I got this monitor, and it works perfectly with my work laptop! Thx! Could I have a question, please? One laptop I have is a Lenovo Ideapad 5. @lockednLoaded31 you can but it can get tricky to get it set up. A bit of an Art & Science. 😀 I would recommend you use Dell Display Manager to assist you with the configuration.
If one were to daisy chain two U2724DE monitors using Thunderbolt, does that mean the computer would also see two ethernet and audio ports from the hub? Or do only the ones on the first monitor work and the second monitor is strictly video?
Huge thanks for your fantastic review, I'm totally sold and planning to grab either the D or DE, but there are few things holding me back . For DE Version: 1. Can you turn off charging over the Thunderbolt cable, or is it always on? 2. My laptop's a Lenovo P15 with a 150W charger. Will it charge slower through the monitor's 90W Thunderbolt, or just not at all? Now, for the D version: If I use HDMI or DP for video, can I connect a mouse, keyboard, and headphones to the monitor's USB ports, then use one USB cable to connect them all to my laptop? (Asking because my current monitor has this cool setup). For context, my current ThinkVision has 4 USB ports and an audio jack. I've got keyboard, mouse, speakers, and phone charging/data plugged in, with one HDMI and one USB cable going to my laptop. When my wife uses it, she just swaps in her DP cable and uses the same USB cable. Really appreciate your time and help! Your answers will make all the difference in my decision.
Hello Michael! Thank you for the great video! I do not understand how this display will work with MacBook Pro 14 m3 max which has 254 ppi . Will we see some blurry fonts in pdf files for example ?
My desktop has a Thunderbolt port on the motherboard. Can I drive the monitor with the display port on my gpu while using thunderbolt to connect to all my accessories?
That will work, as long as you connect both your TBT and DisplayPort into the display. Your TBT will act as your USB upstream. Note: Ethernet will not pass through to your desktop with your setup.
Excited for these new monitors, as well as your U3425WE . Any chance you guys are working on a something like your U3821DW ? Which is a 24:10 ultrawide. love the added vertical space. looking for that 120Hz and ips black though. Also kinda expensive for commercial use, they are competing with OLEDs in price. but the OLED beats it in color accuracy, black levels, blooming, viewing angles
@DDHDTV Right now we have 32:9 21:9, 16:9 and 16:10 in the commercial monitors. As far as the OLED, you are not likely to see OLED's in commercial monitors because of temporal luminance stability. Commercial monitors are designed for being on longer and lasting longer than consumer displays. That may change over the next few years. QD (Quantum Dot)-OLED is showing some encouraging stability and color improvements. We will see.
Thank you for answering my questions below. I really love soooo much about this monitor (and I'm considering getting it soon), especially the care for eyes (I've had some issues with my eyes due to staring at the screen for my job). I love that the colour rating are high 98%DCI-P3 and 100%sRGB for editing. Curious to know what the Adobe RGB rating is on this monitor please? TIA 🌸😊

Can you help me. I'm looking for a monitor to process images and also play games. I was looking at the Dell U2724D model, the response time is 8 ms (normal), 5 ms (fast), and 120 Hz. Would it be able to handle games?????
If the information is true, yes. For example, my 27GN750 claims 1 ms, but that is on Fastest mode, that is unusable because adds a lot of invert ghosting, this mode is there just so they can market 1ms, the Fast mode accordantly with RTINGS is about 5 ms. So if this information is true, it would be on par with the fast IPS standard. You need to find out if this fast mode is usable, or it's just there for marketing.
For most recreational gamer's a 120Hz is good. There is usually a tradeoff between resolution/color and refresh rate. In my opinion refresh rate is more important than the response rate. Think of response rate as each pixel being a soldier and the refresh rate being the Drill Sergeant. The Drill Sergeant gives out a command to the soldiers to do a pushup. Refresh rate is how many commands a Sergeant can give in a second. The Response rate is how fast the soldiers can do the pushup. There is little use in having a fast response rate if the refresh rate is slow. Hope that makes sense.
