Good explanation of your gearbox. I understand the bearings and why minimal oil when properly directed through the gears is more efficient and produces less heat. I have watched your motor and gearbox combinations as they developed over the years and I really like what you have now. Good video and I really like that I have had a chance to see the inner working of your gearbox.

Thank you. We are also very confident in the 3 gear drives we now have for the 3 engine sizes.

I will certainly be using a Viking setup in my 701 when the time comes! You are doing great things!

The rubber "cushioning" component on the flywheel, known as a "giubo" in German car driveline technology is designed to take significant torque in either direction. On my BMW 3 series from 2003 (in my case supercharged up to 295 ft/lbs and 340hp), it tends to last 80-100k miles under relatively normal operations in a stick shift or automatic car. Mine is only starting to begin to crack at 100k miles. Some BMW owners that drive their cars hard - track days - may get a slightly shorter life out of them, but it's still a robust, long-lived piece. And you'd see cracking on the annual inspection to know that it needs to soon be replaced. I've seen pictures where they were totally trashed and spewing nylon fibers but they still worked ok. I'd replace at first signs of cracking rubber on an aircraft engine application, as I'm sure most would, but they do tend to hold up a good bit beyond the initial cracking.

...its creator. Italian artist invented it, engineer, airship captain, and inventor Antonio Boschi to solve the issue of rear-wheel-drive cars. He later went on to fund a company called GIUBO Sp. A, which was the leading producer of flex discs for a good while. The name of the company comes from the Italian word for joint “Giuntio” and Antonio’s last name, “Boschi.”
Boschi went on to license his design to various manufactures who carried on the production. Despite decades passing since Boschi first came up with the design, we haven’t found a better way to connect input and output shafts.

The tool box/workbench/podium Jan is speaking behind is the Home Depot toolbox that My wife Penny uses as her mobile island/storage drawer cabinet in our kitchen. It’s like he’s working in our house.

The only reason I can understand why an airplane should be hand propped is because it doesn't have an electrical system and a starter like a J-3 Cub. Why would anyone want to fly an airplane with a dead battery I would rather figure out why it's dead if it's just been because of sitting around then put a battery charger on it.
