for sport, which is basically what they do in this game.
The second boss theme though, it doesn't sound laughing anymore. Now that the main cast is showing their strength and their ability to fight back, Moebius has to take them seriously. At many points in the second song it sounds like the vocals are fading, as if the power they hold over everyone else is fading.
Absolute genius storytelling through music, something Xenoblade 3 is a master at.
