She has girl-next-door looks and has a light and lively voice and featured optimistic lyrics despite her own tough personal issues that she has emerged from looking well preserved at close to 63. She has made the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Go-Gos. She was the standout of that 80s first all-female rock group.
@@janettgrady2394 Yes, her autobiography details a 30-year or so cocaine addiction and struggles with weight and body image. She has emerged from all of those serious, personal issues and went public about them and looks stunning for her age and history. It is unfortunate that she went through such tumult. She wore it well. It was hidden and behind-the-scenes. I am glad that she overcame those personal issues and I do wish her well as well. She has brought a lot of positivity with her music and effervescent presence in her music videos and concerts as well.
@@janettgrady2394 I love "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" song the best of any of hers. She did perform on David Letterman and Johnny Carson. The Carson performances are on RUclips. However, the song was recorded and released in 1987 and Belinda was born in 1958, so she might have looked 16, but was 29 at the time. Her debut with The Go-Gos predecessor band was in 1978 when she was 20, and "Beauty And The Beat," The Go-Gos debut album, was 40 years ago, in 1981, with Belinda at 22 or 23. Stevie Nicks had the cocaine issues and carried it in her boots, she told Oprah Winfrey. Stevie Nicks is 73 years old and it is amazing that she has retained her looks and can twirl around on 8-inch heels, and sing in her distinctive contralto voice. She was always pretty and it is nice to find her well and in good form. The Heart band, Ann and Nancy Wilson, they have had their ups and downs, but have retained their looks and talents into their late 60s and 70s as well.
This song came out when I was around 14 back in the mid 80's. I didn't know who she was as I wasn't a fan of the Go Go's. I proceeded to appreciate Belinda after this video. Her music is fine but damn!!! Her face is perfection.
Such a Beautiful California Girl! She resembles a young Priscilla Presley here with the blonde hair. When she went Auburn for the Heaven album she really resembled a young Ann-Margaret! Stunningly beautiful and even now in her late 50's looks great!
i did not know this song was sung.until i bought Belinda's Carlisle's greatest hits CD. i am glad i am hearing it today.this song is motivating and makes me happy.
I've been sitting here for 30 minutes, it feels like, trying to think about what I'm going to say. She can do that. Especially to me!!!!! Lol!!!!! I love Belinda, loved her since I was 14 late 2009. My mother listened to the Go-Go's and Belinda!!!!! I play music myself.
You really needed to have a video on MTV at the time & she is seen smoking in this video. A big no no for MTV airplay (& other music video outlets) at the time. If only she played by their rules for her debut album...
@@trueshy the smoking thing is so weird too because it's out of place and serves no purpose in the video. It's as if she just decided to have a cigarette while filming and that take was kept. But to address shmuli9's question, while the song is great it doesn't have a prominent chorus. Belinda hits really nailed the choruses and this one kinda hops happily along with no big moment. I think modern pop fans would say it's a vibe, LOL. Probably would do better today, actually.
Good Lord, such a ridiculously beautiful lady. She's the kind of woman straight men go crazy for. My sister used to always ask me, "what do guys like in girls" and the models in fashion magazines and friends of hers who she would say women thought were so beautiful usually left me cold. Belinda Carlisle might not be as "classically" beautiful as Cindy Crawford but she's infinitely sexier. She looks like a regular human and an intensely feminine woman. Plus, she's a wicked talented performer with charisma to burn. She's the dictionary definition of "California Girl". Wish they all could be... :)
How in the hell did I miss this video, I had and loved this album. I don’t quite understand why people who use their voice as a source of income, turn around and smoke.
Smoking was sometimes considered cool and sophisticated in the 80's, notice she only does it when dressed in the suit, as it did not fit with the casual look in the other cuts.
@@sprinkle61 I thought it might be, then no, but smoke. That does not fit with the present, but in 1985, 38% of Americans smoked cigarettes. It is between 10% and 20% currently.
I only saw it once on MTV during the video block show they used to have. I was surprised because at the time I didn't know she had had another single off the album besides "Mad About You."
@@kirx11 Since it was her first solo album, it needed more than one single. The "Heaven On Earth" album had the biggest solo hit, "Heaven Is A Place On Esrth." That blew right up the charts. The video still holds up from 1987 and does not appear at all dated. Some of the 1980s videos of many artists were kind of rudimentary, but not hers.
Wow Belinda you're as beautiful as I remember. I recall SO many pretty women with that perky hairstyle, c. 1986-88. And the bare back at 2:00 and again a few seconds later? Yes. Just, yes.
I’m amazed that her look and fashion in this video does not look very dated at all. There’s that stereotypical 80s look that is almost comical to see today; but Belinda in this video looks as fresh in 2024 as she did in 1986.
Kindall and GIgi are pretty but when you're just genetically gifted like Belinda AND talented unlike her lesser counter parts described before sad how our standards of beauty changed for the worse .
Está perfecto, los momentos de éste vídeo, yo era así, a mis quince, diecisiete años; ése equilibrio, en medir los momentos. Estás Linda, que lindo que; te vi? Chiaro, si
This was not the big hit that “Mad About You” was. In a way it was a poor decision by the record company to release this as the 2nd single as it stalled her solo career. Until 1988 when “Heaven is a place on Earth” was released.
I think every male was in love with this amazing and beautiful woman, and what a voice too. She's phenomenal.
She had the look of beauty; still does.
I fell in love with her ever since she was a Go Go!
Was? I still am. Here I am, mesmerized by her timeless, classical beauty.
My 80's crush.....ah hell.... I'm still crushing
Even us gays 😄
This song should be in the millions of likes and views! a great classic from the 80's.
um. OK.
I mean... Belinda's phenomenal. The Go Gos had some front-to-back great records. ...but, this song specifically is super weak.
This sounds like a Christmas song! Just recently discovered Belinda’s songs, and I’m loving them so far!

One of the most talented and charismatic female singers of the 80s¡
There's so much happiness in this song! Her voice is the music of the life for me.
Light, bouncy lyrics.
If I had no idea what she looked like, I'd still be amazed by just her voice, but putting that voice inside of that .... just, wow!
My God, had no idea Belinda made so many great songs. I mean she's in a class by herself :)

this song and "I Feel Free" are my 2 favorite Belinda Carlisle songs :-) I just love this video. this song should have been at least top 5.
Totally agree. Both songs deserved To go to Top 5 or at least Top 10 Hits.
Very close to "Mad About You" video era, at her absolute peak of hotness, and that is a REALLY high level of hotness.
I love her look in this video so! Also in A Place On Earth 1999 album artwork!
She was/is beauteous.
This is such a comfort feel good song sung by a beautiful talented classey lady!!!
She really had it back then. She was reliving Ann-Margret so much!
THIS is what my mind’s eye sees when I think of mid-80’s West Coast. The perfect California girl.

You are fortunate to have been there in person for her.
Her songs have a veird combination of standard-easily-digestive American pop
and unique character which makes you listen again and again.
This is what gorgeous is!!
Why wasn't this a huge hit?
Según tengo entendido la industria musical en los 80s estaba ultra saturada de talentos, básicamente era imposible que todos destacaran.
There is beauty and then there is Belinda.
She is awesome I think her career really took off when she went solo from the Go-Gos! I will always ❤️Belinda Carlisle.
I agree. I really feel her solo career was so much better than when she was with the Go-Gos.
