Star Wars the Book of Boba Fett has officially started and it has become extremely controversial over whether or not it's a good show or not. Do you think they made Boba Fett too "soft?" Do you think it feels like Star Wars? Are you happy with how many people he's blown up so far? Why haven't they killed as many Jawas yet? These are all big questions that will determine if we get a second season or not, it's time we talk about the real problems

I think Boba Fett is a great show so far with a few little things that seemed off. I'm enjoying the series so far and looking forward to the finale but I'm just hoping they stay true to the look and feel they've found that's Star Wars. Come say hi in the Discord and let me know what you think about it! discord.gg/ESMxk27

Boba Fett is too passive in the show. Yes he is trying to rule with respect but that never was Boba Fett. Boba Fett was the guy Darth Vader literally had to tell “no disintegrations”. He used to be bad A$$. Now he just acts like a push over. Also way too much dialogue for Boba Fett he was always a more quiet person. Only thing I liked was him crawling out of the sarlacc pit and the flashbacks that’s it.

Episode 5 proved that the show can be brutal and ruthless. Temuera Morrison in the Mandalorian Season 2 also showed that he can do his stunts incredibly despite his age. The problem is the director and the fight choreographer of his episodes that has him fight, Robert Rodriguez. He somehow makes things look slow and cheap even with a higher budget and make it look like Spy Kids.

I really have to say, you spoke my mind about the series. It's not necessarily bad, it has great elements and no one can tell me they didn't get heavy-hearted when Boba burned the little Tusken's gaffi stick, but Boba doesn't feel like Boba yet. Yes, he has abandoned his life as a bounty hunter, yes, he wants to rule with respect and not fear, but we saw back in the Mandalorian that Boba is still not someone to be messed with. I remember screaming at the screen when he flew in and demolished those stormtroopers, Book of Boba hasn't had this effect yet is what I feel. Plus, I agree with Temuera being an absolute champ for pulling his own stunts but some of the fight scenes where he has a mask on could easily be made better with a stunt double and a lot more fast paced action. Aaaand the biker gang...yeah I just think they don't fit, not that we haven't seen flashy styled characters before but I feel like we wouldn't be bothered seeing these guys on Coruscant or a party planet or whatever, but on Tatooine they just take you out of the immersion of Star Wars.

For me the problem in the show is not in boba, but the script and fight scenes. Most dialogs are really cheap and uninspiring, the solutions to the problem are the "really? is just that?" kind of solutions, lots of dump decisions... aaand the fights scenes... yeah, gonna skip the details but I really wonder where is the badass boba from the mandalorian.

true, i was one of those guys, but that's not my problem with it, it just felt scuffed. when i saw the art works in the end credit scenes that I would assume they used as a concept guide for the scenes they were doin, i thought it was cool and I get what they were goin for.
it has been established that the Tuskens were the reason why Boba isn't that guy anymore and I hope the show does explain that with more debt and meaning further on, but lots of the scenes in the first few episodes compared to the first few episodes of the Mandalorian was pretty underwhelming, and im not sayin that it needs more "fight scenes" in the first few episodes of this show so it can top The Mandalorian, im talking about the overall presentation of the show like cinematography, choreography, acting, atmosphere etc. and most of this is about the production, the presentation which can affect how the audience feels about this show and ultimately the characters in it.
in my opinion most star wars fans pretty much knows that Boba Fett in the OG star wars was just there for looks and maybe in the comics too and i hope they do make him engaging for the audience in this show by giving him meaning.
      just my thoughts tho

After watching this three times I kind of get what they are going for. Boba is being broken down and built back up into an entirely new character from Din. He speaks more because living with the Tuskens forced him take a more active role and communicate with them, and since he wants to be a crime boss he can no longer be reserved like the Mandalorian. He takes off his Helmet more because he didn't wear it for many years and became accustomed to not wearing one or he's being polite. I think he is still adjusting to being a leader and it is the last two episodes where he will hopefully prove himself to Mos Espa and Fans.
I think not splitting the flashback scenes and present day into different arcs makes his reign feel longer than it actually has been.