@@MichaelOHanian I have the opposite opinion, fast response time gives you de illusion of high refresh rate. My 60 hz oled looks as smooth as 120hz IPS if the fast movement is not huge. And my VA 144hz still looks like crap, so I rather play on 60 hz Fast IPS than this.
I want to buy the Dell U2724D 27 (With no Thunderbolt) to use with my macbook pro 2018. Will I get 120Hz refresh rate with the macbook pro (2018) via USBC to Display port? Thanks in advance

@joythomson6436 in your situation you will need to get some kind of docking (like the Dell UD22 universal dock). The U2724D is a standard display, the U2724DE had the Hub (docking) built into it.
Q = 4K D = QHD E = Hub display. The U2724DE came out after the U2723QE, so U2723QE does not have Thunderbolt, does not have 120Hz refresh rate (it has 60Hz) and does not have Ambient Light sensor. U2723QE is still a great display. I used it for over a month and loved it (I switch displays every month to better understand what it is like to work with them).

is i plug throw thunderbolt 4 cable with my macbook pro 14 i'' ll get 2k 120hz?
Does the KVM support wake from sleep by keyboard (i.e. without actually turning the laptop/computer directly on)?
Great video. Really useful information, thanks. Quick question. If I had two U2724DE monitors, could I connect each to different laptops via thunderbolt. And still daisychain and use KVM features. I.e. to save on having to connect multiple cables into second laptop?
wait, so can I daisy chain U3425WE and U2724D? I figured I could since U3425WE is a thunderbolt hub monitor... but now I'm wondering if it's possible since they have different resolutions.
I got this monitor, and it works perfectly with my work laptop! Thx!
Could I have a question, please? One laptop I have is a Lenovo Ideapad 5. When connecting it through Thunderbolt to the monitor, sometimes it works, yet sometimes the monitor can't detect any signal. Is there a setting I can tweak for the monitor to always work with a device like this? Many thanks for your kind attention.
So I can connect my macbook air m2 to the monitor hub and connect another monitor and use both monitors, without the need for displaylink ?
Will there also be a 24 inch model, like a U2424DE?
@dominikt.7167 there is: U2424H/ U2424HE 23.8” FHD, 120Hz, HW LBL, ALS (HE: USB-C PD 90W, RJ45 2.5G)
@@MichaelOHanian Thanks for the answer! Looks good, but with only FHD and only a contrast ratio of 1:1000, it's not an alternative for me. I don't get why Dell doesn't keep the same specs in the smaller models (eg 24 inches) but always goes down with the specs as model sizes decrease.
Is it possible to hook up two laptops (pc) with two U2724de daisy chained and then KVM between the two laptops and keep the daisy chain active for both screens?
@lockednLoaded31 you can but it can get tricky to get it set up. A bit of an Art & Science. 😀 I would recommend you use Dell Display Manager to assist you with the configuration.
This is great news! I would love to hear more details on this if possible. I have Dell Display Manager installed on both machines.
Did you have any luck doing this?
@@matthewgrimwade7921nothing yet, hoping to hear a follow-up from Mr.OHanian
If one were to daisy chain two U2724DE monitors using Thunderbolt, does that mean the computer would also see two ethernet and audio ports from the hub? Or do only the ones on the first monitor work and the second monitor is strictly video?
Huge thanks for your fantastic review, I'm totally sold and planning to grab either the D or DE, but there are few things holding me back .
For DE Version:
1. Can you turn off charging over the Thunderbolt cable, or is it always on?
2. My laptop's a Lenovo P15 with a 150W charger. Will it charge slower through the monitor's 90W Thunderbolt, or just not at all?
Now, for the D version:
If I use HDMI or DP for video, can I connect a mouse, keyboard, and headphones to the monitor's USB ports, then use one USB cable to connect them all to my laptop? (Asking because my current monitor has this cool setup).
For context, my current ThinkVision has 4 USB ports and an audio jack. I've got keyboard, mouse, speakers, and phone charging/data plugged in, with one HDMI and one USB cable going to my laptop. When my wife uses it, she just swaps in her DP cable and uses the same USB cable.
