Anne of Green Gables! (and the next two books in the series, the rest I still need to read, lol) Anne is literally the lovliest character, but I think we all know that by now. Also Dear Daddy Long-legs (I think this one is lesser known) it‘s a coming-of-age story about a girl in letters and it has some feminist undertones (feminist for it’s time at least) and Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis (this one is literally HILARIOUS and sooo underrated). Also also, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. The writing is not to hard to understand and Jane is a really interesting character.
Sunny, here’s a question for your weekly vlogs: Have you watched (or read) love rosie? it seems like the perfect friends to lovers but i want to know your thoughts
I feel like the only classic I enjoyed bc I chose it myself to read, was Little Women. Tho at some point need to reread cause it’s older lang. ya know😂
I need to reread Emma, it’s been a while and I found it hilarious. You need to Read the D’artagnan romances by Alexandre Dumas, the Three Musketeers series, even though it’s a classic it strangely enough has modern vibes and is very readable. The last book in the series “The Man in the Iron Mask” has strong SOC and Crooked Kingdom vibes, older Aramis in that book is literally Kaz Brekker. The first book though is my favorite, it’s such a fun read.
Cute video!! I definitely second the Sherlock Holmes series!! For readers that want similar short mysteries but more fall/gothic I'd recommend checking out Edogawa Ranpo!! Also for short spooky classics I'd recommend Carmilla, super short vampire read with a super Gothic setting and some sapphic romance vibes!!
Most of the classics I've read are in French but since you said you read the Little Prince in French (and these books most likely have English translations anyway) I'm still going to recommend them here. -idk if this is a modern classic or not but I read it in French class. It's Les Gratitudes by Delphine de Vigan, it's about this old woman in a retirement home, and the story is told from two perspectives : the little girl that this old lady took care of when she was younger but who is now grown up and comes to visit her, or the speech doctor (orthophoniste in French but I forget what it's called in English) who helps her with her condition. It made me cry during the entire time I was reading it even though I so rarely cry (almost never. one of the only times was during the epilogue of Clockwork Princess) because the old lady reminded me so much of my grandma because she's so sweet and I don't want to spoil but go read it it's short and lovely and there's a lot of reflecting about saying thank you to the people who change your life or who are in your life even just for the little joys they bring -Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand - a theatre play that I believe was written in the 19th century or something, but set in the 1600s, where we follow this reckless, eloquent, flamboyant soldier, Cyrano, who is known for having a huge nose that he believes makes him ugly. He is in love with a girl (unfortunately they're cousins but idk to what degree I delude myself into thinking they're like really really distant cousins) but she's so gorgeous and popular that he doesn't think he has a shot. But then a new guy arrives who is pretty BUT can't talk as eloquently which is a big deal for the girl. So Cyrano helps him get the girl by telling him what to say and helping him write letters etc. I also cried at the end when I first read it at age 13. I don't remember why my teacher made us read this book but she made us read Fault in Our Stars at the same time. -that's all I can think about right now but I'm sure there's more
The Great Gadsby is SOOOO good. I read it for required reading in grade 12 (for me, actually studying the book makes me like it more because I understand it lol). It's a short read, although...yknow old language so yeah. But I loooooove it. as well, (grade 11 required reading surprise surprise) Jane Eyre was amazing. Oh man I actually need to reread it because I loved it so much. Even my non-reader sister loved it when she had to read it too
One video I would LOVE to see ( it’s not in your normal type) but it’s more about how you study or organize yourself, or what your current studies are about- it’s really reassuring to see a girl like me that can balance so many things at the same time- and ik it’s hard to describe or explain- but I’d love to know how you do it! 💛
My two favorite classics are Wuthering Heights and 1984. Wuthering Heights was slow in the beginning, especially because the descriptions are waaay too long and complicated, but after you get used to the language, it's one of the most interesting (and toxic) family dramas I've ever read. 1984 is a page-turner. Every time you think the Party can't get any worse and authoritarian, you get proven wrong. It's eerie and it gives you a sense of hopelessness and fear of the possible what-if's.
In great expectations the guy who is Pip’s benefactor is a convict who was sent to Australia. He came back after his sentence and after he’d made some money there to get Pip educated.
I had to read The Outsiders in middle school. Then after we read the book we watched the movie. I also heard of some of the books but never really got a chance to read them yet