This show can be so much better if they do just a few more things.
    1. Stop ruining the mystique of Bobba. Stop taking his helmet off, stop getting him to talk so much. What they’ve done so well with Mando is show much more than tell and Bobba needs to go back to that.
    2. He needs to be more of an anti-hero. I don’t like this new reformed Bobba as if he’s been rehabilitated. Whether he does good or bad it needs to be from a place of his own personal benefit it keeps the story alive and you can throw in some twists and turns.
    3. The biker gang…you all know what needs to happen to them.
    4. Push Bobba as far to the edge of the PG limit as you can go ffs Disney. He’s not a cool uncle, he’s a trained, experienced mercenary!

  • @matthewgarrity9405

The problem was early on, Dave and John never thought they'd be allowed a Boba Fett (and IG88) show. They also said something about not wantig to change things about the characters we liked (that statement didnt age well, I think the behind the scenes series about mando season 1). So they put everything that made Boba a badass and put it into Mando/Din. So when they did get to put Boba in, at first it was perfect, his theme sounded like the grim reaper showed up to reap some souls, he was an absolute barbarian, something they intentionally decided since in their view "If mando is a gunslinger, Boba has to be a barbarian." Yes, that worked, that was well recieved.
So of course when doing a Boba Fett shows, they wanted to make it different, for some reason they don't feel like making a shorter show where he is simply the M rated Mandalorian Warrior since Mando is forever put on the Wolf and Cub path (since they will never split Din and Grogu).

I get that he won’t push spice in his city but he could definitely collect on Podracing bets. It’s exactly criminal enough for our “good Boba” to endorse.

It was considered not good because the flashbacks were not used correctly. A flashback should be used in an episode to compliment something that happened in that episode, however The Book of Boba Fett did not do that, instead giving us a piece of the past and then a pice of the present with no correlation other than ‘nap time.’ I also agree that a stunt double as well as more helmet time and vagueness would have gone a long way, but we also got two episodes of just mandolorian and baby yoda, making this story less about Boba Fett and more about monolorean’s next season, a trailer if you will.

I think Episode 5 is going to launch us into the next level with the story. Boba IS older in this story. Mando is already a bounty hunter and has his own story arc. They had to take the premise of Boba Fett in another direction otherwise everyone would complain that it would be a copy of the Mando story. I frankly love what they've done by giving Boba a lot more depth than he had in the movies. Let Mando do the bounty hunting for another season or two, with some crossover episodes with Book of Boba Fett. Give Fennic some solo episodes - Ming Na Yen can carry episodes all on her own. Finally, Boba can take the lead in the "crime family" stories that really add depth to SW universe post-ROTJ.
Ultimately, as long as the creative team behind both Mando and Boba - Farveau and Filoni - remain in charge, I think it's all going to work out fine. Keep Kennedy out of it. Her job is just to funnel money to them. :)

*I really lke how Boba's story is kinda the opposite from Han's, in Solo: A Star Wars Story we see how Han is abandoned or betrayed by everyone he teamed up with except Chewbacca, even Lando tried cheating on their Sabacc game, after that Han became a selfish smuggler just like everyone else and his only friend was Chewie, meanwhile Boba was raised to be a ruthless bounty hunter since he was a child, but after being in the Sarlacc Pit he met the Tuskens and learned that it was better to have someone to be around you than just being a lonely bounty hunter, and now he meets up with Fennec and Mando.*

I think almost all 5 of those years were spent with the Tuskens.

Problem with showing us a Fett that is changing his identity is we never got to see his old identity. So the change really means nothing to the average viewer. Watching a character reinvent himself when he never had an established personality to begin with has to be off putting.

