Sakuna Rice Farm is admittedly complicated at first but it is easy to break the stat cap with dumping stat boosters into the fertilizer before applying it at the start of the season.
The whole rice processing stages become simpler with the crafting of tools and other mechanics to speed the process
It feels so rewarding at the end of autumn to harvest the hard toils and get that sweet exp boost and many bundles of rice to feed you and even sell

I'm usually pretty good at picking out games for myself that I'll like, even when I'm going in blind. The only recent miss I can think of (and I know this game has a lot of fans so I'm sorry in advance) is Octopath Traveler. My main issues lay with the pacing of the multiple stories and the fact that the game forces you to do parts of some stories before you can continue with others. There were just some stories I could not be bothered with, and being forced to run through full chapters of those stories before I could continue with others really killed my motivation to try to see the ones I enjoyed through to the end. I often try to go back to games that I don't vibe with so hopefully at some point in the future I can give it another shot and find some more enjoyment in it.
Also about Xenoblade 2, if your main issue with the game is the combat than that is not at all your fault. Ask anyone who truly understands combat in Xenoblade 2 and they'll tell you that the tutorials in the game are AWFUL. They withhold key information for no reason and hide said information behind hidden NPCs that you have to buy that info from, they teach you mechanics incorrectly leading to confusion when something that's supposed to be helpful isn't doing anything, and in some very unfortunate cases they outright lie to you about how certain mechanics work. If anyone reading this has had issues with the combat of Xenoblade 2 I highly recommend a video by RUclipsr Chuggaaconroy where he explains the combat better than the game ever could in about 15 minutes with no story spoilers (also to Miss Bubbles if you see this and have issue with me recommending other RUclipsrs in your comments please let me know and I'll edit this out or delete this comment if you'd prefer.) Xenoblade 2 is one of my favorites and it makes me so sad to hear about people who couldn't get to enjoy it because their experience with the combat was ruined by crappy tutorials.

While everyone is entitled to their opinion Trails of Cold Steel is one of the best JRPGs of all time! The slow pace of it is what makes it great. You get to know the characters before everything happens and it makes the events in CS2 so much better because you lived a “normal” school life with them before in CS1. It definitely is a slow paced series but that’s a pro not a con for me. Importing the game just to not have it be steel book seems unnecessary though. But that’s easy for me to say with no OCD. My game shelf is just a mess of random games that would infuriate someone with OCD.

    • @Zakemaster
      @Zakemaster 9 месяцев назад

As a ride or die Trails fan myself, you do have to admit that the argument of why CS1, a 60-80 hour JRPG, is so good is because it helps payoff CS2, another 60-80 hour JRPG, is a little funny. Like, those are not insignificant time commitments. I love Cold Steel 1, but if someone recommended me a video game while saying that it’s slow paced and small-scaled all so that it’s sequel could pay off that time investment, I’d counter with why not just play a game that pays off itself and respects my time.
All of that being said, the Trails series is definitely something special. Long form world building and storytelling to this degree just hasn’t ever been attempted in games before, and while we may have a time commitment for the localized games that has to have passed 500 hours at this point, I’ve never regretted a moment of playing through these games. They’re just definitely not for everyone, and the more a person puts into and accepts them, the more they get out of it.

Thank you for this video, cause it also gives me a good idea of what these content creators enjoy or value in their games. Which is actually also helpful for those of us who sync with that same mindset or in some cases completely disagree. No game is for everyone, no RPG is for every RPG fan even. So respecting that we all have different tastes and styles is good, and finding the voices you do agree with is really valuable.

I actually made a comment on Taylor’s channel that I thought it was so cool that he hated a game I LOVE like Cold Steel 1. I think being different and learning from each other is what makes us as a people great and truly believe that’s the next step of evolution. How many disasters have occurred just because we see things differently? I believe we should embrace it, learn from it, and enjoy how different we can all be. Taylor and I don’t agree on Cold Steel but I am pretty sure that we agree on a lot more than what we disagree on but if we fight like fools then we’ll never know. Awesome video and very cool people here like my boy David who looked stunning with that wig lol.

About the games, Sakuna is a great chill game for me; I would never think about it as stressful. Almost everything invites to relax: growing rice, having dinner with friends, the short stages.
I have just started with the first Trails of Cold Steel to know what's the fuss about this series. It feels old, sure, but I actually like the pace, the characters, the combat. Though I admit I haven't continued because there's always another game that I like a bit more, particularly my Atelier games unending backlog.

