Just completed my own DIY ceiling so big thanks nuttyprof11. Previously the room ( lantern shaped glazed pitched roof approx 4mtr x 2mtr) was freezing in winter and red hot in summer plus the glaring sun made the room on occasion un-usable. Pretty much followed your guidance, with following, which may help others.
    1. Used frosted peel on sheet to hide superquilt / battons only where visible ( £10 ebay)
    2. Self tapping screws needed on first layer of battons (£3) Take advice from upvc supplier.
3 Ensure battons & retaining trim follow upvc struts exactly ( £30)
4 Plan refitting of roof braces, suggest threaded rod into existing fixings
5 Plan how high point will be finished off plus fixings for item 4
    6. Super quilt works brilliantly (£95) but should have bought a big stapler
    7. You MUST tape seal superquilt to upvc, NO gaps or you will suffer condensation in the void
    8. 3 plank upvc cladding & associated trims etc ( £80 ) simply to hacksaw cut
    9. 2 man job to fit planking into retaining trim, last side should be a long side ( spring)
10 Buy / borrow a quality battery drill and a small battery screwdriver & correct sized bits for the screws to be used, its hard graft having your arms above your head for 2 1/2 days
Cant describe the improvement in temperature control, heater was on max before which didn't touch it, now rarely use, and also quite chuffed how it looks, finally would report the official quotation of £2500 wasn't used as I installed for less than £250 and no it doesn't look like a crappy diy job! Good luck, anyone want one doing, my price would be £2450!!!!

Hi great video ,were thinking of doing the same but unsure what screws you use the fit the battens up did you use self drilling screws or did you pilot drill then use normal screws any would be great

hi , why do you have to put a batten up fist ? why cant the insulation roll be put up first without battens ? but than put the batten up on the insulation so that the panels can be fixed, thank you

Thanks Paul. Was the PVC made by Consortia? Trying to find a stockist close by to source this type of cladding. Where did you get yours from, so you mind me asking? I need it asap!

Hi. We are getting this done, would you mind if we picked your brains on how you did it please? Need to know detail on ventilation mainly. We were going to batten onto aluminium supports for existing roof, then attach super quilt, then batten again and plasterboard and skim. But unsure of how to ventilate to avoid condensation. Also whether it is too heavy and if plaster will crack excessively...Our roof is polycarb by the way. Thanks.

***** Hi tracy just seen this sorry. The cross ventilation goes from outside of the roofdrill 10 mm holes just under the over hang were your gutter is i put tree in every panel length then put slot vents on them, then drilled through the ridge so the air flow from one side of the roof to the other.Remember you are only drilling Above the battens you are putting up.Paul

Thanks Paul. I'll pass this on to the builders doing the work for us, it's all new to them (insulating a conservatory roof) and so a bit experimental. Did you have any worries about the upvc structure holding the weight of the cladding? We are having plasterboard and a bit iffy on if it'll be a strain on the roof. Also how much space did the new insulated ceiling take up? I want to make sure it doesn't come down beneath the first glazed pane of course. Thanks!

***** Hi tracy i did not use plaster board i used white ash pvc faster and no mess 20 times lighter and also the 10mm mm air gap in the pvc gives a bit of insulation and sound deadning as well .and you dont have to paint it.,if the pvc is stapled up you should see no fixingd. I used superquilt on the roll it is only 8mm thick works well. dont forget you need the first 25mm batten screwing up then your superquilt stapleing on then another 25mm batten on top then your plasterboard but i would go with vinyl. it cost about £250 for all materials to do a 2.5 x 3.5 metre conservatory. Paul

+Nuttyprof11 Hi, we are looking at doing something similar to this, but wanted to be clear on exactly how you ventilate the gap between the polycarbonate roof and the insulation. Do you have any pictures etc?
      Thanks in advance!

hi there, could Nuttyprof11 or anybody else please help. I am preparing to do the same insulation to my conservatory but I cannot find anywhere the info on where exactly to drill the into the aluminium beams in order to attach the batons. Do I drill in the middle or to the side. I think I saw some people drilling to the side. I am not sure now. I just thought that if you drill in the middle then it might weaken the beam. My beams structure is that they are 63mm (aluminium) and 70mm (plastic cover actually seen), aluminium beam having 2 vertical parts that are 13mm apart position 90 degrees to the horizontal part that is 63mm, now obviously 25mm each side from those two vertical parts is the place where I thought I should drill. In other words into the middle of the 25mm path. Alternatively I could drill into precisely the middle, but then the screw will go right in the middle between the 2 vertical bits, and that is what I am concerned about. Sorry about the layman's explanations.

What does it look like from the outside? Can't you just see all that alu foil? Not sure it'd pass the wife-test :(
