I just discovered your channel and ended up binging all your content. I've got to say that you're quickly becoming my favorite TF reviewer on RUclips. I love how everything is straight and to the point and you don't take 15-20 minutes to talk about a figure(s). It's also great that you review transformers that are old and new. Plus, your accent makes the reviews a joy to just listen to. It's like Scrooge McDuck is gushing to me about his love for transformers. Pure awesomeness, keep this up!
I remember having the G1 Broadside as kid and being extremely nonplussed. The jet was so bad, the robot so non-articlauted, the carrier so boring. Now, looking back, I admire the cheek of Hasbro releasing what is essentially a brick - I kind of love him.
Imma be an apologist for TR Broadside and his jet mode. It's looks pretty bad out the box but with the fins (carefully, because translucent plastic) flipped and the shoulders hinged down to their lower position, you get a much better, if still malformed, jet. There's also a fan mode with things straightened out that looks tons better even if it doesn't really peg together. Iirc the fan made jet mode looks so much better that there were theories floating around that it was the original planned jet mode and that last minute engineering changes are what left us with what we got in the end.
One of the great things about a collector community is that when someone has an idea -- like flipping the tailfins and rearranging the parts differently to get a much sleeker jet mode out of TR Broadside -- it gets shared, so we can all benefit.
Inspired me to get my TR Broadside out again; I have turned his red tail fins around so they make more sense in "jet" mode, painted Blunderbuss' visor red, and painted the Aerialbots he comes with. Might even pick up the Shapeways Alpha Bravo and Powerglide to go with them. [Also to get a better jet mode, just lay the legs out straight; they don't lock into anything that way, though; prop up the vehicle by attaching the gun on the underside peg; and be sure to put the shoulders back, it looked like yours were still in their aircraft-carrier position]
God I love Titans return Broadside. I mean… C’mon. It’s an Aircraft Carrier Transformer. I’m imagining Blunderbuss as tall as Optimus, with Broadside himself rising out of the ocean, firing all of his munitions. And he looks so cool! The Jet mode is definitely the mode that got shafted but I got an excuse for it: Broadside is a *HEAVY* retool of Alpha Trizor. Which is a jet and a lion. And believe it or not, the jet mode became the Aircraft Carrier, while the lion was completely removed and replaced with a jet. Thus, a pretty ass looking alt mode is fine. Besides, we all know you were gonna have display him in his carrier mode anyways. The only reason I haven’t gotten this chonky lad yet is the price he goes for these days. But mark my words. The SECOND they announce an Avengers Quinjet/Helicarrier retool I am jumping RIGHT ON THAT SHIT. Especially if the headmaster is Fury. God I want a tiny Nick Fury headmaster.
Awesome video. I can't tell you how thrilled and relieved I am that you didn't go through every single little posing joint and movement for the robot. Can ge do a split, can he do double bicep, can he do elbow swing, can he flip around, can he move his toes, can he do this ankles, can he bend backwards, can he do backflips... Thank goodness.
I like Broadside, although G1 Broadside is a bit better on account of him carrying the modes better due to his rough charm, and not having translucent bits that can snap off
Now, as a kid, the only one of the G1 Triple Changers I had was Astrotrain...and he was a blast to mess around with. One of my friends had Blitzwing, but the tank turret was missing, so he was effectively just another jetformer. Since I never had any of the others myself, I have no dog in the G1 Broadside fight. Titans Return Broadside (& Tidalwave!!) *definitely* should've been Leader class so his aircraft carrier mode would've made a little more sense...but for what we got (an extensive retool of Alpha Trion), it's okay. And like others have said, have the legs straightened out and the tail wings flipped to the proper orientation. But of all the modernized updates of the Triple Changers (including citybots/basebots), Siege Astrotrain has to be my favorite, followed by the Thrilling 30 Springer mold (Springer & Sandstorm), with Earthrise Snapdragon in fourth, followed by Siege Springer, TR Overlord mold (STILL annoyed that we didn't get a Thunderwing retool of the Black Shadow/Skyshadow version of the mold), TR Astrotrain mold (I have Sentinel Prime, but you KNOW this body mold was tailor made for Astrotrain!!), & TR Broadside. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️

I remember having a KO version (can't remember exactly but probably KO) of this guy that I eventually lost/broke. Good to know his name. I actually got him with a G1 Blitzwing, which I remember liking better cuz his 2 vehicle modes both look pretty good. Though as a kid, I ofc liked all my toys and can see a rough charm in Broadside's jet mode.