I can’t really think of any jrpg regrets I have outside of the countless regrets of not having gotten around to playing them. It’s extremely weird, I know, but I kind of regret Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Y for being the “wrong version” of their respective eras of Pokémon, when I would’ve much rather owned Alpha Sapphire and X.
For your other question, I haven’t gotten around to playing very many of them, as they’re mostly sitting on my shelf waiting for me to play, so the only Tales of game that I’ve played is Symphonia, and although it was many years ago on the GameCube, I remember enjoying it a lot.

Mine has always been Nier: Automata - the game whose soundtrack still makes me swoon, but whose confusing storyline that needed THREE PLAYTHROUGHS to have any sense of closure left me frustrated and baffled. Yet I get burnt at the stake when I say it 😭 so I appreciate the civility you all displayed. Couldn't agree more: I WANT to like these games! I want other people to like them!! Very fun video to watch! For RPGs there not much I regret actually being but even If I don't regret buying them I still felt let down by what they ended up being vs what I was expecting. For exemple, Fallout 4 and Starfield. I had fun with both but I was dissapointed by both too. If we look at non RPG games, Zelda BotW was one I kind of regret buying because the things I don't like about the game outweight the things I like about it, that's the reason why I didn't buy TotK and never will. It's just not for me.
It was really interesting seeing all these opinions though, especially for Pokémon Violet/Scarlet because it's actually the first main entry that I actually really enjoyed in a while (so that excludes Arceus that I really liked too) but I can totally understand why someone would not.

The intro really made me laugh, I love it! 😂🥰 I completely understand the motion sickness, I heard people had similar issue with Sword and Shield? Gravity Rush made me very ill but at least there was a demo so I didn't end up purchasing it thankfully, still sad about it though.
I like soulsborne games, but I do get why people don't like them. It's difficult to describe but as I'm forever limited on time I want to be able to play a game that works with that, but I feel like soulslike games don't always? Sometimes I want to be easily distracted and look at the scenery without being pushed off a ledge by a skeleton I missed, okay! I'm sorry! 😂🤣
Speaking of which, Dark Souls 3.. I hated it. I absolutely detest it. I got to the final boss because I really wanted to like it but it made me miserable. It also took me a while to realise that I did just plain hate it and I rarely hate a game even if I dislike it! So I really appreciate videos like this, it's nice to hear different takes sometimes, some things just don't work for everyone and it's always interesting! ❤️
If anyone wishes to know why I didn't like ds3:
I like the soulsborne games for their methodic gameplay, I like the lessons they teach you and that you literally have to be prepared to try and try again. I even listen to music without game audio because something in my brain is good with patterns and so I don't need audio clues even on a first play through. In fact I find it easier to focus (though I do regret missing out on the game's music) but I eventually realised that that was in fact my issue..
Because of Bloodborne they made efforts to make ds3 gameplay/combat faster. Which is fine, but it felt like it was sometimes on 1.25x speed or 2x to me. It felt sped up but never in a consistent way, which meant I never found a pattern and it didn't even matter what build nor equipment I had.
There is also evidence that there is an optional boss with an attack box that is wider than their swing so even if you dodge it you're likely to get caught if you don't account for it. I had to look it up because I was certain it wasn't me being rubbish for once 😂 it was indeed the game. You have to be able to trust that you are the one that makes a mistake in a soulslike, and between my character model not being able to walk forward without juddering and the frame rate being up to 60fps but seldom steady (on Ps4 pro) it was frustrating for the wrong reasons. The world was so greyscale after Ds2 and bloodborne too?

FE is such an oddball series sometimes. Seems like the games with great stories (Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn, Three Houses) don't always have the best map design and enemy placement. And the ones with better gameplay (Fates: Conquest, Engage) have questionable story.
The best compromise might well be the GBA games. Or possibly the SNES titles, I'll admit they're the only ones in the series I haven't touched.

A personal pick for a jrpg I regret buying is sadly Smt v as it runs poorly, the story is the worst in the franchise and some of the late game grind is exhausting. The music and art direction was great as always though. I'm not really a fan of atlus re-releases but SMT V really needs one

  • @andr0zzsenpai

Aw, Xenoblade 2 is on my Top 10 games of all time, the story, music and characters are top notch but if the combat is what makes you quit... I get it, it does take a while a understand but when it clicks is one of the best battle systems ever made, but the tutorials are really bad
    ... haha
And for the one who didn't liked ToCS, I don't know why it didn't felt slow for me, I actually loved every bit of that game, enjoying the school trips and getting to know each of the members of class VII.
As for me, the games I cannot get into no matter what are the Dragon Quest games, I find them very boring... sacrilegious I know, but when I liked the spin off series more (Heroes 1 and 2) and managed to finish those but not the mainline games says a lot. 😅

Xenoblade 2 is divisive among the fan base. Among the hornier than you design, bad tutorial and questionable design decision as the gacha element really sucked the fun out of the game for me. The story also have quite a different mood from the first. If you like shonen you may like Xenoblade 2. If not, then you could probably skip it and try Xenoblade 3, especially if you like job system in your rpg.

