  • At 2:20 p.m. today, Milton Fire & Rescue responded to the report of a garage fire at 201 Hwy 36 in Milton. Crews arrived on the scene shortly after the dispatch and found a garage fully engulfed and spreading to two residential structures. Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly preventing the fire to spread any further. The garage was a total loss as well as vehicles the owner had inside. Two residential structures, as well as two other garages, received damage to their siding due to the fire. Crews were on the scene for several hours getting the fire out. Fire cause has not been determined at this time. Bedford Fire and Rescue and Madison Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

    Please remember these are Volunteers. They respond from wherever they are (Home, Work, Church, Ball games, etc.). They are hero’s! They do the best they can with what they got. Thank You!

      This is absolutely idiotic that I keep seeing comments like yours. The issue isn’t that these are volunteers the issue is that their coverage area is so large and spread apart that it takes them 10-15 minutes to get to a fire. Another issue is the fact that there are no dedicated box assignments for the initial, all hands, 1st alarm etc, units are special called.

    Maybe this is something a homeowner should consider when purchasing a home. When you live in a rural setting such as this with a VFD you will have a slow response. If that's not something you're willing to deal with then live in a city otherwise expect it.You people need to stop bashing this department. They leave work or whatever they are preoccupied with to help at a minutes notice. And the one's criticizing the way they do things, you're nothing but an armchair quarterback and there's nothing people hate more than your type.

      The garage was gone before the first engine even arrived. Not discovered early by the time the alarm was turned in it was a call to save the exposures. Good use of available resources the deck gun lobbing the water onto what it could reach and then a little bit of fogging cooled the surroundings which enabled the guys on the handlines to get the wet stuff on the hot stuff ending the threat to exposures and eventually to the extinguishment of the fire.

    • @davidlenzi3551
      @davidlenzi3551 2 года назад +2

      big hoses and a really strong pump might be useful for drafting better some forest fire hose1.5 inch and a portable fire pump. Also with the money you save buy a very big cistern 5000 gallon minimum or tie into a high capacity public water source for a private dry barrel hydrant that you will need. All the equipment in the world won't do any good without a water supply.

    • @joeycamara

      @joeycamara 2 года назад

      David your are right bout that but also think of it you could just use it till they get there as till the Fd volunteers get there if that was one of us then they can do the rest

    • @davidlenzi3551
      @davidlenzi3551 2 года назад +1

      @@joeycamara The problem with really big hoses and supersized pumps is even with a water source like a lake or river. there is still the problem of set up and deployment. Wrestling big hoses to where they're needed takes up valuable time. 1.5 inch linen firehose has a dual advantage easy to set up and fire resistance because the entire hose soaks water and the linen fibers swelling make the hose water tight. so as the hose dries out more water is allowed into the hose to keep the fibers wet. This can be up and running before the big hose big pump gets set up. For a structure fire if caught early enough even a good sized garden house can put it out. Please note I have fought fires and know this to be true from personal experience.

    One reason why they responded to my campus’s step down program was because everytime I was sleeping in my room apparently my room I was in after I moved to my new room well let’s just say that everytime I was sleeping what would happened was when I
    Ever I spilled my water bottle to a specific spot of the wall where the floor had an opening that we couldn’t see we’ll the water went right through it which was between the crack of the floor and the wall well for some reason it would sound the alarm of but when it did the fire dept was sometimes either volunteer or just not volunteer and regular fire dept or it would be both but the thing was when they looked on at the water went to there was legit no water there so I’m always making guesses that only a tiny bit of the water would touch the wire that would set it off y’all know but hey I sure was glad the both volunteer and regular fire depts were able to save the day.

      In those rural areas with limited manpower and 1000 Gal booster tanks on their engines, you have to be an idiot to grab the hydrant with either of the first two engines. Put 2,000 gallons on the fire asap, You can put a lot of fire out with 2K of water. Hopefully they are using smoothbore nozzles and not those junk automatics. As far as the "Reverse Lay' to the hydrant, its a tactic that actually works depending on manpower. Gotta love some of you keyboard warriors. I'd love to see video of your fires.

He has the command car for the very reason of not needing to stop at the station. No need to waste time there if you've got your own dept. vehicle carrying all the gear you need to fulfill the role of IC. The whole point of the command car is to get there before the engines, and get the responding apparatus more info, so that they know what to expect when they arrive.

That SUV isn’t going to put out a fire especially when you pass the large, expensive trucks that tax payer paid for and don’t stop to grab it for their fire. Our chief also has a chief vehicle at my volunteer department and still uses it to drive to the station if the truck hasn’t gone enroute yet especially if he passes the station. The chiefs have a take home vehicle, so they can go directly from wherever they are, straight to the fire, whereas the ff have to go to the station first to get on a rig. One benefit of that is the chief arriving first, is that he can get a 360 done before arrival of the crews and give reports to them making them aware of what they'll be up against when they get there.
