Problem with a turbo is low boost won't give enough power boost for cost/complexity and high boost will cause low mileage engine death. They need to add better oil filtering / oil catch cans from factory to prevent valve gunkification and that would be magnified with FI.
Working for Nissan since 2011 I really wish they would be first and not be last to do everything. Be a pioneer. They follow everyone else instead of leading from the front. Stuck in the 80’s. I hope they can survive long enough for my work career with them.
First mini truck in America. First small extended cab . First long bed. First V6 in a Japanese truck. First true Japanese sports car. First sporty sedan to rival European ones at a better price. First Japanese supercar to whoop on the 911 on German turf. First variable compression engine. First extended cab compact truck with seats in the back. First double wall bed. Oh, and beat Toyota to the punch with rear discs. I am not sure why you think Nissan is following anybody. They did make a concession to make the screen bigger in Frontier, but that is a big deal to comparison shoppers. One way Nissan ISNT following is thst they are keeping many ANALOG controls and instruments, which means a lot to those of us who buy Nissan for longevity, which it is famous for. I have a Hardbody I bought used in 1995, and here it is on the job 30 years out. Have you seen the Million Mile Frontier on TFL truck channel? Nissan gave the guy a new one! I don't know what job you do at Nissan, but you surely need a history refresher. Nissan has pioneered many things. They also tend to design ahead of their time, then stretch a successful platform out over a long run, such as the platform the Frontier uses. Obviously, it's as good as the newer competitors, and outlasted many a rusted out Tacoma frame. See what I'm saying? Just because Nissan is a little contrarian, and doesn't change direction to follow each trend, does not make them bad. Look at the new Toyotas and all their big issues. Try embracing what your employer does and you might appreciate them more. Nissan has always given strong value in their stuff. It's too bad many fickle American sheeple with the instant gratification mindset and love of gimmicks and trends don't do actual research, but I think it's turning. The recent Toyota fiascoes are even driving fanboys to try Nissan. Now push this internally: MANY want a new SUV (X TERRA etc) based on the Frontier and many would love a full-on Nismo off-road specialist Frontier! These would sell like HOTCAKES right now. Nobody wants turbo 4 bangers and screens that eliminate hand control buttons. Tell them to make it kick butt on the Tacoma and Gladiator and they will have customers begging for them. Lift, tires, sway bar disconnects, maybe optional front locking diff. Guaranteed to make Frontier a #1 seller. And keep those 3 Mail slots on the hood. That's instant heritage that we all know

So as an insider, what is so 80s about Nissan?
I did hear a 12” screen was coming. Looks like I’ll have to wait for the 2025 before I buy. The 2024 Pro 4x is right around 39k in my area …hopefully the 25’s come in at the same price
I just bought a 2024 pro -X for $5500 under MSRP. Considering that you will not be getting that discount and prices will increase, I hope paying north of $7,000 is worth that 12 inch screen because it makes a truck work so much better.
If it's a Pro4X it's a huge disappointment that they didn't give it more ground clearance. I hope this is a 2wd model and the Pro4X will have a 2'' factory lift to have more ground clearance to compete with the competition.
If you're reading on your hone this will be very long. Other than the Chevy ZR2 which is the first Colorado model with a selectable locker the Frontier PRO4X matches or exceeds all it's competition from a ground clearance point of view. And the ZR2 is trying for Raptor class performance so it's not really an apples to apples comparison. The Chevy Trail Boss has the G80 locker so we'll use that as as close to a starting point as we can. It has a listed 9.5" of ground clearance though the location of this measurement isn't specified. The Ford Ranger FX4 which has a selectable rare locker like the NIssan clocks in with 9.3" of ground clearance. Of course, Toyota took a page out of Chevy's Bison marketing handbook and didn't tell the whole truth about their ground clearance number as they claim a "maximum" ground clearance of 11" Just like Chevy goes from specifying 10.8" of clearance under the front and rear of the ZR2 to claiming a maximum of 12.2" of clearance for the Bison. But what about the Frontier? The PRO4X has a stated 9.5" of clearance under the front diff and 9.8" of clearance under the rear diff. So the same as Chevy's closest real competitor in the Trail Boss, more than the Ford and I'll bet you the same as the Toyota if Toyota hadn't gone from selling reality to selling marketing hype. The Nissan, the Trail Boss and The TRD Off Road all use 31.6" tires and have a solid rear axle. Since you only gain clearance under a solid axle with increased tire size all three brands will be separated in ground clearance by the diameter of the diff housing. The Chevy's seems to be about 3 tenths of an inch deeper than the Nissan's so the slight decrease in clearance. But does anyone think the Toyota's diff is 1.2" shallower than the Chevy's or the Nissan's? Not a chance. I'd wager if you put a tape on it from level ground The Toyota would be sitting right in that 9.5" to 9.8" range. Where they measured clearance under the front of the truck to arrive at the 11" number is anyone's guess but I'm betting to the parts that matter it's less than 11". Anyway. Minimum ground clearance is what matters and the PRO4X is the same as it competition or a little better. A lift won't make a difference unless it allows larger tires. And a small leveling kit with new UCA (because, Nissan) will allow the same size tires as the ZR2 at 285/70/17 or 32.7" giving you approximately .5" more minimum ground clearance so 10.3" under the rear diff. Makes you wonder how Chevy gets that 10.8" number under the ZR2 since the axle is the same as on every other Colorado. These so called review channels who have access to all these trucks never actually measure anything so we're left to go off specs which are often the fantasy land of the marketing department. By the way, the Bison does not have 12.2" of minimum ground clearance but, hey, other than RUclipsrs making content for profit off a loaner vehicle no one is pushing these things far enough for it to matter anyway.

Nissan is doing what used to be done by Toyota to develop a reliability reputation. They make small incremental changes and only use technology that has been well tested with all the bugs worked out. Toyota turbos, no thanks. Building in Mexico where workers get 1/6 the wage of an American worker all while jacking up prices over $10k, no thanks. Detuning the engine because it has too much torque for the transfer case, no thanks. The 2025 Nissan refresh does not include much for the $5-7k it will cost in price increases and less dealing over a 2024. I suggest looking at the 2024s while there are still some left.
They need to put wider fenders on the PRO-4X to differentiate it more from the other trim levels.
💯
Would be nice if they brought an extended cab Pro4X to the States like they do in Canada.

You sorta get that with the ProX trim
Nothing wrong with the design of Nissan trucks, they can get a boost from offering more standard packaging from there 4x4s & 2 wheel Drives!!
Please add a telescoping steering wheel, better infotainment screen, fully digital dash.

It needs a factory 2 inch lift like the Colorado trail boss
Pro4x is an inch taller vs lower trims but we agree 2” would be better
Yes if not 2.5 to 3!!!
Does it have tighter steering? Same position for rear shock mounts.
Same hydraulic system
