Superb statement regarding the importance of the sheath to a fixed blade!!
Speaking as former federal LE, where I spent 5 1/2+ years as a Long Term(deep) Undercover Operative in child prostitution/human trafficking investigations, where I was involved in four(4) knife/dagger encounters, along with spending 22+ years as a Senior CQB Instructor, there are three components to a fixed blade fighting knife/dagger.
Only a fixed blade knife/dagger should be used as a fighting knife. While I do carry either a folder/auto for my regular EDC, the four(4) fighting knives/daggers that I carry on my person daily are fixed blades. Had I depended on my folder/auto as my fighting knife in those four encounters, I would not have made it out of three(3) of them, especially the last two.
That said, the three components of a fighting knife are...
1) Grip
2) Blade
3) Sheath
THE most critically important component of a fighting knife is the sheath!!!
End of discussion!!
The second most important component is the Grip!!
The least important component being the blade, as while I have my preferences, I can put ANY blade through someone, regardless of design, material, etc. That being said, I still carry, 26+ years later, two of my knives that were used in three(3) of those encounters. They are D2, and this was before all of the technological enhancements to modern day D2, and they are as sharp and in as good as shape today as they were the first day that I carried them. While I don't mind the premium steels in my customs and collectibles, D2 is my fave for my fighting, work and tool knives(I own a machining company and a bar).
Though I have all three of the Propugnators, the black G10/stonewash is my most carried, though I do prefer my fighting knives/daggers to have a smaller belly on them. The Propugnator looks to me to have a some Microtech Socom Alpha Mini genes🧬 in it, lol. Check em out side by side, either in the metal or pic to pic.
Apologies for the novella however it is very very rare that any of these YTube knife guys say anything that is actually relevant to the real knife world, especially real world knife fighting, though Baz was spot on regarding the importance of the sheath!!
Excellent vid Brotha👊
Stay Safe & Continued Success🍻

Thanks for the detailed comment. With your real-world experiences, it's no wonder that you have plenty to say. Knowledge is always welcome at Baz on Blades.
Too bad its not powdered CPM D2.
What is the difference between D2 and CPM D2?
CPM-D2 is the powder-metallurgical variation of the D2 tool steel. Compared to regular D2, it has a somewhat more balanced property profile and better edge retention. Just like the D2, this steel might need a little more care due to its relatively low chromium content of 11.5%.
Baz, I just want to thank you for the content over the years. I have bought so many knives on your recommendation and you are among the absolute best knife content creators. I hope 2024 brings you much success!
Thank you....I appreciate your continued support. I bet I do sell a lot of knives doing these videos. Which is ok, but it really isn't the goal of the channel. My goal is to give you everything you need to make an educated decision on whether to buy or not. We all work too hard not to get all the info we can before spending those hard earned $$$'s. I'm happy to know that I am helping.
Congrats for your 500 vids Baz! I guess I watched all of them. And you know what, the longer they are the more I like them 😁😁! I hope you'll make more discussion videos, particularly while driving. I love watching the Tennessee surroundings... 😃. Take care brother 🖐
Thank you very much for your support. You are always there, brother. I appreciate you.
I hope to have all kinds of new content coming up this year. New ideas, new equipment, and new underwear. Although you won't be able to see the new underwear.
"That click your hearing is my OLD MAN shoulder as I am falling apart" says Baz On Blades... 😂😂💪🤜🤛
I feel like Humpty Dumpty after a big fall. And that's on the days I feel good.
That's not true. Most knives aren't d2. Only low end budget knives are d2. I steer clear.
I wish they would do this design and offer it in a full flat grind. I think for 99% of people who will buy it would benefit more from having the front end slicing capability in the whole blade. As it stand though the difference is negligible as you stated in the review.
Good looking knife, like that style. Thanks for sharing, happy new year 🎊
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I don’t understand why sheaths are made so wide. Do a simple fold over design so the system isn’t twice as wide as it needs to be
They have this knife in nitro v on there web site
You know we are spoiled for steel quality when we all have neutral feelings about a Dimond coated d2 blade. Lol, maybe even 3v or crewear would rock. That said, it's a very think blade stock for edc. I don't think one will snap it.
Absolutely, we are totally spoiled. The truth is, most quality steels used for knives are totally ok. Even D2 is a great steel within its performance parameters. We always want "more" or "better." Even if we have a perfectly serviceable steel, we want something different. In my case I want to see a little more diversity in this price range. Certainly more stainless steels.
They need to redo it in Nitro V like the Stormridge
I think that would be a good move.
Congrats on 500 videos. Have appreciated your opinion on knives. Lot more in depth then a lot of other creators. Have a great new year.
Thank you very much...
I'm thinking this would be a good knife to carry on kayak camping trips. Looks like it can be used for multiple tasks around camp
I scallop some of my own sheaths like that but nowhere near this attention to detail.
It's pretty tight work. Their kydex hand is strong.
Wahooooo I love D2 it’s been around for a long time
D2 definitely has some years and miles under its belt.
The minute it’s made. In a crucible steel add 250.00 to the price
The onlyfans reference 👌 😅💪🗡
Gotta throw those $$$'s if you wanna get with this hot a$$ knife.
It’s because you can sharpen it in the field
Knife center called it modified tanto
Its so ugly........
You think so? Hmmm....Maybe it is. But it's a cool ugly.
Awesome review! Loved the style of presenting so you got a new subscriber 🙌
About the knife, I really dig that the design almost makes this look like an “obsidian” style tool that was chipped away at to form. Almost natural stone looking. I hope the D2 performs well.
Been looking at this nice for a bit and didn’t notice that, but I totally get what you’re saying after looking at it now. Pretty sweet and makes me like it even more, though for some reason I absolutely love this blade in a non-coated finish
@@peen2804 I bought one with ultem scales but I returned it due to it being uncomfortable in my hand. It was also heavier than
I would’ve liked. Looked cool but the blade shape just didn’t seem very functional to me, I prefer a more traditional drop point or clip point blade.
@@MarcosJDurangood to know, thanks for the follow up I appreciate it!
I can’t really see any great advantages in having a compound grind on a relatively small fixed blade, or folder for that matter. I have hard use knives and just slicing knives, pulling them together in one blade does nothing for me. I’d rather carry two knives one for each purpose. Mind you I already have plenty of knives to choose from. Well done on 500 subs.
IMO, it's 100% aesthetic appeal. The complex grinds look really cool. But the benefit is arguable.
It is great for fast kitchen work.
Because D2 is cheap. Equals higher profit !
Well yeah....I think we all know that. It's cheap and halfway decent.
Are you complaining about edge retention
