A fellow magi performed this for Eric Jones and I several weeks ago. It really is a "hidden gem". I instantly recognized it from Tarbell's and sourced the proper pencils from the online store with a river name. $35.00 seems extremely steep as I got 50 pencils for around $10.00. This is one of those tricks that proves that the hidden gems are between the pages of magic books. The more you read, the more you'll know.
magic books are amazing and the best investment
This is an incredible peace of magic! Still waiting for the perfect moment to preform it! I found when practicing, that you can get a pack of small wooden craft sticks.Which if you don’t want to carry around the pencil has the same effect, and will fit in your pocket without taking up space. And in a way is more natural. Just an idea!
Good luck
Thanks for the review. I have been interested in your more detailed thoughts since you spoke about it in the members section.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi David, thank you for beginning my week with a new review. It was thorough, thoughtful, candid, informative and enjoyable! Thanks for all you do! Your friend, David
My pleasure!
Thanks for the review! I've been wanting to learn this since I saw it on Chris Ramsey's channel.
No problem!
A very wonderful and special review David ❤😊🤟👏👏👍😊💛
Glad you enjoyed it
Off topic, to be sure, but wow, you do a great imitation of a heartbeat!
practice
Just because I feel it's necessary, I want to throw in some extra information that I have because I bought this trick.
It does not need to be this pencil at all. It's simply that the pencil has certain qualities that make doing the trick possible.
However, not only can you buy other pencils that have the same quality from any art store like it said in this video, it doesn't even need to be a pencil.
Cheap disposable chopsticks work perfectly. Even regular pencils can be handled in a way that you can still do the trick with them. In the video itself, he does it with just his own finger and no extra item of any kind, and also does it using a vape.
There are tons of objects you can do this with that you can find all over the place in the wild.
THANKS !!!
Absolutely love this! Once I saw the trailer I sat trying to figure out what was happening.
Once I gave up I bought the trick early, and saw I was satisfyingly close 😂
After watching the video I went straight out the next day and bought the bits, couldn't wait for the delivery.
Takes a bit of practice alright but once you get it you'll know. Brilliant piece.
nice !!! thanks for the comment !!!
I hesitantly purchased this... I have most of the heartbeat tricks on the market. Including the ones that stop your pulse. I wasn't sure that this would fool people, but it actually does. As usual, I go to David's review and see what his thoughts are. And when he said should I purchase this well that depends on you. I wasn't sure if he believed in the trick or not. Then I went to Michael Murray's website and he had it listed. So I know it had to be good. Still after learning it, I thought it was a pipe dream.
But it actually has fooled people. I've never once been called out on it and even when I let people examine the pencil.
happy it worked out for you
keep the heart ❤️ beating
Thanks David 👍👍
♥
Thanks for another great review, this does get good reactions, cheers
Glad you enjoyed it
I bought this the other week. I love it. It leaves so much room for the performance and connection with your spectators. That's the main thing here, the connection.
Great to hear!
@magicorthodoxy I practice on my fiancée all the time. When a trick is REALLY GOOD, and shes stumped, she tells me that she doesn't want to know the secret. This is one of them!
Can u please tell me bro i don't jave money to buy this please 😢
I figured it out how it works but I still may have to buy it just for the performance because Ellusionist has great vidoes on performance. I really enjoy Magic Stream as well, there's a ton of greate content there and has inspired me to create new variations on the tricks that are performed. Great source for ideas and variations.
😊👍
Thank you, very clear!
Glad it was helpful!
I know this trick. Very clever! Great review David and I love your jokes 😅
Thanks! 😀
@@magicorthodoxy Your welcome! ✨🎩
Just ordered this, glad to know it’s not just a downloadable skill…. It was just too unique for me not to pick up, stands out from a lot of stuff right now.
hope you like it
Another great review!
Glad you liked it!
I’d buy several more, maybe different colors if available, and precede it with an effect involving drawing or writing. Let the spectator pick their own pencil to draw or write something and then move in Heartbeat.
good idea
I just bought this...can't wait to see what it's all about.
hope you like it
Obrigado David 🤙🤙
😎
Amazing review amazing trick
Thanks 🤗
Definitely masterpiece
😊👍
Thanks❤❤❤
You're welcome 😊
Before I watch the video, I know one of the people (mildly but I still kinda know her) from one of the performance videos that was posted before release, and she said the effect was so Insanely mild that she wasn’t even sure if she was actually feeling anything at all, that being said I’ve not felt it myself but spectator reviews are definitely a big thing when it comes to a trick like this
for certain !!
Another magic reviewer made an excellent point about this effect: it’s a shame that there’s no practical way for a magician to experience this (as a spectator) firsthand before learning the method. 🙁
you could from another magician
This seems like the kind of trick that is almost entirely reliant on the story you build around it rather than the effect itself
21st like and 6th comment. As an healthcare professional I cannot avoid to see something called heartbeat😂. Thanks for your awesome review!
You rock!
I was out of town, just got back into town and VERY underwhelmed when I opened the box, I was like can you at least hook a brother up with an extra pencil and maybe one that is pre-sharpened?…. At least now I know refills are dirt cheap. I was hoping for something far more gimmicky…. As I am just a hobbyist. Still very cool, but the power is definitely in this dude‘s performance.
I hear ya
My two cents: my only issue with this is the price, which is a bit too steep considering what you receive and the fact that it's not a new effect, just a better explanation for something that was published years ago. It wouldn't be so hard to justify if it at least came with a bunch of pencil, you only get one.
2 would have been nice, it's true
Interesting. Thanks for your efforts.
My pleasure!
Once i knew what it was. I was also able to make my own
nice
Hi, I purchased it, but there is no QR code, how can I understand how it works? I don't know how to see the tutorial!! I don't understand how I should use this pencil!!
if you bought it from Ellusionist - the download should be in your account
@@magicorthodoxy I found the tutorial, I wanted to ask 2 things because I didn't understand in the video, obviously without saying anything about the secret, can other pencils also be used? They don't have to be this long but also shorter? Is it important to make the tip or can it also be used How does it come out of the package?
Can we able to do It with normal pencil ???
Not reccomend
I brought it but I’m confused do I have to sharpen it
all that is answered in the tutorial
I don’t know. It sounds (no pun intended) kinda creepy. I think I remember a Tarbell trick but I don’t remember it being a pencil (but that was a long time ago).
I am thinking how and with who I would “try” this on. I’ll bring it up with my OFM Group.
It's in Tarbell 4 and it's called Ralph Reed's tapping pencil on page 259
For the tech minded among us, it worked for me with an Apple Pencil.
nice !!!
ALWAYS great reviews David. However, "Heartbeat" just seems very "uninspiring" to me. Creating an "emotional bond" with my spectator using my heartbeat seems more like a trip to the doctor rather then a "miracle". I'm glad that other people are happy with their purchase but just not for me. Thanks for saving me $35 so I can spend it on a real miracle.
okee dokee
The whole idea is very promising.But...It's this kind of effect that everybody will think that it has to do with the pencil, and they will be right...
well ... the pencil AND the performer
@@magicorthodoxy The only way i can see this effect work is having the pencil to be somewhere and ask someone to bring you a pencil or something like that.
I never understood the heat Juan got from this. He didn't deserve it. Taking an old principle and building a new presentation from it is as old as magic itself. Not everything has to be completely original.
MOST everything is NOT completely original “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants” Isaac Newton
A great review as always. Just one thing:

"...no angles..."
Sorry David, at the beginning of the video Juan says, that it is best to put put the one spectator to the right side of you. If he would be on the left side, he could eventually see the secret.
They SHOULD be so focused on their hand they're not looking at yours
