2024 June was the one of the hottest months on record. How could a newborn survive without its mother's milk for 3 days, with temperature hovering above 33°C ?
I was recently watching a gorilla troop, where a gorilla starting lactating, even though she had not been pregnant. Apparently this phenomenon is not unusual to monkeys. When I looked it up, it said that three different factors could contribute to lactation without pregnancy. It’s possible that Teeny could have tapped into any of those three things. Wouldn’t that be freaking amazing maybe it’s too much to ask for but it’s definitely not impossible and from what I read it’s not exactly rare.
I posted on the first video of Tina’s new baby. There was a study done in the US on rhesus macaques and inducing lactation. It can be done with stimulation, but works better and more often with hormone supplements that are given in their food. I’m hoping that Teeny is one of those rare ones that is producing something, or that Tina is feeding the baby at night. Even if Teenys milk has few nutrients, the liquid should help from dehydrating the baby til Tina is better.
I really should watch your video before I start leaving messages. I will get so caught up in something that it has me trying to find a solution and I can’t stop thinking about it until your next video comes. Does anyone else get the feeling that Mr. a.m. has a lot of medical knowledge? somehow I thought you would already know about this.
@@scottreich1207 it's actually happened in the past that male humans (caring for a newborn in desperate circumstances where the infant's mother had passed and the male and infant were isolated) were able to lactate for an infant after giving it their nipple, at first just as a means of comforting them somewhat. The account I have in mind was featured in a European trapper/trader's travel accounts from some time ago (18th century Pacific Northwest I think) and was the story of a First Nations man who had been the lactating male in that story.
This has also been done in humans. Women who have adopted and never gave birth, continuous stimulation will cause lactation in females who have reached maturity. There have also been rare occurrences of this happening in adult males.
yes we were taught this in our adoption classes that with stimulation you can begin to lactate, I mean there were many many years that people used wet nurses. I really wanted to try but I am on a medication that can be passed through the breastmilk so even if I had a regular birth I wouldn’t have been able to breast-feed unfortunately.
Teeny is clearly trying to help and poor Tina looks like she’s struggling a lot. 😢 I hope Tina recuperates soon and Teeny can help her little brother (I’ve been calling him Little John) make it. All things considered he doesn’t look bad but it’s early days yet
Wouldn't it be wonderful if Teeny was able to spontaneous lactation since she has come of age. We have a gorilla here in Cleveland, Ohio, USA .She is producing milk for the second time, fostering rejected gorilla babies. She has not given birth to a child in around 11 years. She started out with the first one taking him to the keeper for a bottle and after a few weeks then started producing milk.
Monkeys can produce milk if their teats are stimulated enough granted their milk will not have sufficient nutrients. At least it could be getting some fluids.
Well this baby has been nursing on her for at least a week or more. Wouldn't she cry or search each nipple if she was getting nothing I haven't been able to see if she swallowing
Primate females if nursing stimulation is applied lactation can occure as long as the female has reached a stage of maturity. The volume may start small if the female hasn't been pregnant before.
My grandma was a wet nurse and that was because she nursed my Dad until he was 6 years old. In order for a human to produce milk, they would need to take hormones for months. I don’t know about monkeys but humans need hormones to produce milk.
It's possible for teeny to lactate from stimulation so let's hope for the best. Seems like Tina has an infection down there, maybe she can she be given an antibiotic.
omg BOSSY looks like she's changed so dramatically? what is up w.her, healthy wise> her disappearing coat, facial structure? how old is she, does anyone venture a guess?
It does happen. However, it would take a lot of stimulation and time for the body to start producing the hormone that stimulates lactation. It doesn't happen overnight. Unfortunately, this baby does not have that time. If Teeny and Tina could trade off nursing, then Teeny might be able to produce in time. Poor Teeny, her nipples must be aching. That baby will be sucking as hard as he can, trying to get something out of them.
