--►It is believed that the origins of Bracco Italiano can be traced back to the 5th century. There are various theories about the origins of these classic pointers, but most likely the marriages are descended from molossians and Egyptian dogs, like most European hunting dogs. Italian marriages were popular in the Middle Ages, they were kept at the courts of the Medici and Gonzaga, and were used in aristocratic hunting for game birds. White and orange marques can be seen in the 14th century frescoes. There were two varieties of the breed: the lighter, white-orange brakes, adapted to hunting in the mountains, came from Piedmont, and the larger white-chestnut ones from Lombardy. Over time, as a result of intrabreed crosses, the differences between the two varieties have disappeared.