Really appreciate your time and help! Your answers will make all the difference in my decision.
Thanks for the video - very useful. Can I ask, is your audio slightly out of sync with the video?
Hello Michael! Thank you for the great video!
I do not understand how this display will work with MacBook Pro 14 m3 max which has 254 ppi . Will we see some blurry fonts in pdf files for example ?
Can you clarify what you don’t understand how it will work? It will work…no it won’t look blurry
Will 120hz affect performance on my dell xps 15 2023?
I Have the simplest graphic
Since you work for dell, can you please tell me if ultrasharp 4k 120hz is coming anytime soon. Pretty please
We have a 5K 120Hz U4025QW that is lunching now. Other than that, nothing that I am aware of (in the commercial line) this year.
@@MichaelOHanian thanks for the reply. so there aren't gonna be any more monitors this year apart from the ones already announced?
@@MichaelOHanianto me 2160 is 4K , not 5k?
In case you have macbook air m2, is it possible to connect to USB C without charging ?
Hi!
It will possible turn off standby LED light blinking in the future?
My desktop has a Thunderbolt port on the motherboard. Can I drive the monitor with the display port on my gpu while using thunderbolt to connect to all my accessories?
That will work, as long as you connect both your TBT and DisplayPort into the display. Your TBT will act as your USB upstream. Note: Ethernet will not pass through to your desktop with your setup.
Can you use a U2723QE and a U2724D as a dual set up with a Mac Studio M2 Max?
TIA 🌸😊
Around 96% of Adobe RGB covered
Tks Help me a lot! This is a best review!!! I was in doubt between U2724D and Sansung UR550 4K. For coding and eye confort I liked more Dell U2724D, I'm switching from my old LG 23MP55HQ monitor (1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz) and I'm very excited to buy this monitor. When it arrives I will comment on my experience after a few days of use.
Hey, I'm situation is similar to your moving from 60hz to 120hz , planning to buy the U2724D, so how is your experience so far?
@@harishs3765 I had a very good experience, confort eyes are better, after 10 hours of work I feel much better than old monitor, but quad hd is not a good resolution, O think of the ultrasharp with Full HD maybe the same experience because I need upsclale font size
What is a thunderbolt hub? Can I use the usb c in the D version to connect my display?
Great monitor and video, but pretty upmarket. The U2720Q needs a refresh to 120hz, but with no hub or superfluous ports.
@jordanLong20 Perhaps we'll see that in a year or so. However, we just launched a 40" 5K with 120Hz U4025QW.
@@MichaelOHanian Eager to see it!
Where can i get that wallpaper with the splash/explosion in the start of your video? 😍
Try to use circle to search. Thats how i found it on my android device. Links nornaly dont work on youtube.
Hello ! Thank you for good content. What is the diffrency between U2724DE and the U2723QE.
@muradhabib4440 The DE is is QHD, the QE is 4K. DE is TBT4 vs QE is USB-C, DE had 120Hz refresh rate the QE is 60Hz. The DE has a ambient light sensor the QE doesn't. The U2723QE came out last year, the U2724DE just launched. Hope this helps.
so for a macbook daisy-chaining 2x DE is possible, can you do the same with 2x U2723QE ??
Yep
& use it as a KVM switch as well
Can you help me.
@will_day I am not a MacBook user but this is what I found on an Apple blog. The 2018 MacBook Pro only supports a 60 Hz refresh rate with external displays. However, the MacBook Pro can be adjusted to 120 Hz for smoother video playback and improved video editing. support.apple.com/en-euro/102297#:~:text=On%2014%2Dinch%20and%2016,refresh%20rate%20up%20to%20120Hz.
@@MichaelOHanian thank you very much
Well I purchased Dell’s 34” oled ultra wide for gaming , and will order this today for photo editing. Unless you feel there’s a better 27” option for Lightroom photoshop etc . Thanks for the review
Nice Video, Can you tell me, can the Auto brightness setting be disabled?
