    As in Japan, in Mex City cables have to be hanging outside and not underground since in both countries earthquakes are a common thing, it is easier to repair or find the part damaged if visible. The sidewalks are torn coz of the tree roots, but many of these trees are over 200 years old, they are protected , cutting them is forbidden, but yes sidewalks could also be readapted to the countour of the trees.

    If I have to describe Mexico and, specifically, Mexico City, I would say VIVRANT... It could be noise, it could be chaotic but if feels alive 24/7... I remember visiting Mexico City since i was a kid with my familt and when i was young, I visited itwith a friend and we stayed in Centro Historico hotel, I remember my friend watching from our room windows down to the people walking on the streets at 3 am like it was daytime... year later I moved to live in the city for almost a decade and the city became my home and I walked and drove those streets everyday... after I moved to Canada (Ottawa) and I remember i decided to visit downtown at night during October around 6 pm.... woow, the streets were empty and the stores were closed... it was shocking for me... Canadians and Mexicans we have a very different lifestyles... being honest, I couldn't handle too much quiet atmosphere and years later I moved to Toronto that is in the middle of Mexico City and Ottawa atmosphere, but too bad it's becoming very dangerous...

    Hi! Very interesting video. Don't be so hard on Canada not preserving its old arquitecture, Mexico has had a large history of buildings that were lost due to political and economic reasons. You have to consider this city was called "La ciudad de los palacios" (The city of palaces) back in the XVIII century because of the quality and number of buildings the capital of the spanish America had. By the XIX century all religious buildings were seized by the government as a result of the Reforma war, that pretended to lessen the power the catholic church. Quite a large amount of buildings during that time were lost. Those old buildings also represented the spanish opression and they became secularized and sold in lots. Most of what you see in very turistic areas as La Roma or La Juarez neighborhoods are XIX century, many built during the government of president / dictator Porfirio Diaz, who had a thing for anything French. All those buildings and older ones are protected now, but well into the first half of the XX century they were not and many were lost. Also the history of earthquakes in the city has also had its share in the lost of arquitecture. But still, right now art decó buildings are not protected and some jewels of the period are lost or modified in such a way they no longer show the carecteristics of the style. Regarding the cables in the streets, only downtown mex city doesn't have those ugly cables, they were buried years ago, pretty much by the incentive of mexico's richest man Carlos Slim and that was after downtown Mex city was considered human patrimony by the Unesco. You didn't see many skyscrapers because in Mexico city they are not only clustered in 1 hub. Seems you only were near the Reforma cluster of skyscrapers, but you missed the most modern one at Santa Fe. There is another cluster being currently made in the south of the city in insurgentes sur, where the Mitikah tower was built, the tallest right now with 267.3 meters high / 68 floors of mixed use: mall, offices and appartments. Here is not like Totonto were the cluster of all skyscrapers is in the same area, we have at least 3 clusters in the city.

    • @TakeTimeToTravel
      @TakeTimeToTravel  17 дней назад +6

      It's not surprising that there is European architecture here, but rather that so much of it is still surviving. Unfortunately in Toronto, we have lost so many of our older buildings to "development"! Not sure that glass and steel buildings will be something that we're proud of in the future though... We're thrilled to find such walkable and enjoyable streets here in Mexico City, and sorry that you misinterpreted our comment. Thanks for watching :)

    Hello Enrique here from the Mayan Riviera, I lived in TO for about 13 years. There are a lot of skyscrapers in Mexico city but in the Santa Fe area and just a few in Reforma mostly cause the heart of downtown has a building regulation that prevents from really tall buildings around downtown also because of the swampy underground would not be a good idea. Cheers.

More perspective please not condescendence. We know how maginifical this city is... the fact that you have been lied to all your life does not justify two grown men exposing their lack of curiosity about the world. bye!

      Mexican pal here! Don't mean to intercede for these guys but, truth is that the intended audience for this channel is basically middle class Canadians/US Citizens, so they basically don't care if we locals struggle to pay a subway ride. It's not personal, we humans are like that. When I went to India, I was also amazed of how CHEAP was everything in rupees compared to our peso. On the other hand, what you describe as their surprise at us being civilized is just a reflection of the bad fame Mexico has overseas with all this cartel and drug violence narrative selled by their local governments and media. It's like we us Mexicans believe there are school shootings every day in every county and every state of the USA. Last but not least, we both know the current subway fare in Mexico City is waaay to cheap. Not the cheapest (we still can see trolebuses for only $2 MXP), but way cheaper than the bus fares in the State of Mexico. More perspective, please, not condescendence.

      @@PipoGirlTvMexican here too. I couldn't agree more with your comment. Considering that I live in the UK, the transportation in Mexico is cheap!!

      In my opinion, you are misinterpreting the comments in the video and projecting your own insecurities and, maybe, other past experiences, about what other people may think of your city and country. I watched the video and then again after reading your comments and there was nothing to me that implied any of the things that you perceived.
      I live in Toronto, where half of the people in the city was born outside of Canada and are from all parts of the world, including Mexico. Many of those that were born in Canada are the children of those born outside of Canada. We have more awareness of the wider world than you imagine are not so ignorant as you may believe. A friend of my sister married a Mexican man and they both lived in Mexico City for a few years. They are currently living here in Toronto with their children. My sister visited them a few times when they lived in Mexico City. They both worked in Mexico City and they both work here now in Toronto. Canadians have to work hard to earn a living just like Mexicans.
      "Cheap" is just about the comparative exchange rate between currencies and that's reflected in the higher cost of living in Canada. The 24 cent USD ride on public transit in Mexico City is "cheap(er)" compared to the $2.28 USD fare for public transport in Toronto. Chapultepec Park is something for you to be very proud of. In large urban areas, especially of the size and population of Mexico City, there is much pressure to use land for purposes other than parks. Chapultepec Park is remarkable in its size for that reason. For a comparison, Chapultepec Park is four times larger than the largest park in Tokyo. That is the "surprise'" they are referring to....the size, not surprise that there are parks and civilization, etc.
      If they had really thought poorly of Mexico beforehand, they would not have chosen to visit Mexico.

    The reason Mexico City has few skyscrapers is because it is a seismic area and there is no need for several super tall buildings although it is inevitable that the city continues to grow and more buildings will be built but they will be built with the latest in seismic proof engineering and architecture like many that already exist in the city.

    México City has pockets of skyscrapers just like Reforma you have Polanco or Santa Fe districts. Plus cdmx is the oldest inhabited capital city in the continent which makes it more interesting. Toronto is great, but i wouldn't say is different than a lot of US metropolitan areas and it's cold.. not talking about the weather. Ha. Glad you enjoy cdmx. Saudos❤
