I heard In My Life, the first time, in the newly-created Music section of Woolworth's Five-and-Dime, in December, 1964. Woolworth had remodeled an area at the back of the store, to sell Beatles' records, mostly. Woolworth's was like that, a lunch counter in the front, a music section in the back, a mile of cheap toys, knick-knacks, and tchotchkes in between, crammed into a corner store. I heard most of Rubber Soul, just hanging around, listening to older kids talk about music. I was 16, beginning to feel immortal, I could see myself jaded, someday, ready to put away my Bondian escapades, settle down with the right woman. Probably when I was old, you know, thirty, maybe. The little old band that could, and did, made significant changes to the world we take for granted. Their sassiness, suave, hip appearance, and incredible talent came at a time when everybody was looking for the next big thing, music. Hollywood was moribund and vacant, making Beach Blanket movies, for the drive-in trade, with fake teen idols, chosen for looks, more than musical talent. The times were ripe for change. The Fab Four changed everything about it, top to bottom, side to side. The early days were rough and tumble, but it's a machine, now, a la Pink Floyd, these days. It wasn't one good srlection , because there are several songs unknown for all people like the numbers :38,35,36,37 32,31,30,28,,26,25,23,18 and 2 . Withal faulted songs like : -A little help of my friend ; -Hellow,Goodbye ; -Twist and Shout . Anyway more less thirty five were famouses.