I really wanted to like Asuna too. I heard it was like a farming game mixed with Muramasa The Demon Blade which is one of my favorite action games of all time. But ultimately the farming was way too tedious. It felt like they were trying to get somewhat realistic rice farming mechanics in a game with wonderfully unrealistic combat and I found the mix awkward.

I definitely recommend giving “Persona 5” another chance! Funny you felt that way about “Xenoblade Chronicles 2”, b/c I loved that (and “XB1” & “XBX”) but feel the same way about “Xenoblade Chronicles 3”. I know everyone loved that one, but so far it hasn’t gripped me like the other games and I don’t enjoy the combat like I did in the other games. Maybe if I wasn’t forced to switch job classes I would enjoy it better, but I just find the system tedious so far. The story & characters are okay, but haven’t got me invested like the other games’ stories and characters

Honestly, and I really do wanna talk about it more one day in a full on review like I typically would do, it but I agree in my own way. Because of what I mentioned in my part, it really is just a mindless grind and play at many points which sucks because I really do enjoy the world and Temtem designs. I’m all for changing up the formula of course, I think so many games like Cassette Beasts are killing it for example, but I still stand by the fact if we’re gonna implement new stuff, it’s gotta work in every part of the game.
I’ve seen Sakuna mentioned a lot though, I actually picked it up a long while ago and never got back to it, not that I didnt vibe with it I just got busy with so much else, but it’s crazy to see it mentioned so much, honestly interesting! Really intrigued to know why from your standpoint too if you ever put a finger on it, always love hearing this stuff!

Monark was so much a game I wanted to love. Story was very Interesting and at first I really got into it. Unfortunately once I realized how slow, how much you had to grind, puzzles which caused me to often cheat in order to finish them quicker, and battles that seemed to be about the same since your very first one, I soon lost interest. Somehow I managed to get to the final game stage but I seriously doubt I'll ever finish it. Thankfully I only paid 20 bucks for the deluxe edition. Again I don't totally hate the game and hopefully there will be a Monark2 with obvious improvements similar to The Caligula effect 2 which I really enjoyed.

One RPG I regret buying is Exist Archive: Other Side of the Sky. The game was cheap at GameStop, the gameplay and story looking interesting, so I thought I'd try it out. Heck, it worked in the past using this strategy with Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis. Well, there was ONE major issue that ruin the game for me- the lack of saving points. You pick certain parts of the world to explore, and that part has like a meglovania type of feel to it. Here's the problem, you can't save until you leave the area you're exploring and that's after you defeat a boss. This wasn't an issue at first, but then it could take over an hour to complete your objective. I've tried replaying this game a few times, but that mechanic is just too much for me and exploration felt like a drag because you explore the same areas again and again at some point too. So yeah it's a shame, but I am not a fan of the game for that reason.

The way the time limit is designed in that game makes it very frustrating and stressful, and that is the opposite of what an Atelier game should be. A suggestion for Xenoblade 2, always use pouch items, especially desserts, it makes driver arts have time base cooldown instead of only autoattack.
You can try Torna if you want the base combat is the same as Xenoblade 2, but much simpler. Once you understand Torna you can probably play base 2 no problem, outside the element tree, which in base 2 is fix, while in Torna is not. Just remember to do all sides you can.
2 is not important for 3, but it is important for 3’s DLC Story, which I recommend playing 2, before that.

