  • Woodturning a scary firewood three root into a stunning vase without using epoxy resin. Before I could start turning had to remove all the dirt, stones and sand and using my pressure washer seem to work very well. After careful carving begin on my woodturning lathe to start shaping the root into the desired form. At the end I used wood bleach to lighten the colour. My plan to cast this in epoxy resin when the vase fully dried out so did not want to use an oil finish and was keen to experiment with wood bleach

OMG. I had no idea what to expect. This is so beautiful and unique.
I don't see a need to cast with resin. It's perfect the way it is.

Thanks for putting the no resin bit in the title - I would have just made the assumption you were going to cast that and kept scrolling otherwise. 😂

Heck I’d put it on a table as is. It’s a cool piece just the way it is. Makes me sad to see you doing this. But I’m sure the end piece will be beautiful.

You have a fantastic vision to know where you want to go with something that started as gnarly as it did. I would leave it as is. It would be great for someone's beach house.

Turners are trying to out do the next person that comes along. I want to throw my hat into the ring. I’m gonna get my three Rolex watches. Drop them into a jar of resin and turn them.
