No. Although that sound can be indicative of crazy this sound will happen on some level regardless of whether you're ware crazes or not. To be honest I opened my kiln at 600 degrees and this is most likely the glaze going under pension because of some sort of thermal shock.
Thanks so much for posting this! What a rare pleasure to get to listen to them. I live near a lake that is one of the sources of the Susquehanna River, and in spring the ice breaks up and goes out. Every few years the chunks of ice ping and sing against each other in the river, chiming in a song very similar to this one. Again, thanks!
I just had my first batch of pots fired at a ceramic studio. They called and said they were ready. They were packed up. Got home, unpacked and they made this sound for hours. The “rhythm” wasn’t as fast. A few weeks later and I hear a ping every now and then from my pots. No crazing yet. I wasn’t sure if it’s normal or not??? And I still can’t tell from the few comments so far. Thoughts?
Glaze doesn't fot the clay body. I had one that did this for a couple months! I had to put it in a different room lol. I quit using that clay body and never had the issue again.
I love this! I’ve been using Soldate for hand building and B-Mix 😂 for throwing. Chose because that’s what my instructor suggested but never explained to me. Your channel is teaching me so much!
When I hear that sound, I panic and close the kiln to slow the rate of cooling. But then I'm just an amateur with a small handful of successful firings under my belt, and as I'm not in a hurry to get the kiln emptied out for the next firing I can afford to wait a few hours. In a production setting, I can see how speeding up the process as much as possible without cracking things would be beneficial.
@@aigo000t I was more worried about uneven cooling causing the pots to shatter, as can happen with blown glassware if it isn't allowed to cool slowly enough. Maybe not a concern for clay-based ceramics?
Haters: This is definitely you just hitting your pottery with a spoon in the background…. JK thanks for sharing it’s such pleasant & satisfying sound to hear :)
This sound, while beautiful, *_always_* makes me think that the glaze is crazing. Or that the glaze developed little air bubbles in it and those teeny glass bubbles are now bursting as the pot cools.
I have the same issue as another - not much pinging when taken out of the kiln, but when they’re sitting I’ll randomly hear a ping now and then. Is that normal? I always hear it’s not and it’s crazing etc… but I can hardly believe anyone anymore 😂 I just don’t know what to believe. Help!
Hello! I came across this video trying to research the noises I've been hearing. So I hope you can help and see this. I have a lot of house plants. most pots are from home depot, etc. That I put my house plants into. About 3 or 4 times a day, usually later at night (I assume due to things being quieter) a random ping. it's always ONLY one ping. After about a year I realized it was my plant pots. Is this the same? It's not as pretty sounding as yours lol or constantly. its just random. And I realize its only the glazed pots I have. They're of course mass produced, so I'm not sure if that plays into it.
I'm glad you did! I got a pot from a family member of my deceased neighbour and it pings, was on my mind until I found out it was a normal sound. Your pinging pottery sounds lovely. Like little twinkle pingles. @@EarthNationCeramics

@@EarthNationCeramics so cool. Thanks for sharing!
Happens when the glaze doesn't fit the clay body.
opening the kiln at 600... I've only opened at 400 tops, and even then I got yelled at to only open at 250... you are brave
That's a new favourite sound discovered
It sounds like little tiny bells ringing. Gorgeous glaze!
That needs to be on a loop for sleep meditation

The Hudson River does this, when it's able to freeze over … which is getting rarer and rarer …

Beautiful to the eyes and ears!
Amazingly beautiful sound and glaze!

My favourite sound
WHAT IS THE NANE OF THE GLAZE COMB YOU USED❤️
You should turn that into a ring tone & sell it. 😂 I’d buy it!
Nice sound!
oooh the feels
Could you do a glaze video on the theme of ‘modern’ glaze techniques vs ‘crafty’ glaze techniques and results.. eg monochrome vs browns and blues
whats the glaze?
J'adoooooore!!
This sound makes me cringe!!! I have had many pots that crazy pretty badly after pinging like this. The glaze combination is amazing though!!
Uh oh.
I get this alot.
Perhaps the clay I use isn't right for the glaze.
💯

We is silly folk taking time to listen to your pots ping when we have at times heard our own pots pinging.🤔
