Yeah, I can't really take credit for that. I never thought I'd see something more beautiful than what we have here in BC but that last section on the way out to the spot was just mind blowing and I'm so glad the footage worked out the way it did.
I just found your channel and really like your content so far! Gonna keep watching. We’re from Canada too and did Baja this summer, amazing time! We heard about the three surfers but the story goes it wasn’t the cartel that killed them but just some lowlifes who wanted the tires off their truck. Apparently it was the cartel who tipped off the police about the killer. ✌🏻
Thanks for the sub! Where in Canada? I also heard this in the news later. Seems probable but there was also a theory that they stumbled in somewhere they should have and the cartel set the lowlife up for plausible deniability. Either way, it was certainly on my mind while soloing through that area deep in the desert and running into random groups who seemed out of place.
Hola! I live and surf in Ensenada and I went to their paddle out with the surf community here to honor them. They came down to surf at a well known surf spot that has a campground at the main break. There is a beach break over a kilometer north of the campground that gets fun when the surf is too small for the break at the campground. The surf was small that weekend so they took the drive up there to surf. There is nothing at all around that beach break but instead of driving the bumpy road back to the campground for the night they decided to camp right there. They were assaulted by thieves looking for an easy target and when they fought back they were shot and murdered. Car thieves most always carry guns. Especially if you are in Baja and someone wants to steal your car you should just give it to them because more times than not they have a gun on them. Down here they won't think twice about shooting you if things take a bad turn for them. RIP
@@davidsebastianelli1326 good on your for honouring them and thank you for the local perspective. I wasn’t sure I should share that part bc I didn’t want to paint a bad or fearful picture of Baja, but it is truly what happened and the thoughts I had at the time. I hope you enjoy much surf and stay safe my friend!
You should get GAIA GPS Premium and get Baja map by National Geographic and you gonna know where exactly you are … very good video be careful driving at night 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 and happy birthday 🎈🎉🎊🎁🎂
I use Gaia exclusively but never thought to look for this layer. Very cool. Don’t worry, I wasn’t ever truly lost. It’s just hard to navigate the washes sometimes as there are so many trails going every which way in the desert.
Yeah Tarentino’s story telling. Tease the end game then go back to the beginning and show how you got there. Apologies if that wasn’t obvious enough. Most of my videos follow this general format now.
Thanks for the recommendation! Part 3 goes live tonight at 7pm. I drove the entire way back north in Part 3 and actually stopped in Punta Final my last night in Baja after I saw Marco's video about it! It was beautiful!
I've remote beach camped, fished and surfed deepest darkest Baja hundreds of times since the early eighties with never any problems that I couldn't talk or pay a few pesos to get out of. One time about 30 years ago me and a friend were surfing in the middle of nowhere near Punta Abreojos. It was mid afternoon and we had just lit an early fire for the night when we saw the lights from two vehicles heading our way from a couple miles down the beach. When the two trucks pulled up at our campsite we saw that they were filled with about a dozen or so of mean looking hombres holding uzi machine guns and were most definitely cartel. One guy who apparently was the boss got out and spoke good English told me they saw the smoke from our fire and asked if they could use it to cook some dinner. Of course I said "Si!" hoping he didn't notice me shaking and the pee running down my leg! When they unloaded they pulled out a couple of burlap bags filled with clams and fish and a bunch of ice cold beer. They gave us a beer and cooked a big dinner of tacos con todo for all of us. We shared some stories and laughs over beers into the early evening. They couldn't stop laughing about how scared we looked when the pulled up. Before they left the Jefe told me that if anybody ever gave us any trouble while we were camping in Baja to just tell them you are good friends with Enrique. I never saw any of them again after that but I have had to name drop a couple times through the years to get out of a jam and ended up getting the royal treatment after I told them that Enrique was good friend of mine. BTW- During those years I fell in love with the food and the friendly, welcoming, helpful people and their family based culture. I figured out years ago that with everything being so affordable here I decided I could easily retire early so I did and moved here a few years ago. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself!! Mucha suerte desde la hermosa Ensenada!

I had the same problem with that military checkpoint bro, their attitude really sucks, and Im from Tijuana, but glad you made it to camp
Thanks buddy. 8/9 check points were chill. It was just the one check point with this one guy that was lame so I think I got off lucky! 🫡

Man I forgot to recommend a spot to camp there.. next time try El Punto Final. It's beautiful and alone with plenty of clams to eat.
I'll upload some pictures if I can find them
