- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- This tutorial will go over some uses of the Narrator, a free built- in text-to-speech reader for Windows 10. The Ease of Access Center (or Accessibility tools) has been included in many prior versions of Windows 10 offer assistance to those who are visually or hearing impaired. In this tutorial, I will go over the Narrator tool on a Windows 10 device. A similar function exists in Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 as well.
Description From Microsoft's website:
Narrator reads text on your PC screen aloud and describes events, such as notifications or calendar appointments, so you can use your PC without a display.
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba,Lenovo, and Samsung).

I thought I accidentally clicked on a Daily Dose of Internet video, at first, because of the "Hello, everyone" haha
Same here lol
But why can't I get it to read documents to me for example word or google docs? That's what I really need it for.
exactly!!!
I'm going insane over it! why can't it be like the android one that read you only what you want it to read
send Microsoft feedback about this issue. Android has screen reader that can do this so it's not impossible at all.
totally blind people are of course important and deserve accessibility, but other disabilities exists as well and we deserve accessibility as well. we paid for the computer as well
narrator voice is not working in windows 10
help on this
thanks for making this video.
My pleasure!
Do you know if it is possible to select text and hit a key command to speak that selected text like on appletosh?
richardsaddress id like to know as well
Hi there,
Please try this. Start Narrator->Select some text->Hit Caps Lock plus M. I'm no expert in this but I managed to get it to read some text in MS word for example.
I also have the same question
it's a narrator. you don't even have to select text to make it read the content. I use nvda, because im visual impaired. I know this video is not even scratching the surface of what narrator can. btw, it's in the name it's narrate the content on your screen mate. if you press the caps and f1 key you can get a list of all narrator commands.
Caps + D
All I wanted to do is have windows help me to read some boring text in a PDF book. This tutorial, unfortunately is as useless as the program. I can't imagine anyone with the patients to wade through the steps necessary to achieve this simple task. I'm just going to freeware to DL a text reader and I know I'll have success well before I could even begin to figure this mess out. Thanks for the confusion Microsoft, you've done it again, and again . . .
I 100% agree with you, this feature is so useless and hard to use that there's really no point in putting in the effort.
@@TS-nm3yx Yes it is. How hard is it to make something like this work? Microsoft dominates the market and puts out this sh*t guaranteeing it will never get better for years.
Just because the tutorial did not address your specific needs does not make it useless. A lot of effort was put into this, and I find it quite useful.
@@OluwadiyaKehinde you may be right.... but it is frustrating the narrator is so dumb it cannot read selected text in Word or PDF documents......ridiculous
Narrator is annoying, rather use Talkie addon for firefox and Zabaware Text-to-Speech Reader if you want to read documents on desktop. If u use different browser like Chrome just type in TTS addon and it will find something for Chrome too.
Hi, thank you for the info and many good tips!
Do you know if Narrator can switch automatically from english to french if both languages appear in a text on the same page ?
I’m teaching french to an english speaking student who became blind recently so we are looking for solutions for him.
Thanks again!
What the hell was that? You neglected to inform us how to get the thing to read text like emails and miscellaneous paragraphs. It appeared as if you had no clue what you were doing. Best not to post tutorials unless you're 100% familiar with the program. I wasted 5 minutes watching your confusing nonsensical video and another 5 writing this comment. No, you did not help me. You did, however, manage to induce even more frustration.
How tf fo you turn READ ALOUD OFF not fuckin NARRATOR! Why tf does it keep tellin me shit about NARRATOR!...
READ ALOUD ....NARRATOR
Helpful for my dyslexia too, for me I only turned on the first button, then I can use ctrl + windows key+ enter. to turn it on and off, as I don't need it permanently on.
how do you read an article on the page with other wording you dont want read out on the sides?
question, how do you do a video like this with voice over and being in control of screen? Thanks for the help!
You need screen recorder and mic.
@@digdeep28 if you don't like your voice in a video there are Apps that will change your voice along with a screen recorder and you need a microphone
I'd hoped for instruction on how to use Windows Narrator. This video only shows how to enable it.
Narrator is annoying, rather use Talkie addon for firefox and Zabaware Text-to-Speech Reader if you want to read documents on desktop. If u use different browser like Chrome just type in TTS addon and it will find something for Chrome too.
Would this work on subtitles on films?
Thank you for putting this together. And I don't know if you don't know how to help but I thought I would try describing the issue.
I don't think I have said this in a way that explains it well. -I think that because in all of my searches, I still keep getting information about using the "narrator key" plus some other keys in order to have it read the text I wanted to read.
I have narrator set up but I can't get it to read my PDF or my email or any thing other than everything on the top and sides. I can't hover over what I want it to read and it will read it. It won't let me direct it to what I want it to read.
. It's reading every single thing on the screen and even when I somehow press the table to get the blue box to get it to switch from the side of the screen to what I actually want it to read, it won't read what's inside the blue box. I know how to get rid of the blue box. Without the blue box I still can't get it to read the words in my document.
I have taken the tutorials and I toggled on and off all the various options and I've been trying for months. I try and try and then stop and then try again. I have too much pain in my neck for me to use my arms and hands without it actually disabling me.
One of the problems is, a lot of the instructions tell me to press the narrator key plus all of these other keys
but I don't have a narrator key. I have three keys I can press together to turn the narrator on or off or I can go into the accessibility place and turn narrator off.
Do you have any ideas for how I can turn narrator on, click or hover somewhere and then have narrator read, starting then? I have a 100 page document and I would like to read at page 70, rather from the beginning. And then I want to be able to go to page 30 and read for 20 pages and then go back to the beginning and then go to page 70... For example.
Any ideas?✨
It's off but it's still playing. How do I get it off.
I'm not visually impaired or have any problems using my computer's visual UI.
I just read really slowly, so when I study I ike having my textbooks in live text PDF format, or just text documents, highlight the text, and have the computer read it to me.
How do I do that? On Mac it was super easy to set up... but this... is just a hot mess! I don't need Narrator to read out every single thing I mouse-over. I only need it to read highlighted text upon my command (on Mac I highlighted text and hit ctrl-alt-s). This mouse-over narration would have been acceptable if it wasn't for the fact that when I go into my text document, live text pdf, etc, all Narrator does is to read the document name, and nothing else.
How do I get narrator to read a whole paragraph? it stops at the end of a line!
Rather use Talkie addon for firefox and Zabaware Text-to-Speech Reader if you want to read documents on desktop. If u use different browser like Chrome just type in TTS addon and it will find something for Chrome too.
Actually, I think this is a good lesson for the rest of the world about what we the visually impaired go through to live in this world. Personally, I have to use text to speech on almost every device that I have. This video was only a little over 5 minutes long and the channel host was already losing his mind. Lol. However, the problem that he was experiencing is actually easily fixable. I call this problem digital tourette syndrome. When the voice narrator endlessly babbles on to no end. When one experiences this problem all you really have to do is press the control key and it silences the voice. It is quite difficult to do a tutorial on an application when you don't understand even it's basic functions. This kind of looks like a video for the sake of making a video. There are far too many things left out.
I have a question about a T to S machine you might be able to help me with.
How can I contact you?
@@riskybusiness3413 unfortunately, messaging me through the comments section is probably the best. Due to my work, I do not have any social media accounts. Moreover, I do not give out personal information online.
Understand - I have a mint condition custom Fujitsu T730 Lifebook combo dual OS 12.1" laptop/tablet with Say it Sam vocal recognition software. Also has an amplified speaker mounted on the bottom that can get very loud. I imagine it's somewhat similar to what Stephen Hawking had/used. Sounds pretty much the same. It's definitely high end and was very $$ 9 - 10 years ago. Do you know if there's still a market for one of these? If so, who might be interested in buying it? I prefer not to disassemble it as it was specifically designed for voice synthesis operation. The computer itself is pretty slick however, I don't need all of the bells and whistles. Bluetooth, fingerprint, morse code, rotating touchscreen etc. Thoughts?
@@riskybusiness3413 I know exactly what you're talkin about. Although, I really don't know if there's a market for that. That's a little beyond me.
Ok, was just curious. Thank you for replying.
You can do this with robeats i think
The first time ever I need to use a narrator cuz my old laptop has a completely none functioning display, a none working VGA output and a none working HDMI output but guess what??
The freakin speakers work lol, so now for the first time in my life the narrator is actually useful for me
thank you very much
Does this work on 3rd party apps? Like if you're playing a game you downloaded. Does it also read the text?
how do I make it work with opera GX so I can make it read out long paragraphs
ponnay . gotukola kariya
Yes that nice ! How about if I rather prefer the British accent? Is there a way to change into British narrator?
It only reads online websites for me. How can I get it to read images or recognize text?
What does it read if you have more than one screen on? I ask because I find that the Narrator is reading one of the screens from an app I have open, but I also have other windows open. But it continues reading from a screen I'm not currently working in.
Bro i really want the voices u have but i dont have them in my pc, so how to get em?
How do I make it read a text or article?
I got fed up with Narrator. Instead I use a program called Zabaware TTS Reader 2.0 (The free Version). I then selected the Microsoft ZIRA voice in the Zabaware TTS Reader program option. Zabaware is a simple program that reads any text that you have highlighted and copied. So I could use my mouse to highlight the above sentences, and then just type CNTL = C. I find it also handy to read anything that I have typed to verify that I have not missed any words etc.
Thanks
Oops, I meant to type CNTL- C. Anyhow, thanks for the Thanks.