As for RPGs i regret buying, Xenoblade Chronicles is definitely one for me, i did not enjoy the gameplay at all! but id have to go with Fallout 4, that game was just not fun to play in any regards, it's gameplay was clunky and unfun, glitches and just boring. The most regret I experienced in recent years was Dragon Quest XI on switch. I bought the game almost immediately for 60$ after seeing overwhelming praise about the game, and left me dumbfounded after playing it for 30 hours, not in a good way sadly. This is really strange, because I do adore classic turn based rpg.
For me, the story is extremely bland stereotypical fairy tale with a little twist sprinkled here and there but nothing too drastic. The story is divided into several "arcs" with one overarching plot. But the whimsical and happy-go-lucky nature of the adventure really undermines the grimness of the overarching plot. It's like the party forgets what they are supposed to do in the first place as they are distracted with a lot of things, like festivals, horse race, kingdom affair (if you can even call it an affair, feels like a comedic drama more than anything). It's really unfortunate, because I liked the premise told in the first few hours (like when the king betrayed us, and when the village was burned).
I also dislike the atmosphere of the game, as it is extremely cartoony. Final Fantasy series has this surreal feeling when I explore the settings, since the characters, the theme, the politics felt serious, hence I understood the urgency of the plot. In dragon quest XI, none of the npcs feel "human" to me aside from the main casts. The town npcs can be either very childish or excessively expressive, devoid of any grounded expressions that makes the whole situations feels real.
I wanted to say "oh but the game is relaxing at least" but I can't. I can relax in Rune Factory, Persona, and Harvestella because I find the music, the routine, and the open-ness of the gameplay works together to create a sense of lazy/chill routine. Dragon quest XI's blaring upbeat music screams adventure, and the game's linear nature makes the main story progression always takes priority, so chill factor was thrown out of window.
The graphics is good (a bit blurry on handheld, but nothing gamebreaking), but what killed the immersion for me was the plastic-y monsters and asset recycling. The enemies looks so cuddly and unintimidating that I felt bad killing them. I can't take my enemy seriously if they look like plastic figures. Since the devs made a lot of cities and areas, the assets they reused becomes extremely apparent by the mid game, to the point it adds to monotony. It doesn't help that the UI is extremely outdated, and the city services like churches and shops are poorly designed.

My bigger regret is all the fabulous RPGs that I simply will never have time to play. But keeping with the theme, my RPG regret is 7th Saga for the SNES. The game features 7 characters searching the world for magic runes that will boost your stats and the other 6 characters that you don't select will be NPCs that you will encounter in the world. The issue is that when you do encounter them, there is a chance that they will join you but there's also a chance that they will challenge you for your runes instead. Losing to them means that you will lose your stat bonuses to them making rematches nearly impossible. And because they nerfed the player stats in the English release, they will *always* beat you. Going into the latter parts of the game without those runes is equally impossible. Your best bet is to reset and start over or better yet, trade your game for last year's Madden.

Jordan with his sense of humour. Love it or hate it. ❤ For me back in the day of the PS1 when RPGs were still a new thing for me. I had discovered FF7 in 1998 and wanted anything JRPG. I got a game called Eternal Eyes and it was nothing like FF7. It was closer to the FF Tactics game we never got in Europe but a worse version of it. I didn’t like it at all. We didn’t get that many JRPGs in Europe back then. Regarding Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I barely understand it either. But Pyra is enough for me to like the game anyway😂 for Tales of the game in the series that vibed most with me was Graces F on PS3. It’s since come out on PS4 I think. Originally a Wii game in Japan.

Huh. I barely have any RPGs I regret playing, the genre is my bread and butter. I love XC2 personally, though it took me until about 40% of the way through the game to fully understand the combat and I say that as someone who's normally quick to learn systems both intuitively and by delving into mechanics. The tutorials are ass. And the "anime tropeyness" of the beginning is a bit jarring compared to the atmosphere of XC1 and 3, but once the plot gets going, it's good. The series overall is probably one of my favourites among all RPGs, and it saddens me to think of someone going blindly into 3 without having played the first 2 (even if it's not strictly necessary until the expansion).
Actually, now I think about it, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. That may be the one RPG where I just got _absolutely_ filtered. Like what were they even thinking with that game. And while I overall enjoyed Zestiria, I'll admit it's also the weakest Tales for me personally. (Since you asked which my favourite is, it's split between Xillia 2 and Graces f. They're both currently PS3 only.)

Well where many people first go wrong is comparing and even considering Trails of Cold Steel on the same level as Persona 5.
They have very little in common in general, not only that but narratively and actively try to achieve two completely different things.
CS1 acts as a major precursor to the events to follow in later games, and that methodical build up is proof of that. Unlike Persona 5 which is basically standalone.
It's a Trails experience through and through, and the pay off is in spades.

I'm the type of person who loves the Pokémon franchise and hates the way the Pokémon Company treats its own product. Even with all the flaws in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, I loved the open world, capturing Pokémon was very satisfying and the story lines were much more enjoyable than the aberration that was Sword/Shield, Tera Type's mechanics made for a fun online game, anyway. The fact that the game was so poorly optimized was so sad, but the rest of it pleased me so much that I immersed myself in the game in an intense way, for me, real life was at 15-20 FPS because I was so hooked. But anyway, I loved the video format!

I don’t like xenoblade chronicles 2 either. I agree that the combat was difficult and so annoying. I really tried to get into it.
To those who like it I’m happy for you :)
