  • A "jet tour" of about 500 years of biblical history, including the account of Solomon's life and rule, the splitting of the kingdom, the public ministries of the great prophets Elijah and Elisha, and the decline of both kingdoms in to foreign captivity.
While we do well to guard against over spiritualizing things, there is no question that the spiritual warfare that raged in the promise land for half a millennium was fierce. 1 and 2 Kings is not just a history of the struggles of human rulers, but of the unseen powers.
While we aren't the nation of Israel, and we're nearly 3,000 years removed from some of these stories, the "relevance" of these stories cannot be understated, as there is more than one way back to Egypt, and back into bondage. This is a message the church needs today!