Teeny bolting off helter-skelter with her tiny brother clasped upside down, leaping up those rocks, reminded me of Kayla & her little sister Keyla after their Mum disappeared. How Kayla carried Keyla upside down & any ol' way, bashing Keyla's head against rocks & trees trying to get away from every little thing that startled her until Keyla took one too many blows, ended up brain-damaged & eventually dying. As well-intentioned as Teeny is, even if she has begun lactating a little she does not have the hormones to sustain it, nor the experience to take care of what amounts to an orphan. I just don't see that this poor little tyke has much of a future without his Mum.
I thought that it's probably teeny, it's known that they will lactate when around other pregnant monkeys. I'm indigenous and heard stories from elders that non pregnant woman will lactate when around pregnant woman.
She is obviously producing enough milk for this little baby, if she has any milk at all, then by nature of the baby suckling, her milk will come in again likely. I have a feeling she’s not gonna give this little baby back to its mother.😢
Arroz, I remember going through our adoption classes for our son and learning about an adoptive mom being able to lactate & the process. (I mean there were wet nurses) Could Teeny be doing that? I just don’t know how long it would take them to begin to lactate?
Mr AM… I’m sure this has been mentioned in the comments already but I’m going to say it anyway… A female can start to produce higher levels of prolactin in a number of different factors. One of which is heightened stress levels which maybe the case for teeny here as she has a baby suddenly placed into her car and her mother is unwell, so that’s check mark number one. Another way that prolactin can be heightened is with nipple stimulation, another thing that teeny has been experiencing with her baby brother. Given these 2 things combined, it is a proven possibility, although the chances are relatively small, Teeny could be a likely candidate for lactation without pregnancy hormones being responsible. Having said that though, I wouldn’t suggest that anybody should go ahead and just assume this will be the case and have that stop the efforts of helping this baby receive nutrients and fluids but think of it as a possible answer to the mystery of how this baby may have battled through so well. You and monkeys inc together are forming an awesome team!! KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK ❤
What, Bessy's baby is of Lancy's grand-daughters? Is that through the paternal line? I forget, is it Lowry that's the 1rst or 2nd alpha - I can't recall if Barry was still the interim alpha - and was Lowry one of Lancy's firstborn sons? If so, that grandaughter would still be officially aligned with Bossy though, since it's the maternal lineage that matters most, I'd have thought. I'm also trying to recall what happened to Taggy... is he still around?
I’m guessing with the dilution of the milk tossed on Teeny was cow milk? Goat milk with pumpkin purée is best. As goat milk is thick and the pumpkin is a natural probiotic. I even posted this during Teensy’s time. Cow milk is not good for infants. I remember him trying to condition Teeny during that time. Not sure why it was not continued after her passing as this currently was inevitable. Possibly a simple foraging device as simple as honey on the outside of a toilet paper roll with peanut butter and nuts on the inside could be a start. Primates are very sensitive to texture and it’s possible her being more concerned about the honey on her hands could have worked. Either way, hopefully they start working with her now as this will happen again.
I think she is lactating constant feeding on the breast will help her milk glads produce milk even though she isn't pregnant or given birth recently.it may not be a big supply of milk but it's the same as human women if they start to pump they can start to produce milk u ever herd of wet nurses back in the day
Wet nurses back in the day were women who had given birth to their own baby and then fed other babies. In order for a human female to start producing milk, she needs to have the right hormones in her body.
I don’t know all, he’s not looking very good to me. He’s showing signs of dehydration in my mind. I hope I’m wrong but he’s looking pretty lethargic and his skin is getting pretty wrinkly. Not very elastic. I really hope he makes it but I’m not getting my hopes up….
Everyone is so worried for Tina's baby. Nobody thinks of Bessie. Her track record is no better and she has healthy faculties to provide for her babies and has been part of our troop from the very start
@philbert006 yes but many of us, and I am definitely am one, are very vested and concerned about Tina's babies having watched Tiny and Teeny's struggle to just survive and then finally thrive as the got big enough to forage and feed themselves.