I think that was completely intentional and honestly kind of funny to see these kids who have committed to a lifestyle that they modify themselves with not practicality, but looks in mind, to own crappy speeders that they've spruced up to look like that. The show does feel like it doesn't have as much resources and structure as season 1 of Mando, and relies a little too much on the name of Boba Fett to carry the early episodes.
Another issue is for the first set of episodes it's not clear on the direction the show is taking. I like the events of the flashbacks, but the information in the flashbacks was too important to give context to Boba's actions and motivation.
The episode he explains he's tired of bounty hunters being used and discarded by others; it's great because it makes sense for the journey the character has been on.
However we don't get that information until the middle of the season, there's no build up, or tangible goals laid out that gives a sense of progression.
I like the show for the most part, I think Temurra Morrison is great as Boba Fett. As a fan of the character since his appearance in Empire, I was expecting The Book of Boba Fett to take route closer to the Clone Wars Shadow Collective arc meets the Godfather.

the issue I see with the show is Disney's track record of butchering legacy characters to hype up their new characters. Mando's behavior is closer to Boba than Boba is, and it's his show! Mando's success is because of the fan perception of the Fett's, not the other way around. Don't get me wrong, I love Mando and his story, but that shouldn't come at the expense of Boba's Legacy. I was hoping in this show to see the darker/unhinged side of Boba like we got in Mando season 2. That would help differentiate him from Mando without disrespecting the character, trying to reserve judgment until the final episodes are complete and we can hopefully see Boba go all out on some Pike's.

I've heard that many of the questionable choices in the first season of the BOBF were all done by Kathleen Kennedy trying to get revenge at having the new CEO revoke much of her powers on creative control. I want to believe this is the case but I know that even the best of them can make bad choices. I want to believe that if Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni in consultation with George Lucas are given total creative control with future series and movies then Star Wars should be greater and greater with each release. I enjoyed seeing Bobba Fett riding the Rancor Beast and fighting the Pykes and then Cad Bane. But then later I thought well why didn't Bobba Fett leave the fight and go back to his palace and then bring his ship back with him? He could have turned all the Pykes into dust just like how Bobba killed that speed bike gang when he thought they were the ones who killed his Tuskin tribe family. Then I thought wow that was a cool duel between Bobba and Cad Bane but.....Cad Bane is dead??? No!!!!! He's too cool of a character! He can't be dead!! We need more of him.

Yet its extremely clean. Everyone looks clean. The mods and their weird scooter speeder things dont look like they belong anywhere in star wars let alone on tatooine, i get it thats its marketed to kids. But so were the prequels and they literally showed vader burning alive and limbs being removed every few scenes lol. Even boba fett looks too clean. Like he looked waaaay better in the originals with scratched and damaged armour
I too found it boring and lacking the star wars feel. They really need to make it more gritty and more of an adventure or im just not gonna be invested for another season. Mando was so much better, the best episode of boba fett was the mando episode.

