The Vodafone SIM I am using is "Unlimited Max" and is £30 a month. It is a phone sim, rather than a data sim, but that's what they sent me when I asked for unlimited data.
As always Bob your review is excellent, straight forward and understandable for the layman. I know your interests are probably more motorhome related, but I really think you could have a full time job reviewing virtually anything, its just the way you go about it and the overall delivery honest and straight forward 10/10
A good review. Thanks Bob. I use one of these with my portable office when working away from home in my van and when working in a client's office. It also works well with a Google Chrome device to make my van tv smart and thus access sports and entertainment channels. It has done well for over three years. The only problem I have had is that the push button on the front is quite sensitive resulting in it switching on in my briefcase a few times and thus draining the battery. I found a hard carry case for it and that seems to have solved that problem. If I had a choice, I would definitely buy this device again.
We're still using ours even though we have built in WiFi. it gives us an alternative provider, and it picks the signals up well even without an aerial.
Interesting video we used a TP-Link M7350 with a Giffgaff no contract 40gb data sim better than caravan site wifi also worked in France good enough to watch tv on through Amazon Fire Stick.
for anyone watching this and may be put from buying it because it only has 1 ethernet connection (wired connection) you can simply buy a 4 port net work switch for around £10, which you would plug into the single ethernet port on this router, which would then give you 4 ethernet ports on the network switch, so you end up with 4 ports instead of one.
OK, multipurpose device but £300 ain't Peanuts.. although a one off payment. *Device still requires Sim with unlimited date which is & £20+ per month but could facilitate multiple connections*

Good review on this mobile broadband router, the price is off putting though, if it was £200 max i would consider it. No, but you need to check in the settings of the Netgear, what the WiFi is called,. Way too expensive! We have an EE mini WiFi router which costs about £13 for 30GB. Very rarely don’t have a good signal. PS Merry Christmas lol (my wife spotted your cushion in the background).
The EE Mini runs of mains or battery. Runs for 8 hours on battery. We have it plugged in to a socket so it charges when on hookup and auto switches to battery once we unhook so we constant WiFi. Have an app on my phone to show what data has been used and whose connected.
Really interesting and informative, thank you. I’m looking into getting an unlimited data SIM at present. Who do you think is the best coverage, ie EE, Vodaphone or Three? Thanks
I have a three sim and an EE sim both in tp link mifi routers. To be honest I have found that speed etc all depends on location but where both work well I think EE is faster and gets reception in more areas. Not tried vodaphone though
Hi, Nick forgot to say that Smarty (owned by 3) has an offer on for unlimited everything for 18.75 per month at the moment - if interested here is a link where you get a free month and a 10 amazon voucher and I get a free month referme.to/N6risNo. I'm using Smarty and it is exactly the same as three in speed etc - just uses online support no phone
@@simonbailey2399 it does sound good, but I don't find the three network coverage as good. Hardly any Three signal at home at all. Plus I'm on a year contract now!!
It can act as a WiFi extender. Netgear call it 'offloading'. So it can pick up WiFi from a campsite fof example and distribute it via its own WiFi. Never going to be as good as a decent mobile signal though.
Sorry don't understand what you mean. There is the mobile Internet and the WiFi that the Netgear produces connects the TV, laptops and phones to the Mobile Internet via the Netgear M2.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo Aha now i got it why there are two bands , we create one then two appear . but what is the difference bewteen the two and which one we must use? Or am i wrong in this too?

Dear sir, @12.45s Do you think it’s possible to transfer files to the connected usb storage device using this nighthawk? I want to connect a remote (timelapse) camera with the ethernet cable to the m2 and store the images to the storage device (e.g a stick or even a ssd drive) which can be picked at the location. How about overheating risks you think? Can one override sleepmode? Thanks
I take it you know the voda sim is capped when abroad? The device itself is just far too expensive, it needs to be at least 100 pounds cheaper. I have a roof mounted aerial in my Motorhome and considered the device but it’s just a ridiculous amount of money.
Yes it is capped at 25gb a month. Half my total allowance of the last sim. Think that will be enough. Also got 8gb roaming on our phones.
Fantastic review from the both of you excellent information as always. Just what I’m after & if you can use it without an aerial then that’s money saved there plus no holes in the roof.😁👈me 👍👍👍
We use xbox one as it has Sky Go app Amazon Video App and Netflix app and you tube
Do I plug the XBox one into router like you have plugged your sky box into it ?
Looks really good and easy to set up
By look of sky you have in motorhome husband will be pleased watching films on night and I have no problem downloading ebooks and using Alexa for music
Thanks, yes I suppose you could plug the Xbox direct into the Netgear M2.
Hi Bob, got my Netgear router and when charged and SIM in it is in German! How do I get it to show English instruction for set up?
Swipe up, setting, screen, swipe to the bottom, default language. Or, Wischen Sie nach oben, Einstellung, Bildschirm, wischen Sie nach unten, Standardsprache. 😁
@@BobEarnshawMoHo Hi Bob, thank you for your reply, your German is very impressive! When I swipe up it says WLAN anpassen can’t get a setup screen, do you think my device is faulty?
@@anneprowse78 I have exactly the same problem, except mine is entirely in Spanish. Swiping up makes no difference at all.
A very interesting video, thank you x
Great thorough review well done 👍
Thank you
Way too expensive! We have an EE mini WiFi router which costs about £13 for 30GB. Very rarely don’t have a good signal. PS Merry Christmas lol (my wife spotted your cushion in the background).
Yes, but you have to remember what else this router can do.
The EE Mini runs of mains or battery. Runs for 8 hours on battery. We have it plugged in to a socket so it charges when on hookup and auto switches to battery once we unhook so we constant WiFi. Have an app on my phone to show what data has been used and whose connected.
Battery, 20 users, 2gbs download, USB tethering, port filtering and VPN Passthrough plus LAN connection are the main things you pay extra for.
True. Bit much just for using in a Motorhome tho’.
It could replace our domestic broadband too.
Good video and information
Really interesting and informative, thank you. I’m looking into getting an unlimited data SIM at present. Who do you think is the best coverage, ie EE, Vodaphone or Three? Thanks
EE followed by Vodafone then Three
Bob Earnshaw thanks for that,I will try ee
Hi would it pick up Free Wi-Fi there are at some sites
It can act as a WiFi extender. Netgear call it 'offloading'. So it can pick up WiFi from a campsite fof example and distribute it via its own WiFi. Never going to be as good as a decent mobile signal though.
Why there are two wifi???
Sorry don't understand what you mean. There is the mobile Internet and the WiFi that the Netgear produces connects the TV, laptops and phones to the Mobile Internet via the Netgear M2.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo Aha now i got it why there are two bands , we create one then two appear . but what is the difference bewteen the two and which one we must use? Or am i wrong in this too?
I understand your question now. The Netgear M2 produces two WiFi signals (or bands) that you connect your phone, laptop or TV to, one is a 5GHz signal, which faster but has less range, the other is the more common 2.4Ghz signal.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo it is really good router👍.. There is an update, should I update it or not? This update will effect on the wifi or signals or charging or etc? I just bought it a week ago
Thanks
I have always done the updates for it, not had any problems so far.
Like your box holding assistant [ jenny ]
Lets see it working in a remote location until then it’s all talk
Like said it would benefit from an aerial.
After doing this review thought you might like to watch this insight into 5g ruclips.net/video/_CTUs_2hq6Y/видео.html think it will be a very long time before we see a good 5g signal on caravan sites.
