I think it's an absolutely marvellous theme, and so thankful Williams got to compose it!

It was such a gift for him to come back and write this theme. It doesn’t quite fit with the sound of the original trilogy but it just demonstrates how well Williams can pivot.

@@starwarsmusicanalysis you’re right, it doesn’t quite fit the original trilogy, but the rest of the music in this series is a far cry from anything close to the original trilogy, prequels, and sequels! It’s more in keeping with his own style for sure, but I find there is just something completely enchanting about this theme. All hail JW!!

Right on. I’m really glad you liked it. I definitely wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to pick apart what is likely the final Star Wars Music that Williams will ever write.

The intervals at the beginning of the theme are also vaguely related to the beginning of Qui Gon’s motif, or at least they sound like it to me.

I can’t personally hear it except they both a slight turn in them. But you could definitely be right and that would be an awesome connection as well to his old master!

Finally you covered the theme and you did great job! Curious to see what they will do for episode 4 ( also hope they include more classic themes )

Thanks! Me too. The classics didn’t really come until chapter 6 of BoBF so I’m curious. Would love to these more of them but I understand that we just may not going forward.
What do you think of the theme on its own. Does it hold up to those for Luke, Leia, and others from ANH?

@@starwarsmusicanalysis To me it’s definitely one of the most mature sounding themes in the franchise and it feels like a personal reflection of John Williams present day. It feels like Williams was less focus on trying to imitate himself 45 years ago was just trying to capture the essence of Obi Wan,regardless of if it sounded like something from the original trilogy. I can really respect that and I must say I do enjoy it.

I think that’s a great assessment of it from his perspective!

Not only is it similar to the Force theme, but the 3rd & 4th measures are very similar to the main title aka Luke's theme. :)
(You probably said this and I just missed it lol)

Haha. @Redcaio I didn’t mention it but I thought about it afterwards, kicked myself, and thought, I bet Red is gonna call me out on that.
I’ve got your genius insights pegged. Haha. Thanks for watching!

Listening to Obi Wan's theme, I heard elements of Quigon's theme as well what you mentioned in the video. What do you think?

I think you could be right. Someone else mentioned hearing that as well. Both are natural minor so it’s a very possible coincidence, but I also wouldn’t put it past John to find a way to connect them. Thanks for watching!

    • @starwarsmusicanalysis

It’s weak because it was not allowed to sound like Star Wars. That was out of Holt’s control. I think the theme is ok and it reflects Kenobi well in this series. John is always great with musical rhetoric. But even if didn’t fit with other Star Wars music quite the same way. I’m sure it’s hard to make a theme and fit in after so many years.
      Thanks for watching!