Yeah that is really freaking anoying and who the hell would want to listen to that crap and slow things down even more unless I am almost blind.

Hi there an easy way to narrow searches
how do you get it to read a full screen of text with out stoping or having to drag your mouse over it the whole time

how do I make narrator read an online class?
Thank you, that was very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
I want the narrator to read news articles I bring up on my screen. Also, where or what is the narrator button, and how do I turn off all the confusing chatter? Have you any idea how easy it is in Firefox?
there is a Windows command that you can use to actually turn off narrator, as a blind person I do know what I’m doing with it. It does however require flexibility. If you ever want to turn off narrator at any given point in time without having to go to the settings menu, you press your windows key, control, and enter, all at once. In that order. Hope that helped
Thanks
Glad I could help
how can I make it read entire articles?
how would you use the narrator to only narrator keys on the keyboard?

How can you turn it on or off without going into the ease of access center

it's a narrator, and the answer is yes if there is text that can be marked. or if it's a photo still yes but now you must use an ocr to do it.

Didn't check the video again to verify...lol. You got me. (;
Can this be used to read books? Or could you reccomend one that I could use for book reading. I'm sight impaired thanks
Depends if the book is on the Internet, PDF file, etc. the format of the text.
To read a book, I suggest the Speak Screen function on IOS for Apple. You have to turn it on in Settings and it activates when you swipe two fingers from the top of the screen.
I can “read” both all kinds of electronic formats. It is not perfect but it is extremely good and allows sight impaired to enjoy books.
the inly reason im doing this is bc im lazy
can it only read aloud the selected text??
Yes.
do you have a related video about explaining how ?
