Mechanical lock out switch is for sure the best thing about that light. I wish Wuben would have done that on their X series of lights, the 4 quick taps to lock/unlock is terrible, it's like having a seizure to lock it out.

EDC33 seems like a nice light in many ways, but I always hold off on lights you can't replace the battery over $30. Did you look at the EDC35 too? I don't really understand how long the "turbo" lasts on it.
I do love a good light, a lot of good use for them, and for that kind of money, I have lots of criteria, the one missing on both, magnetic base. I need to be able to be hands free. Love my Olights. Mainly for that reason

Great review. Agree flashlight are tools enjoy seeing reviewed here. Not sure nite core are going forward tho. May of said before the EU has passed law that all gadgets ie phones flashlights laptops etc have to have removable batteries without the use it of special tools. Really disappointed in nite core with the throw away when battery fail ethos. It's a good well made flashlight let down by the 1980s thinking. Olight are the same. Fantastic quality but not cheap and to spend money knowing in three years not going to be reliable runtime. when needed most is a deal breaker when just popping in a new battery is a easy solution to e waste.
Sorry, I have no need/want for lights that use rechargeable, built in, proprietary and/or otherwise special batteries.

Do you just suffer with crappy capacity single-use alkalines then? The EDC33 just uses a standard 18650 cell. If you have ANY interest in flashlights buying a handful of 18650s and a charger is a good way to never need to buy alkalines again (at least for flashlights). I avoid lights with PROPRIETARY rechargeable batteries, but Fenix & Nitecore both make some very nice flashlights & headlamps with onboard USB-C charging for whatever 18650 battery is in them - and that's pretty damn nice to have.
I really don’t need 4000 lumens in a pocket light. I wish manufacturers would try and optimize other features like CRI and battery life. Also, if they want feature filled lights, put a separate switch on the light. These crazy UIs on one button are terrible.
I bought a few BLF flashlights some years ago, great flashlights, very high CRI. I've handled pro-lighting equipment that has worse CRI. UI isn't the most intuitive, but from the brands that usually gets EDC-tube reviews the UIs seem to usually be even worse.
And it's not a single-use, which should be a dealbreaker but we live in strange times.

i have a rotary dimmer on one of my helmet lights. it's the best@@ks-hg5vo you can adjust it in gloves even two finger gloves because you just sort of slide over the lamp and it catches the thing
Reylight produces some fairly good and straightforward lights with great cri and balance. Got more than I would admit to my wife.
771 lumens for more than 2 hours, 126 grams with battery, 6.1 lumens per gram, honestly very impressive. don't care about the 1kl to check what it does
I believe that your calculation is behind why the battery is not user replaceable.
If its more than 1 mode light I am not buying it…
