The democrats simply showed themselves to be out of touch this time through. Like Bernie Sanders said, they abandoned the working class. They focused on the topics that made up the social hobbies of upper middle class. Topics like racism and sexism that just aren't central to the real struggles of the poor and working class.
But some democrats are so certain these are the central topic to most Americans, that they confusedly believe people voting against them is due to those Americans view on those topics. That Americans voted red because they are sexist, racist or homophonic. In truth, they voted red because they are concerned about topics only the right really focused on, economics, inflation, foreign politics.
They didn't vote Trump because they hate women, but because they are struggling to buy food. Many may have agreed with democrats about LGBT and racial topics, but they are more concerned with the reduced buying power of their paycheck that keeps their family fed and housed.
Simply put, the democrats fell out of touch with most people, and many are switching, such as the Hispanic vote. And sadly, it doesnt seem they want to learn their lesson, and so they will attack and further push away the poor and working class that voted red for the first time in their lives this week.

I'm an independent and as much as I despise trump and think he's going to ruin this country, the dems have been consistently ignorant for years. Biden should've never tried to run for a second term as it left little time for Harris to campaign. But more importantly, there was never even a real democratic primary. The lack of a primary race where there could have been a flood of support for the nominee never was able to happen. No one wanted Biden to run again. Had someone like Walz run the primary, I think he could have possibly won the presidency. It's like how they crowned Hillary over Bernie and she lost. The Dems keep forcing their candidate down the throat of the people and they leave the with a choice of voting for the lesser of two evils so people vote for neither candidate. Plus the fact that both parties have given into the demands of the radical far left and far right and have left little to no room for someone in between those extremes. Politics have gotten so radicalized to the extremes that it's just a matter of time before the fuse runs out and the bomb explodes. I believe Trump is that fuse and it's been lit. I'll be shocked if there isn't some kind of major political uprising in the next few years, possibly civil war. But ideally we get a few third political party to take hold that actually does what's best for the everyday citizen instead of what's best for the wealthy, the big businesses that own politicians and the religious right or woke left and actually make this a country that is good for everyone and free of the hate and selfishness that has infected so many people. If Trump follows through on half of what he's said he'll do, this country will not exist as it does today and the nation will fracture apart. I don't trust a felon to run this country.

I think it's less of a shift in political leanings and more that Dems forget that elections are 9 out of 10 times about the economy. Social issues like abortion and LGBTQ are important but are second order issues for most Americans. Remember that in 2022 Dems beat expectations of a "red wave." The only reason they lost the house to a razor thin Republican majority was because of poor candidate choices and campaigning in NY western districts.
