THANK YOU for the videos. keep them coming!
these lessons are amazing. I am new with motorcycles because i got license for 125cc bikes about half year ago. i have done some basic things like riding in sand and little hills but i have not thinked about balance so much. I think I am going to start doing this tomorrow. Keep up the good work.

this is something that i've been trying to do more of lately, thanks to your videos. really slow, trying to almost stop and balance in the rougher terrain. it's quite enjoyable really
65elcamino283 it doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally we'll get over a big log, land in rocks but still balance at a standstill for a few seconds then move off.... excellent! it's something i was amazed at when watching the trials riders at first but then gradually started to do the same thing - occasionally. :)
CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES totally! i am at awe when the trials guys are at a standstill, then completely spring up a giant obstacle to land on top of it at a dead stop...then hop off that giant obstacle to land at a dead stop.....are you friggin kidding me!? they make it look so damn easy! at my current skill level, i am happy when i can come to a stop at the base of an obstacle (small outcrop of rock mind you...and i mean small) then controlledly ride over it, then halt on the other side, using my legs stretching out to balance when needed like in your videos. that has transformed my riding abilities. no joke. rough downhill terrain that i would have said "HELL NO" to before-envisioning myself losing controll and barrelling downhill to my demise, i am now plodding down excitedly-but slooowly mind you-with confidence. :-))
You guys make this looks so easy. It's not fair. At first I couldnt balance longer than half a second, just long enough to get my feet on the pegs. Now, I can only balance for, at most, 5 seconds before the bike starts to topple, and I have to hop down. Even that is rare. I've been doing it at a stand still, though with full lock. It is so incredibly fatiguing. I have to bring a can of coke because after about 10 min of balancing practice, I'm too tired to ride home. I'm going to try switching to super slow riding instead next weekend. See if I'm more successful. I've tried it in the past, but I always stall the engine. Maybe, I'll go for higher revs. Thanks for these video. They are super helpful.
+aseredy 10 minutes is along time to practice balancing, i'm tired after one minute! it can help a lot at the start to let your tyre pressure down to 4psi or even less, also point down a gentle slope so the weight is more on the front. it's a very handy skill to have in the tough terrain. :)
if you have trouble keeping revs up maybe your idle is too low, if not practice by going to a local farm and politely asking to tail their cattle, slowly, jersey and dairy cattle are best
I'm new to dirt biking and these videos have been incredible. I have been mountain biking for 22 years though, including some DH stuff with my recent focus on enduro mtn biking. A lot of the balance techniques, looking forward and body positioning relevant to that flavor of mtn biking can directly be transferred to enduro dirt biking (especially feeling comfortable going down steep gnarly downhills) and makes for good practice when I can't be on my KTM. Added bonus, I can ride my mountain bike around my property without pissing my neighbors off. Interesting tid bit: One can buy a brand new KTM, Husky, Beta, etc. dirt bike for LESS money than a brand new carbon framed, high end enduro mountain bike, some of which are now exceeding $10,000. E.g. Yeti SB6 Carbon XX1: $11,600
when sam joined us last year we were blown away at how fast he was learning to ride a dirt bike, then found out months later he was a very good enduro mountain bike rider already. now he doesn't impress us at all! :)
somthing i learned from bull riding : practice balancing on a basketball. see if you can do a minute. the muscles used here are also the ones used to clench the bike with your legs and knees
I watched this years ago and it helped me.. This year I have been teaching my son to ride his CRF70. There is a lot of rock where we ride, so he is going slow and learning. I follow while couching on our headsets. During this I am forced to ride slow (very slow). In fact the only riding I did this year was with him. There is no way I would ever go this slow all day if not for my son. I was am doing something I love with my son so it was all good. Remembering this video I tried to stand as much as I could and really focused on balance. This past weekend I had a chance to lead on some single track while others where hanging back with my son. All of that slow riding brought me to a new level. I was way faster. Spot on advice in this video!
People really under look balancing when learning I think, even though it's the most important skill you will learn off road. It's the main reason why I am able to ride my XR650L with no issues, even though I can only touch the ground with one foot when stopped lol Great video!
thanks grant. taken a few people out recently and started the dirt ride with some balancing, figure eights and tips on body positioning. amazing to see how quickly it made a difference to their riding in technical terrain.
we had play days get together we had slow race would be about 10 of us about 500 feet last one across the line wins but half way would have to wheelie over 45 galon drum then carry spoon in your mouth with egg my friend lynn could stop his tl250 and climb on to front fender and back on to his seat and he always won i was second or third that is how cool it was now 40 years later you are showing the world the most techincal and physical demanding sport on this planet and you dont need 8 other people to help you put a ball in a net that is 7 feet wide now top people have mechanic gj try to go between two trees 29 inches at 40 miles an hour with 33 inche bars your pegs have to be on swing arm pivot then 29 degrees or less rake on steering i could go on but i wont thanks dennis mcnutts
+guyguypiepie1234 the old cable clutch would give your left hand a good workout but otherwise old bikes are all good for learning balancing on.... especially if you let some air out of the tyres :)
I can apply so fucking much from horsesports to this kind of riding, trust me, when you can stay on in a full buck in a flat saddle this is childsplay.
@@crosstrainingenduro Allright, thanks! I have a four-stroke... I've seen some mounting extra fan to pull air thru the radiator.. Seems like a good idea.
@@maikelnait4495 My buddy mounted a fan to his radiator. It works great, but can be annoying when you're stopped. The fan is set to turn on at a certain temperature, so once it hits that temp it will kick on and make a bunch of noise. Then shut off for 10 or 20 seconds until it heats up again, then it kicks on again. It can be annoying, but better than damaging your bike. He says it was easy to hook up too.
@@t60six87 Ok, thanks a lot for the help. I mounted a fan a week ago and so far so good. But as I said I'm a beginner and don't really do so technical stuff yet so it cools ok still.
I'm new to riding, I've had my DT 125 for a few months and I tried doing these balancing techniques but my engine's always about to shut off. I tried to hold in the clutch and engage the throttle lightly but it always ends up revving up to much. Might be a dumb question but I'm new. What exactly am I supposed to do with my throttle and clutch to be able to stay at a standstill and only move forwards a little when I'm about to fall?
+CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS - I need your help :) I'm practicing my balancing on my 125 2T and because of the slow speed I'm riding when practicing balancing and more stuff you show in your videos, my spark plugs are fouling. My oil ratio is 2% so I think it too much rich for that kind of riding. I can go to 1.7% but then I need to adjust my oil ratio each time I'm changing my riding style even though it is on the same ride (say I'm practicing on slow speeds for 30 min and then I'm riding faster with high revs). How do I find the sweet spot of being able to practice slow and not kill my spark plug? :)
idriwzrd that's a really interesting point... one of our riders is heavy but very fit and strong and its incredible watching him flick his bike mid air. i think extra weight helps but only if fit and already having good technique? be interested to put this on a forum and see what others think.
not really sure, none of us are professional trainers or the like. but we all just incorporate it into our rides... whenever we stop somewhere we try to balance as long as we can. never gets boring that way! trials riding though, we'd always warm up with a few minutes of balancing, then of course it happens all the time during the ride. hope that helps...
it's harder but can be done. i can balance at a standstill on the DR but it's more difficult. a good trials rider can even balance a road bike at a standstill.