I’m not gonna lie, but I hated the entire Book of Boba Fett. I don’t want to rain on anyone else’s parade, but these are just my two cents, so disregard me if you will. Seriously, I dislike party poopers, too. This is just my own opinion, and I will also be talking about spoilers for the last episode, so be warned.
    1. A total lack of plot. Each episode was wayyy longer than it needed to be because they had nothing to say, so they filled it with long, slow, boring scenes which were all useless. They especially had a liking for long scenes which consisted purely of characters building things, like a stick or a ship. Since the directors were all jumbled and had no idea what to do, they eventually brought in Mando to regain hype and provide a launching point for Mando S3. Also, the flashbacks were sooo incredibly painful and jam packed with useless scenes. They had Boba Fett believe in this kooky “the Tusken Raiders are the native people, so they’re righteous” kinda thing when the Tusken Raiders have been shown to be cruel, bloodthirsty murderers. They kidnapped him and beat him, and then a little while later, he says, “The Sand People took me in like one of their own.” It was laughable on so many levels.
    2. Character assassination. Remember when Darth Vader told Fett, “no disintegrations”? Now, Boba is just bumbling around being super nice to everyone and acting like a completely different person. Why?! Because God spoke to him in the desert? I think not. He’s also extremely incompetent. Why on earth is Fennec Shand calling all the shots, making the plans, and explaining stuff to him like she has decades of experience and he’s a newbie? He’s so incompetent it’s not even funny. He literally just wanders around the city with 2 Gamorreans, an older assassin, and a speeder gang. Everyone else just kinda pats him on the head and lets him believe that he’s the boss.
    3. Plot conveniences, holes, and general unintelligence. The Pykes are an intergalactic crime organization that deals spice. They have the resources to completely obliterate Boba Fett who has like 20 people on his side. They could just zoom in with a ship and shoot them up with a tactical strike. They could do anything! Yet they still lose. And WHY on earth was Bib Fortuna the crime lord on Tatooine after Jabba died? The Hutts are the most powerful crime family. They would have replaced Jabba with another Hutt, not let Bibby take over. ALSO, Boba tried to retreat back to the Palace and have the fight there, but the POWER RANGERS stopped him because they were being edgy teeny boppers, saying, “No, these are our people. We can’t abandon them.” WELL, I hate to break it to them, but because they stayed put in the town, they actually put the people MORE at risk … because the Pykes are interested only in fighting and killing Boba and his gang, not the civilians who are helpless.
    4. Bad characters. Sooo Fett started out wanting to be a crime lord then he kinda turned into the mayor of Tatooine with high and mighty preaching that “Tatooine can be prosperous,” “it’s what the people want,” and other bantha fodder. He was unintimidating to say the least. An example of a great, intimidating, powerful, calculating crime lord would be Darth Maul, WHO in about the span of a short movie, managed to subdue and conquer numerous criminal organizations and build himself a crime syndicate. Boba Fett can’t hold a candle to him. And I guess the biker gang was supposed to be cool … but they turned into incompetent Power Rangers who hung out in a dead end and let themselves be cornered.
    5. Dialogue. The dialogue in so many scenes had me laughing heartily on account of its lameness. “The lizard will guide me,” “go make baby banthas,” and “it’s not right” being some examples. It just wasn’t good … If you want examples of great dialogue, look at Clone Wars, haha.
    6. CAD BANE. They literally introduced him because Boba Fett had no one to fight. Then they had him die or at least get stabbed in the most anti-climatic way possible. They should have introduced him earlier on for Pete’s sake.
    7. Stuff that just annoyed me as a Star Wars fan. Why are there punky teens on colorful Power Ranger-esque motor bikes that look like they’re from Coruscant? Tatooine didn’t look like Tatooine at all. Everyone looked way richer, things were more colorful, and somehow people are nicer and more civilized? Last I saw of Tatooine was a rough, cruel life full of moisture farming, slavery, and death. And none of the Twi’leks had their signature French accents. In fact, it seemed like a lot of the aliens were devoid of accents, which robbed them of part of their charm. Is this some sort of PC maneuver?
    8. Mando. They basically erased Mando S2. Everything Mando worked so hard for is gone … down the drain.

Man I agree with everything you said. If you appreciate star wars the way you do, this series is just not it. It is way off in so many thing. Boba Fett didn’t feel important at all and he actually does not feel badass to me anymore. And after Mando season 2 with a very emotional goodbye to Grogu leaving Mando, they just reunite in a different series like it is nothing. Mando S3 will start with Grogu and him being together again lol. I feel like Disney does not give a shit about story telling in this universe and it hurts me :(

I don't believe it's a bad show, I just think it would be better if Boba could remain more of an anti-hero and what better way than to have him have a hint of Tony Soprano if he's going to be a crime lord. But Disney had to add too much sugar to the recipe.

The problem is they’re not showing us. He needs show he can kick ass like Mando, command people to do what he says, and be able to switch into silent leader behind the scenes when not fighting. Or he’s just another Mandalorian

I'm genuinely convinced that the Star Wars universe is going to be on Tattooine forever. No other planets. Just Tattooine. Yes, we get it. It's in the original trilogy. Yes, we get it. Anakin did pod racing there. Now can we please have something new and interesting?
