+TheAventadorSV I have owned all 3 and I would say that BMW is the best all round of the lot. Mercedes shares parts with crap car manufactures , so that says a lot about them and Audi is a luxury VW. So in my opinion all three goes to BMW and they are second to none for innovation , style and a drivers car. Thats only my view after 33 years of being a petrolhead.
Paul Samartzis Well it would also depend on the exact cars you've owned as well. Im talking about the current models more specifically The C-Class, 3-series and A4.I could believe that the older Mercedes have shared parts with crappier manufacturers but the current model it doesn't seem that way.

For those who hate bmw for putting inline 6 instead of v8, there is no reason for bmw to put v8 in their cars when their inline 6s with turbo make more hp and torque while achieving better gas mileage and emission(which matters for european countries). Additionally, Inline 6's has been the go-to bmw engine for a long time. Inline6+turbo is lighter on the nose as well for those who really care about handling. It is also silky smooth.
I, too, used to dislike the fact that v8 was gone because of their throaty sound! but now I appreciate their decision. Its sound reminds me of earlier bmw's. Inline6's are what bmw has been killing the market with ever since.

It sounds great inside the car. Outside the car is debatable.
However, I appreciate the low key exhaust note, as it allows me to fly by pigshit cops while their head is turned and they don't even notice. Try that in a raspy V8, which yells out "heeeere piggy piggy piggy... heeeeere piggy piggy" in a 2 mile radius everywhere the fucking thing is driven. That's a ticket magnet for speeders like myself.
sorry if you stated this, but what exactly are the upgrades to the car? I'm assuming mostly dinan parts? exhaust, ecu tune, what else?

Stock exhaust only seems quiet if you're sitting inside with the windows closed. Active Sound is to counter sound dampening in the cabin not exhaust.
You were underwhelmed with the power of the stock M4 possibly because you did not turn off traction control or at-least put it in MDM mode. I had the same issue when i got my car, but i realized that only a fraction of the power is available when stability control is on. It's easy to overlook this since you get no indication in the dash that you are not getting full power (like you normally do with a blinking traction light).
We just need a pure driving video about this car. Sounds amazing!

Those are fine for shitards that live 2 miles from their job at the corner mini mart, or for the ultra wealthy that like laundering their money to arabs through the gas pump. For my 65 mile-a-day daily driver, i'll take my 16 M3 and its 30 mpg hwy over a v8. Oh and yeah, the added benefit of not announcing my location to every pigshit cop in a two mile radius every time I get on it is awesome.
I think I prefer the significant low end torque increase over the high revving v8 and the more useable real world performance that comes with it.
why would you recommend the worse transmission (manual) over the much better one (DCT)?
On the next generation of M3/M4 BMW should bring back the V8. They should also bring back the V10 on the M5/M6 and leave twin turbo inline 6's for the M2.

BMW, this is why i love you so much. Inline 6 twin turbo and simple but functioning interior and a smile on every driver. I just wish the cost of owning one was not so high. :(
If u ask me, interiors on this car are not outdated, but more like: you dont have full dashboard of things that you never use. BMW is clever. They keep it simple. Just my opinion and I am pretty sure I will get this car when I get hold on some money.
glad youve changed your opinion about the car, and im glad bmw didnt screw it up. the marketing guys are putting it in a new direction and the governmental regulations are getting much more strict, but the genius bmw engineers are still finding a way to produce their amazing cars despite all the new rules and things getting in the way

The noise stock is ehh, but with these upgrades all around with this exhaust its awesome!
love this car but just can not justify the cost for what you get in my opinion. I really do like as all auto makers are reducing there engine sizes to go turbo/supercharged. Eventually having something just straight NA will be a thing of the past.
if only the wheels were gloss black. then oh man! i also wish they left the calipers orange and i dont like the matching trim inside the car. Small things just to make it my own. I want one!
Ive owned a e 46. A e 90 and the the m4 as my daily driver and the m4 is by far my favorite. I chose to go alpine white with the black seats with the dct transmission and the 19 inch wheel pack . I tell if u hesitate buying one of these dont !!

I'd take the E92 M3 over this, any dayy. But the M4 is nice. Love how the owner modded this one. The colours are amazing, and some sexy wheels.
For the price of a M4 you can buy a way better car in the Shelby GT350/GT350R and throw in some mods.
They don't make performance M cars like they used to.
I love the M4, but it just looks so damn big! Thankfully there's an M2 coming out next year to fix that. Can't wait for that one. I think the M2 will be the successor to the E46 M3, whereas the M4 follows more in the footsteps of the E92 M3.
I personally love the new M models. Its a new generation, of course some of the old heads will stick to the older models and despise the new ones but thats okay. BMW is still leading the competition IMO.

+Original nutter Yep. I believe the standard front calipers are 4 piston and they only use 6 piston calipers when equipped with the carbon brakes. The ones in the video are definitely 6 piston calipers.

+scanspeak00 Sometimes simplicity is the greatest form of art. I personally _love_ it. Simple, but has essential things to it. Great steering wheel, amazing seats, great feeling paddles (in reference to the video) and a nice sound system. Doesn't need fold away screens like Chevrolet and Audi, doesn't need underglow in the interior panels like Mercedes, and isn't busy like some Ford cars. It's driver focused and that's all I could really ask for from BMW. They absolutely hit the nail on the head with the M4.

You're always so fixated on exhaust noise. I agree that a pleasing exhaust note is desirable, but I rather it be in the background and not focused on. Having a near silent cockpit adds to the driving experience sometimes, especially if you are wanting to get lost into some tunes.
+Thor Mcgee Exactly. I like a mellow increase in exhaust noise in the cabin but not drone or anything like that. It's always nice when even a performance car is quiet when you need it to be and wild when you want it to be.

The only time I'd EVER again in life consider a manual anything is if I lived in hicktown USA, where the roads among the cornfields are miles and miles long, and the weather is good, and there's almost no traffic lights.
I live in the exact opposite extreme of that environment, and a manual would be a nightmare. That plus the fact that I don't have a phallic obsession and need to feel a cocklike shifter knob in my hand all the time while I'm driving.
+TasteMyStinkhole even then my preference is a DCT/DSG/PDK. It never gets boring on country roads - the benefits actually begin to appear. Manuals made sense when the cars were not filled with computers. Luckily an affordable manual can be found in many places.

+TasteMyStinkhole it's not about the clutch pedal. It's about the "feel". Dual-clutches feel like a motorcycle transmission without the inherent downsides of single-clutch automated or sequential manuals. The Cayman GTS has a nice manual, especially with Sport Chrono.
+Joel deSanto I don't know why this car would be different than any other car in this case. No, a 6MT transmission greatly improves the driving experience in any car, whether it be a sports car, 18-wheeler, eco-car, or bike. The majority would agree with me, unless you ask people in the USA who see vehicles as simply tools in order to get from point A to point B. Even in Los Angeles, I prefer a manual. Much easier in traffic than an automatic, because the transmission can be placed in first gear and only the gas pedal needs to be used.
Only thing wrong with this is turbocharger but that is the future no denying it
