    Remember, since Salamander was released in both Japan and Europe regions, in MAME they're labeled as:
    Salamander (Version D): is the European Version
    Salamander (Version J): is the Japanese Version

    One of my favorite games when I was kid back in the 1970-1980s with a nice soundtrack too. I think that famous Japanese female sound composer who made the 2D Castlevania series so bearable after grinding hour after hour... Wow! Her real name escapes my mind, but I will call her M.Y. for now, well she got her start with Konamin here and later on with that crazy parody Twin Bee game series. This would be an excellent game to add to my vintage arcade Man Cave/Ice Man if I could ever find an working cabinet in fair condition.

    Jesus this guy is crazy good - I was watching, thinking 'ooh, he took a risk there' until I realized he was intentionally flying past and through dangerous stuff, just for the skill of it.

      Spoken like a loser who has never achieved high mastery of a game without cheating. I completed this game in the arcade in a similar manner to this. In fact, there is one part where this player doesn't seem to know of the trick to defeat the enemy ships that drop golden rods (at 13:46) where you simply fly up to the top of the screen leaving the multiples trailing behind in a line. The enemy tries to get as close to your ship as it can and since this is directly below your ship, the enemy is lined up with the trailing multiples and is quickly destroyed. Here, the player risks death by remaining below the enemy where they have to dodge the golden rods.
      Everything seen in this video is possible without any cheats. @@cps1247

    That game can be played on the Salamander Portable on PSP and Arcade Classic Anniversary Collection for the PS4 for some Gradius Games

      There are both games. Both exist as arcade games they arent really the same thing.

      @@MrZedrik3000на NES отличий нет но оригинальная аркада ЖИЗНЕННАЯ СИЛА отличалась от Саламандра. В саламандре там было что то связано со спасением планеты Латис и второй игрок мог играть принцом этой планеты «Лорд Британец» и там нужно было уничтожить Зелос Форс. В ЖС сюжет вообще другой, по сюжету игры в космосе появляется неизвестный организм под именем Жизненная Сила который заражен бактерией и поглощает её изнутри и если её не остановить то она поглатит всю галактику. Цель героев(Вик Вайпер и Красный Самолет(Проблемы с авторскими правами)) войти внутрь этой сущности и уничтожить внутри саму бактерию. Ну и ещё Ripple переименовали в Pulse(хотя это вроде бы как синонимы), Speed Up на Hyper Speed и Силовое Поле на Щит.

    Learning to defeat this game in the arcade was murder. There are many times when threats are sprung on the player without any chance of knowing how to avoid them. Many times I had to play through for 10 minutes or more just to reach the part where I always got killed, hoping to get see what it was that killed me or how to avoid it. Level 6 is especially difficult as it's so hard to see what is deadly and what is harmless. For example, at 13:15, those pink things that shoot up from the surface of the planet - are they safe to fly through or are they deadly? I still don't know to this day because I never risked wasting a life to find out. Then the enemy starts firing silver square shapes at you that are the same colour and about the same size as your own missiles so they are very difficult to see. Later on still (at 14:26) and the metal panels start flying off the ground, it gets so hectic! Even just flying forwards feels dangerous e.g. at 13:44, when the music changes dramatically, the ground design and colour changes and it looks like there might be a tunnel or a metal bar across the screen. When you see this for the first time and the scrolling screen forces your ship towards it, you have to guess whether you can fly over it safely or not. The game introduces threats on a different dimension i.e. your own missiles travel outwards on a flat, 2-D plane, *and* drop downwards in 3-D as various threats come at you from this extra plane of danger. Notice at 14: 24 the ship has to fly under the landscape i.e. through a tunnel. This tells the player that they have entered a new dimension of danger and it is *really* difficult to visually keep track of what the heck is happening. Usually players get shot dead. The best or most persistent ones get through with a pounding heart - and that is why this game was so awesome.

      I think they are two very different games. Arcade version of Salamander is broken in so many ways, but is very intense. Nes version was more balanced, but less intense in my opinion (and in Nes version you won't ever have 4 options). Both versions are great though.

      In Shoot-em-ups, each play thru from start to finish is considered a “loop”. As you complete more “loops”, the game gets harder each time.
      In the case of the Gradius series, completing more loops will make enemies shoot faster with those shots traveling faster, and enemies will have a chance of shooting “martyr bullets” after they are destroyed. This also applies to bosses.
      Some stages may also have altered elements, particularly in this game’s Stage 1 on the 2nd loop.
