I believe the reason this movie is such a classic is that it was so realistic and mirrored life in the big cities during the onset of the crack epidemic. Even the scene where he was cooking rock was dead on accurate
Fun fact: 2Pac was supposed to play Sharif but he backed out of doing the role because he wanted explanation as to why his character was Muslim but the Hughes brothers wouldn’t give him one. He eventually beat up the directors and they sued him for it
@wcpir81 Maybe it takes being a psychopath to survive in certain environments tho. He was the one that survived when even his friend that was religous and wanted better for them ended up dead along with most of his friends. What would that do to a person? Especially seeing that happen to your friends that were about to leave and start new lives. Fight or flight. Some people would stay and feel like there is no way out and other people would run for the hills but if you were born into that environment and didn't know anything else, what would you do? Maybe go looking for revenge on the people that killed your friends?
This is true.... reality of our society.... this product of this environment may destroy other lives just for the fun of it.... killing 2 people in a store over what?watching the murder video tape for entertainment.... that could be you or me (ANYBODY) at the end of his gun... I agree Psychopaths are created by environments. It's heartbreaking that the cycle of death and violence is just a way of life.

As a GenX black woman I grew up on these movies and music unfortunately as a 80's & 90's kid. I have a 12 year old daughter that I am raising so differently. She's homeschooled and in martial arts classes. I don't approve of the Black community and it's dysfunction or victim mentality. I am about healing the trauma. I don't want my daughter dealing with these mess. I don't trust anyone including family members. I don't bring men around my daughter. Even though I have a son who's 25 I made a lot of mistakes as a parent and should have done things differently with him. It was like when the dysfunctional community knew that my son was going in a different direction they would call him a nerd or a sell out and I let it happen, I let them vultures in & my child got on drugs (not just weed) thank goodness he's been sober for over a few years and building his life now but this is what happens when you deal with dysfunctional people who you call your community. Now my life has cut off almost everyone I have dealt with. I'm building my own family. Menace II Society was great for entertainment but was imitating real life.