You can disable it. If you are like me I always have it on 100%. It is how I keep my tan in the winter. :🙂
@@MichaelOHanian I ended up getting this display, what an awesome monitor! 90% brightness seems to work well for me :)
Can you daisy chain two U2724D (non hub) monitors or does one have to have a thunderbolt port
Just to clarify - I have an Asus Vivobook it doesn't have a thunderbolt port or display port. It has HDMI, 2 x USB A-3.2 gen 1 and 1 x USB-C 3.2 gen 1 ports, can two U2724D monitors (with no thunderbolt ports) be daisy chained and work on that laptop ? (I currently have one Dell 27inch U2724D monitor that runs off the HDMI port (Asus Vivobook) to the Dell monitor HDMI port).
@joythomson6436 in your situation you will need to get some kind of docking (like the Dell UD22 universal dock). The U2724D is a standard display, the U2724DE had the Hub (docking) built into it.
Thank you very much. I learned a lot from the video. Could you please also explain the difference between the QE and DE models?
Q = 4K D = QHD E = Hub display. The U2724DE came out after the U2723QE, so U2723QE does not have Thunderbolt, does not have 120Hz refresh rate (it has 60Hz) and does not have Ambient Light sensor. U2723QE is still a great display. I used it for over a month and loved it (I switch displays every month to better understand what it is like to work with them).
Thanks for the clarification. However it's quite confusing that Q = UHD instead of QHD. The latter would make more sense, I suppose 🤔
Can you please provide more information about the high IPS Glow/Bleed some users reported on Reddit?
@xiPl4Yx I have seen comments on this in some blogs. I have tested multiple Dell IPS Black displays and have not seen this. I uses the Dell IPS Black displays for work (on one right now).
Hey @@MichaelOHanian, two days ago my U2724D has arrived, and the first impression is very positive. Great colors, blacks and gray uniformity. It's great to see a 120Hz panel with VRR support in a productivity series.
@@xiPL4Yx Thank you for choosing Dell!
İs this monitor flicker free? I couldn't find it anywhere
@ozkandursun4599 It has the TUV flicker free label. It has achieved a 5-Star-certified monitor will have a high refresh rate (≥ 120 Hz) and high color accuracy and feature hardware to reduce blue light and flicker, as well as brightness and color temperature control for ambient lighting. Hope this helps.
@@MichaelOHanian Thank you
Is it possible to turn off the auto adjust with the brightness and colour temperature
@joythomson6436 You can.

Any issue using this with a Mac Air M2 - want to use 2 of these with the Air
@mazz777 I don't see any issues. The Mac Air M2 has Thunderbolt ports.
@@MichaelOHanianyou're wrong, Mac air allows only 1 external display. He can connect 2 displays to his MacBook air m2 only if he has a dock with the Display Link chip.
@@hvasya I should have stated that more clearly. When I say natively, that is what I mean. No drivers. We have docking stations at Dell, such as the UD22 that uses Display Link and can support up to 3 displays with MacBook.
Very nice video, thanks
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
What's the difference between the D and DE model?
The DE has an build in Thunderbolt 4 Hub
@benseyesvisuals the D is lacking the hub (docking) and the Thunderbolt. The U2724DE is good to pair with the U2724D because they look identical and by not having Thunderbolt and hub you can save a little money. If you are a MacBook user you have to get both DE versions to get dual display.
thanks for the reply! is the thunderbolt dock necessary for other purposes besides using it as a chain hub? @@MichaelOHanian
@@MichaelOHanian is there an explenation why the mac doesnt support daisy chaining from DE to D ?
@@DavideMaiolo Quick answer is that macOS does not support Multi-Stream Transport (MST). However, some Mac users on Reddit are claiming they are able to daisy chain by using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable to the second display...so I'm not entirely sure if Michael is correct saying that both need to be the DE model.
Michael, I really don't post comments often under videos, but I happily make an exception for yours. Thanks a million for your amazing video! It was absolutely clear, straight to the point, while still maintaining an excellent level of detail... Just awesome.
