@@volkiremix I love Istanbul but I would be lying if I said I would have preferred the Byzantine empire to not have fallen. It's a shame even European states attacked it (also the crusades) and left it in a deplorable state which the Turkish to take advantage of

This film was my first glimpse of Istanbul and it almost felt like a step back in time to a grander, bygone age. I want to visit it now. Thank you Brigitte! Istanbul is probably the most progressive city in Turkey. Some women again wear a Hijab though - the islamic headwear. There are many places where you can see more traditional culture like the side streets. It's nice to visit and popular with tourists again and overall modern. I did some walk also on the Asian side of the city which is more alternative with many students living there. During my short trip this time I made 5 videos so 3 more are coming over the next weeks/months. I plan to visit more of Turkey and see some other cities there

I had 3 days on that trip and it was my second visit since 12 years ago. One can easily spend a week and Istanbul and discover many more things. I hopefully remember the beaches next time. Will see when I can return

when I was in Turkey in the late 1950's, we could exchange $ at our base financial office for about 14.lira to the dollar. That was stopped and it lead to a big explosion of black market activity...in my time, Istanbul had about 1 million people. I recall the old tunel cars which are now retired.
Some of the people you see in this video especially those along that thoroughfare called "İstiklal Caddesi"_Independence Street-are tourists as this is the most vibrant, popular entertainment, shopping and cultural district in the city, which has a mixture of mostly western and Turkish ambiance to it. I so miss the walks I took up and down "Beyoğlu" which is what I used to and still call "İstiklal caddesi" when I was a university student in İstanbul. There used to be many cinemas, theatres and bars there. Now it's mostly shops and cafés. A must do when in İstanbul.

You're right. The perspective was a bit hard as you are rather close to the tower. It looks nice as seen here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galata_Tower - I took a few photos when I got there and should post the on the site. Though - maybe I film it better next time. Hope to return to this city sometime soon.

when I was in Turkey in the late 1950's, we could exchange $ at our base financial office for about 14.lira to the dollar. That was stopped and it lead to a big explosion of black market activity...in my time, Istanbul had about 1 million people. I recall the old tunel cars which are now retired.

Some of the people you see in this video especially those along that thoroughfare called "İstiklal Caddesi"_Independence Street-are tourists as this is the most vibrant, popular entertainment, shopping and cultural district in the city, which has a mixture of mostly western and Turkish ambiance to it. I so miss the walks I took up and down "Beyoğlu" which is what I used to and still call "İstiklal caddesi" when I was a university student in İstanbul. There used to be many cinemas, theatres and bars there. Now it's mostly shops and cafés. A must do when in İstanbul.

Çok büyük kısmı meslek lisesi çıkışlı olup iş hayatına atılırlar. Kültürel entelektüel konularda cidden kötüler. Ama bizim yaşlı jenerasyon çok kötü onları at sollarız çoğu ülkeyi :)

You're right. The perspective was a bit hard as you are rather close to the tower. It looks nice as seen here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galata_Tower - I took a few photos when I got there and should post the on the site. Though - maybe I film it better next time. Hope to return to this city sometime soon.
@@poptravelorg If you return, walk by the Bosporus and film from Camlica Asian side, maybe the Tower of Camlica (highest tower in the city)maybe open than, If you have time take the ferry to the Princess Islands.
