    The way she says “We get accusations like this all the time, one or two a week” so calmly and acts like it’s a normal thing and does nothing to change this made me so mad and it’s the reality. People in charge who can actually do something does nothing when they should take responsibility. This movie is brilliant

      there is a documentary called "the hunting ground", released a few years ago, which is about various American colleges covering up rapes happening on their campuses. and they all say the same thing, the same words: "we take these accusations VERY SERIOUSLY" except they almost invariably protect the perpetrators, and the victims pretty much never get any justice, instead they are libeled as liars and attention-seeking. It makes me so furious. Usually the people in charge do nothing because they don't want their college to be linked to a rape case in the press, because then nobody would apply to study there. Or they don't want to loose tenure, or their job. And that makes them part of the problem! I mean, as a woman I'd much rather study in a university where I know I'd be protected and have support in the events that I am assaulted than in one where there have been many cases of rape but the uni tries to conceal it and doesn't take any action against the perpetrator and instead protects them! sorry for the long paragraph, I think you are right, and I also loved the movie

    • @-sep7684
      @-sep7684 4 years ago +8

      @mattieblackeyes957 You are so right! Instead of taking action and preventing future crimes, they are creating more victims. I will definitely check the documentary out, thank you. I hope somethings would change and we can create a safer place for the future generations.

    I love how the revenge in this movie is more psychological than physical.

    • @notcompletelynormal
      @notcompletelynormal 4 years ago +86

      Because it’s a movie about a woman’s revenge actually written by a woman. We know that actually going about avenging trauma by defeating all our foes physically, while in a female body, is a delusional plan.

      This is incredibly true. No one cares about the experiences that a random girl will go through. “She was drinking with a bunch of guy friends. She put herself through that.” But god forbid it happens to their daughters... it’s different..

    The depressing thing is that EVERY adult woman I know has experienced the oppression so eloquently outlined in this film and that you can’t win against a system rigged against women. Heaven forbid the man/guy/boy be removed their opportunity of promise while women are left with the tatters of these experiences.

    I just noticed that her real name is Cassandra, which may be a reference to the prophet from Greek mythology and her plight (after being cursed by Apollo and then brutally raped by Ajax). Specially during the scene in which Dean Walker admits to Cassie that she's right.
    Also, Nina might refer to "niña" ("girl" in Spanish), alluding to the fact that the character could represent every girl that has been through such trauma.

    “Toxic” was a perfect fit for the movie. Their cheeky use of the song is brilliant and very well thought out, in that Britney’s career was built on the exploiting and sexualization of her “virgin” image. Another great example of a young woman’s innocence being taken away and society turning a blind eye to it.

    I also want to know if the act of putting her chewed gum wad on the underside of the fancy desk as she stood up was scripted or adlibbed. This action is basically the new "dusting the ashes of your cigarette" onto something that is unjust. After watching this scene, the fancy desk to me represents one of those pillars of oppression that was highlighted in 80s movies, ie "sexual transactions for opportunities under a desk of authority."

    I love that anytime someone calls Cassie crazy she simply responds with “No.”
    Like it’s so simple yet so impactful because as women, we are often called crazy or overly emotional, even when we’re being perfectly rational. And I just love that Cassie doesn’t explain herself because often times we as women have to explain why we’re not being crazy and instead just says “No.”. It’s some thing I’ve started doing in my life in general. A horrible situation happened at work the other day and I Deescalated it by simply going No. and standing firm until the other person calmed down and stopped shouting.
    This movie was amazing and so bittersweet.

    • @mount_fuji_edits
      @mount_fuji_edits 4 years ago

      @aryamishra4872 that's the thing girl, you think a movie to be good you have to relate? Parasite was an extremely well done movie, a lot of people were saying it wasn't a masterpiece when they won Best movie, but artistacally it was one of the best movies I seem last year, so it was a total masterpiece, when you have to present a social problem, like in this case they presented poverty, they did it really well, good dialogues, good acting, good camera directing and I could go on. I mean this movie is good, entertainment, it sends out a message, but do you even know what "artistically" means? Oscars is all about masterpiece, this movie ain't a Masterpiece, just so you know I'm aiming to be a filmmaker and if I tell you this, this movie shouldn't even be nominated at all, it have a weak original screenplay, the dialogues were weak compared to the other movies that were nominated, the acting of the girl is really well done but it wasn't for her, no one believes she is 30 years old, that was a bad choice from casting director. If I was a woman yo have to say anything back, unfortunately I'm not, but it is a little bit disrespectful that you assume that I'm a man because I didn't like this movie, I know many men that loved this movie, but I also know, but I also know of women that knows how to analyze a film that didn't like this movie. The problem ain't the topic , the problem is how they decided to execute the movie, with all due respect, have a nice day.

    The worst part in this scene is when the dean said that Nina was drinking too much and might have remembered it differently or forgotten somethings.
    That reminded me that in the old days male deans should say "boys being boys" but with a female dean she says "she drank too much, she asked for it, her skirt was too short, or she was flirting too much"
    Please keep in mind this is not based on female deans it's just an example

    This movie is amazing, Cassie is like Nemesis, the goddess of Divine Retribution, Revenge and Justice. The literal inspiration for Lady Justice, she isn't cruel or evil; she is only Fair, no more no less one way or the either. The punishment fits the crime and all the other bs is nothing but excuses that has no business even being bothered with. Love this movie!!!

    The candy and the one rainbow hairstyle she has in the movie remind my of Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey. I love Margot Robbie and that she worked on this too. A compilation of all the easter eggs and hidden meanings would be amazing.

    Well I can't unsee this moment just like I couldn't unsee the moment I saw something at a graduation party in 1981 . Here's the shortest version since I'm here .
    I wasn't a party animal or extroverted , my friends were , including my best friend who brought me with him to this party . I hadn't graduated with my class but there I was like a wallflower . The guy throwing the party .... whose name I will state ..... came from a family known for being 'pillars' of the community . His name was/is Benji Seville . I sat alone at a dining room table while mostly guys came and went . An hour goes by and my friend comes over and whispers "come here , you gotta see this"
    Down a long dark hallway we go until reaching a bedroom with the door wide open . Before going in , Benji passes by us laughing and saying who's turn and staggers off . My eyes still haven't adjusted but my friends whispering "dude check it out" . So I lean over to see a completely nude red headed girl , that I know didn't graduate because she's barely a freshman . Before I can react my friend tells me she's been there all afternoon before the party got started , and that Benji had gotten her plastered . Once the party got going literally every guy that showed up had already ........ violated her . In that moment I instantly loathed my very best friend . I walked out and walked home which was the absolute farthest neighborhood from this one .... and I cried . The girl survived this and of course gave birth to a child which she raised . But I could never forgive my friend , and often wished death on Benji ..... the slimyest lowest human I know

    Emerald is so right. It is easy to be a female predator of female prey. That's how lots of trafficking victims get drawn into the darkness. The female predator portrays herself as an ally. Someone who is there to help and save you. They pick women who are in vulnerable situations and who really need to have someone on your side. As women, we cannot believe that another woman who is sympathetic towards us would betray us. It's a sick world.

    People forget that this shit still exists. It's shunned to say you're a feminist, support women, or acknowledge these issues. ...Just think, kids. If you play your cards right, you can still become a Supreme Court justice!
