Seiji's earnestness, intellect and candid lack of pretense are plain in this video....what a shame his relationship with Boston deteriorated to the point at which he was derided so stridently by musicians and critics alike. Ozawa is truly an amazing musician....I hope more Americans (like myself) will begin to appreciate him for the big heart and formidable intellect he possesses.

As someone who performed with Seiji over many years, I can whole heartedly agree. The problem (s) were not musicianship or inspiration...he NEVER lost the unique ability to inspire a massed force of musicians...I remember several.
They were of a different nature and were a saddness for all.

I am glad I came across with this video. Thank you so much for uploading.
Fascinating to hear Mr. Ozawa talk about Saito. The amazing Saito Kinen orchestra plays in annual music festivals in Matsumoto, Nagano.

Rugby and piano playing can't go together, so he considered conducting...when God leads you to your path! Btw I am in love with this man : so humble and classy and elegant despite of being a music genius

It is hard to say that this person has the key to open the door to the spiritual abyss while being close to the composer that Dr.Böhm, his ally Karajan, Szell, Keilberth, Matačić, Марке́вич, etc. have. This is because the composer's existence as a result of sneaking through the rough waves of the times as the ground cannot be perceived as being dug up from the background ground. Unfortunately, shallow. It is beautifully organized in a momentary manner. But it's not organic. Incomplete. You can tell by listening.
But, Mozart's Linz with Staatskapelle Dresden, Brahms's No. 1 symphony, handed down by Karajan in Salzburg in the summer, has a unique inspirational Elan and Great chemistry! ~ August 8, 1976 Salzburg.