Megatron turned from a 20ft robot to a handgun, so I never understood how anyone could complain about Broadside's mass differences between forms. That said, I like the Robot and Aircraft Carrier better on Titans Return, but for Jet mode, the win goes to G1. Yes it's jet is blocky, but it just better than what they did with Titan's Return. I hope one day to see a better version done :) I can't say he's the #1 character but I've always liked the idea of him :)
This (and many other wandering thoughts on TF) has made me consider, what IF they did do a series of TF where "mass shifting" or whatever they call it was not a thing. I genuinely think that limitation could make for some simple yet exciting stuff. Loved the video, I'm not setting up my own War Without Reason(s) but I've been more inclined to buy recent figures of stuff I have or had from G1 especially if I've got the reprints. Picked up Inferno today for that exact reason (excuse).
Gosh I would love an update on both Broadside and Sandstorm. Titans return AND generations is a bit of a stretch for current chug collections since WFC added ankles to everyone.
G1 Broadside is one of those guys I absolutely have to get someday. Got a soft spot for the original Triple Changers. I pretty much think they're pretty great. Only got my childhood Springer, minus the rotor blades, and a recent reissue of Astrotrain. Broadside and Blitzwing are on the agenda next year I think.

broadside is just an insane concept, i admire his audacity for even existing. but he does exist in a world where a regular sized locomotive does in fact turn into a whole ass space shuttle so i think we should cut him some slack on the whole aircraft carrier to fighter jet thing. i mean, he hates heights and the sea - this clearly wasn't his first choice of alt mode(s)

I've been looking at getting Titans Return Broadside since I started collecting again because I want more naval transformers and I'm not insane enough to to pay like £250 for the Siege on Cybertron set that's perpetually on eBay for just the Tidal Wave repaint of him. Also because those tiny jets are maybe the only way I can get a jet smaller than a Minicon for my stack of jets (Cybertron Starscream, Armada Skywarp, Cyberverse Starscream and Armada Thunderclash is the current peak at four layers, if Hasbro gives me a Titan Class Cybertron Starscream I will buy it and make the base bigger). I will 100% ignore that the jet mode even exists of Broadside though. I do have respect for G1 he is definitely charming but I'd prefer the Titans Return one I think.
Do you have any of the prime trilogy mini bots? I’ve ordered a couple recently and I’m quite excited for them. Also, innit weird we haven’t had a Titan class aircraft carrier transformer? Be the perfect way to get a massive in universe vehicle as a transformer and have it scale near perfectly with other bots
It's a funny old world and we collectors are a funny old bunch, I don't mind crap poseability, I don't mind over designed aesthetics, but I have never been able to get past the fact that he's an aircraft carrier and also an aircraft! Does he mass shift or does he transform into a scaled up plane for other Autobots to fly in? Even if they had made his boat mode a speedboat I could have lived with that, as he is, he's not welcome on my shelf! But the rest of you have fun.
I believe a recent Legends comic gave a pretty good answer: that is, he doesn't mass-shift at all. His real robot mode is the Headmaster, which is actually meant to scale with the Aerialbots he comes with (meaning he's about the same size as Superion). So his jet mode is indeed a gigantic spaceship, with a cockpit that can really only seat him or a combiner.

But that would mean the figure should be around the same size as Fort Max and in vehicle mode the cockpit should accommodate a deluxe or voyager class figure. But but I'm a realist and I know Hasbro wouldn't make a super expensive figure just to stick to an arbitrary rule. He's a handsome lad but not my cup of tea. :)

I think you mistransformed Broadside's jet mode. It doesn't look great, but the arms go back further than that.
