    In this throw away world it’s fantastic to see parts repaired, much more satisfying than just fitting new . Is the time repairing worth it , probably not . Is the sense of pride repairing worth it , 100% worth it. Well done .

    Nice fix, I've scraped those carbon contacts across a clean sheet of paper beforehand to refinish the surface. It usually works well👍🏻

    why the heck should we have to dismount the whole panel to remove what could be a simple clip-in switch? .. this is maybe another form of 'up-selling' .. adding value to easy jobs to increase profits. thanks for the video I always like to see the vids, common sense and practicality. 👍 good fix

      It takes less than two minutes to get the door panel off. It's hardly a big deal, and it's not going to increase anybody's profits. The reason the switch fits from behind is simply a design issue; for it to be removable from the front, it would have to have an escutcheon, and obviously VW wanted the switch to look cleaner than that.

    Obrigado Luis! Imagine how much the dealer would charge to diagnose & replace, but now seeing your repair will give others the opportunity to attempt a repair themselves. If that doesn’t work, well at least we had a try..

    Imagine if aviation had the same standards as automotive, planes would be falling out of the sky daily. I can just imagine how the landing gear would be designed, to save weight we put some plastic parts here, and according to some mumbo jumbo science it's actually stronger than titanium.
    Those silicone buttons i have fixed years ago in a programmable remote control i really liked, they simply stop being conductive, you cant scratch or do anything to fix them, the best solution i found was to glue foil to the button, which also comes with it's own problems, glue and silicone doesn't really bind well.

    Awesome tutorial. I couldn't buy spare replacement part in my country. Open the switch unit, clean membrane on blank a4 paper, use alcohol to wipe contacts with q tip. Worked for me. You can also use conductive paint or aluminium foil tape to fix the keypad membrane.

    I had the same issue in a VW Caddy. I cleaned the conductive pads and the contacts on the board. I also soldered the pins in place, just for good measure. It seems to have solved the problem for me.

    Nice fix, it's always a joy to repair at component level. However, I wouldn't have made that fix because if that membrane comes off, you are facing the risk of sudden and random central lock openings. Instead, I would have either ordered a new button (straight and more expensive solution) or re-painting the contact rubber with Caikote44 fluid.
    Keep doing that great job!

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  3 года назад +1

      Very unlikely that the membrane will ever come off...
      I glued it to the rest of it, plus once the button is all assembled, it tights everything together...
      Well, at least in did not came off for 1 year... 😋

    This looks like an (chinese) aftermarket switch. I took apart a lot of VW (and chinese copys) switches over the years to change the LED colors. Normally the VW boards are green. And the button you touch is black plastic with molded in symbols on original VW switches and not painted white plastic. Just wanted to let you know.
