    My mother (who is a speech/language pathologist) taught me that we say, “mmmm” when feeding babies because it encourages the correct oral structure when eating off a spoon. Otherwise babies may tend to leave their mouth open. She also taught me to feed from the side of the spoon to encourage the tongue to stay in the correct place instead of coming forward. 🤗

I started watching your videos for succulent care tips and got hooked. I have learned so much from you. And now making succulent arrangements is my favorite hobby. My battle started last fall. I used BTI. I also used bright yellow paper plates with a light layer of Vaseline spread all over it. Worked well but if just one gnat survived it could produce 300 to 400 more gnats. I recently removed some cuttings I had over wintered under lights and I think I am now gnat free for my spring seedlings!! I didn't pour boiling water over my soil mixture once...NEVER AGAIN! Good luck.

      @melissasullivan1658 2 года назад +4

      @@bettenotap4791 Yep, I only use bottom watering + a strong clip on fan per shelf and and don’t have a gnat problem. The issue is growing the fungus in the first place. I still occasionally have an early issue sowing on top of soil. But for that it’s all about vermiculite - and a strong and steady fan. I’d be so frustrated without my fans!

    • @seanaames6855
      @seanaames6855 2 года назад +4

      BT breaks the cycle. That's why you have to continue using it for 3-4 weeks.
      Putting a layer of sand as the top layer is helpful, too. It dries out faster so, the gnats don't lay their eggs there.
      . . . And of course, using the yellow sticky traps (whether homemade with Vaseline or store bought) is helpful in getting rid of adult gnats so, they can't lay eggs in your soil
      A multi-pronged attack is probably best.

    She has a heated greenhouse remember, so chances are you are probably not late! I start the bulk of mine (except for my greenhouse flower farm crops) in March/April (Zone 6). She is experimenting, and will find out that the short days will affect the growth quite a bit even with the warmer temps in the greenhouse. If she starts those same seeds 4-6 weeks later, she will likely be harvesting from both successions at the same time.

Then one day on the highlights channel you just mentioned in passing that you use those yellow sticky traps. So I ordered them on Amazon and they are amazing... But I still have gnats, even though there are gnats on the traps. So last weekend we went to our local nursery and I struck up a conversation with one of the garden experts and told her about my gnat problem. Guess what she recommended? Oh Yes she did! I went home with a bag of Mosquito Bits!!! So imagine my surprise and satisfaction when I watched today's video!!! I'm so proud I bought the right stuff!!!

      Sorry, years ago I worked at a florist and we always took a sharp sewing pin and poked it straight through the stem right underneath the head of the tulip and pulled it back out. This creates a tiny air bubble within the stem, right under the flower head, and stops it from drooping so quickly. Not sure exactly why it works but it seems to. Have a great day!

    My heart melted seeing Samantha Grace sign “more” - so very sweet! It brought back memories of my kiddos at that age. ❤️❤️ So looking forward to following along as everything picks up going into Spring. Thank you so much for bringing a bit of brightness to my Monday morning.

    I’m so happy to see you get an orchid. My 🤩 favorite. Remember to soak in water up to top for three days, once a month. Mine bloom for 2 to 3 months then not for up to 3 months.bright light and continue to water. Only turn or move when in bloom.

    I loved seeing Samantha use sign language for more! My daughter in law has been teaching our 2 year old twin grandchildren sign language and they know “more and all done”. we are all hearing in our family but what a great way to teach a second language! Loved the video as I always do. Keep up the outstanding jobs you and Aaron have taken on! I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have Garden Answer to watch with my morning coffee!

    Oh how fun! Thank you for taking us along in you day. Your kids so sweet, when Samantha Grace tasted the food did anyone else click their teeth to encourage her to chew? Felt a bit crazy but it’s so automatic. Lol thanks for the fun planting and cooking.

    I like the half baked harvest recipes as well! I also love recipes by "Once Upon A Chef!" The recipes are so good, and easy to follow. Jenn Segal (the author) has a blog and has two cookbooks. I recently went back through my favorite recipes and most of them were from Once Upon a Chef. She has so many tips and ideas for the family cook! And for Laura, Jenn Segal loves loves loves spice- so some of her recipes may just be the "Cat's Meow" for you!

    Great video! I've had success with the Bits also. I use a milk jug that I put tiny holes in the screw lid (too small for the bits to come through) so don't have to transfer to a watering can. Plus this way I can fill the jug twise using the same Bits, which is still affective. Works well for me.

    • @conniesanrn2730
      @conniesanrn2730 2 года назад

      It's ok for the bits to be on the soil
      No need to strain them

    • @marieandruby
      @marieandruby 2 года назад

      @@conniesanrn2730 I tried that and found in some cases where a plant needs a moister soil, the bits will start to rot and stink after awhile. Have you had that problem at all?

    • @conniesanrn2730
      @conniesanrn2730 2 года назад

      @@marieandruby I havent used them a lot so I've not noticed that. The instructions say to place them on the soil and water normally. I couldnt find any directions that say to do it the way laura did. 🤔

    Samantha Grace is so lovely so nice to see her growing and walking. We here in Cape Town are hitting the 40deg which is very hot for us here on the coast. Although my 3 adult children and will be a grandma again in July will be repeating the mmmm every time I give my little one something to eat

    My experience with the mosquito bits has been outstanding. I always would have fungus gnats when I would bring my outdoor plants in. Of course, I use the mosquito bits before I read the directions, anyway I sprinkle them on top of the soil and then water the plant. It seemed to have done the same thing successfully. I hope yours works equally as well because you followed the directions!

    If they're houseplants you can keep a mosquito dunk in the watering can continuously and it will keep it from happening. II do sometimes keep a small amount of water in the can between waterings.

    You should get yourself a couple of Octopus carnivorous plants (Drosera Carpentis) to put in your studio. It would do great under the grow lights just make sure you keep its saucer full of RO water at all times. They are super easy to take care of and I think Benjamin would get a kick out of them.

I also have started to see fungus gnats. I am going to try your Mosquito bit method, but instead of nylons, my local Sherwin-Williams paint store sells 1 gallon paint strainer bags. These can be reused to soak the bits.
