Watching this because I want to remove my SSD from this pc and put in a new one. I'm watching this on an M700 SFF, which is the same (pretty mutch) as the one you are diss-assembling.
Thank you for the time you have dedicatet making this video.Just a question..have you measured the power consumption of the machine?in idle and under load...?thsnk you again.
I have not but I did on a similar machine. I except similar values here. Have a look at my old video regarding this, in case you are interested: ruclips.net/video/q_xz7ur4HS8/видео.html
Could you replace the motherboard with a generic third party micro-ATX motherboard? And is the power supply a standard one? Its connector does not seem to be either 20 or 24 pin..
I'm not sure. From the looks, the form factor is similar to standard ATX. For the power supply, I know adapter cables exist from standard ATX to the format Lenovo is using here but haven't seen them the other way around.
@@jensdbe thanks for responding so quickly. If the mainboard is replacable with a standard micro atx, and the power supply form factor is not unique to lenovo, then this could turn into a real powerhouse of a PC
Size-wise, I think it is up to the spec but the power supply input/control is using a different standard. I did see that conversion cables exist but don't have experience with that.
Great quality video, thank you! In your experience, do you find Lenovos to be more picky than other brands when it comes to RAM they work with? I use an old M58P tower that came with 2 x 1GB of RAM. I ordered it years ago from a refurbisher company with a RAM upgrade but the stick they installed was not accepted by the system. At the time I didn't bother returning it, because Linux Mint was perfectly happy to run basic tasks with 2GB as well. Recently I found a good deal on used DDR3 so I bought 2x 2GB sticks, no luck again, it beeps and doesn't post regardless if the new RAM is added alongside the old or on its own.
To my experience Lenovo's are not more or less picky for memory. Are you sure the memory is compatible? There is often memory available at prices that look like a good deal but in a lot of cases this is memory that comes for decommissioned servers and is ECC or Registered, which is not compatible here.
Thank you for the answer. It probably comes down to a frequency incompatibility. The board takes 1066MHZ RAM and they sent me the 1333 type (although I specified what I needed but they didn't care or didn't have it on stock. Typical Romania, haha..). There was a chance that the board could run the faster sticks at its lower required speed, so I tried them anyway, but no luck. If they make me pay for postage to return them, it's not worth it. Anyway, soon the time will come to move on from the old trusty Core2Duo to something more recent :) I just don't like throwing things away while they still work well. Thanks again! Keep up the good work! And happy new year!
I'm kind of looking for something low-power around a 60-watt processor. I think this will work but with no extra storage, no DVD, and no cooling fan I want to bolt a passive heatsink even if it won't fit in the case I can leave the top off it's going in a portable solar-powered laser burner. I even stripped down a laptop LCD display no camera just a driver circuit with video connections. All the extra power I save in watts goes toward refrigeration and a CO2 laser. Cooling is done by a thermal draft in a painted black metal pipe and wind. The ThinkCentre M900 case looks easy to work on after removing all the stuff I don't need out of the way. I will have to take it apart and clean out the smoke and dust from being an outdoor machine every few weeks. I think fanless power supplies will fit this. 16GB of ram will work well on graphic applications. Some low-power workstation cards are pretty powerful nowadays. I got a Quadro K220 it just gets warm to the touch and renders video all day and has enough power with GDDR5 ram to play some games but it's not low profile.
Not natively but if you really need the performance, you can install it through a PCIe adapter. Not sure if you could use it to boot from but it would definitely work and deliver the expected performance.
hi! I hate to ask but would you have any measurements for the space in-between the drive bay and the pcie brackets? Im thinking of putting a low profile 4060 :)
Dear friend,I'm from México, your videos have helped to me so much. But I need your help one more time, how can I get into the BIOS Advance Settings to set xmp profile? Lenovo ThinkCentre m710s 10m7.
Great video ,it is amazing how they design these machines for fast production and ease of repair with minimal tools. I have a question ,I have a Lenovo H520s vertical tower that I got at a recycle yard. I got it home and hooked it and and it booted to Windows 10 home ! It originally came with Win 8.1 it also has a core i7 3rd gen processor and 8 GB of DDR3 1600 MHz of ram. The computer runs well since I cloned a 500 GB SSD ,replacing the mechanical drive that it came with. Can I upgrade the memory to 16 GHz since the machine is running Windows 10?
Would it be possible to fit a different mATX motherboard in this? I have the same computer, and i love the design of the case etc. I use it on my tv in my livingroom. I guess the power cables can be a problem but might be able to buy adapters for it. How would it be to mount a different cooler when the mounting screws goes into the chassi in the back?
I don’t believe so, was looking into it myself and it’s a custom form factor board as well as some of the psu plugs are made to specifically only allow that motherboard, they would never do this to stop consumers from upgrading though 😁👍
you can add support to 8th /9th gen intel and xeons lga 1151 aswell with coffe time bios mod via, the m900 is better to doing (im do with m710e and im plain todo with m900 to, xeon m) Edit , im upgrade tp coffe lake with m710s xd
Hi, I have the same PC at home and was wondering if an Asus Dual Nvidia GTX 1660 Super OC (graphics card) would fit. I'm thinking of upgrading this to a gaming PC. Thanks!
If you have a low profile card, which exists as a GTX 1660 super I believe, it should work. The power supply is 210W and that card would draw at max 125W as far as I can see. It will be on the limit but I don't expect too much issues.
The most powerful low profile GPUs available are the Gtx1650 and the RX6400 The 1660 is probably ITX (shorter in depth, but standard height), so it won't fit. You will have to find a more powerful TFX power supply than the one included, probably.
This this SFF can only hold 1x3.5" HDD? Do you know of any model which can hold 2x 3.5" & 1x 2.5" at least? (I do plenty of HP SFF machines do but wondering if any SFF from Lenovo or Dell has those capabilities as well)
If you need place for more than one 3,5" drive you could go for an SFF with a full 5,25" DVD-drive. There are brackets to hold a 3,5" and 2x 2,5" drives that fit in that place. I used it here to build my NAS: ruclips.net/video/NXWQ4FI5Pu4/видео.html

No need to do a case swap if you are using a low profile card. These exist as 1050Ti for sure. A case swap is difficult as the motherboard is not in a standard format and the power supply isn't either.

You can use any of the SATA ports for an additional drive but might need a splitter for the SATA power cable as the DVD uses a different type.
