Because of your inspiration, I plan on pulling out some children's plastic stencils to use for this silhouette style collage. I also have a coloring page I don't like, but now plan to use the dolphins as silhouette creatures. I am so glad I found your RUclips channel. - jo shu

Beverly Clearly was my favorite author when I was a kid in the 1970s. In 5th grade, we had an assignment to write a letter to an author, and I chose her. She sent me back a beautiful, personalized letter, which I truly wish I had saved! I shared my love for her books with my sons. Thanks for your fantastic storytelling (along with your inspirational art ideas)! You brought back a wonderful memory from my childhood.

This is a brilliant idea. Other ideas for patters would be children’s color books and for images like your mushroom, appliqué patterns would be a great segue. TFS.💜🐞

Yes, I was having the same thought. Children's color books often have great basic shapes. Quilting applique books are absolutely perfect. I was also thinking stained glass pattern books would also be a resource.

Hello Anne. What an absolutely wonderful idea to create both journal page and journal card embellishments as well as journal cards. Old calendars may also be a resource for animal shapes. I am trying to catch up on your lovely videos I have missed lately. You know it's summer and time to be on the go while the weather allows so many more out of the house activities. Your camping trip sounds like a real memory builder. BTW I hope you include the Ralph Mouse books in your collection. My 3rd grade classes always enjoyed them. Another author I really enjoyed ( and still read his new books even though I'm retired) as well as my class is named Roland Smith. He did an author visit to our school district and was a wonderful speaker. While here he found an interesting idea 💡 and wrote the book Zach's Lies centered in our small town.😊

Thanks so much, Christine! I'm so lucky that I've met Julie - I admire her so much and she inspires me daily with her creativity, skill, kindness, and warmth. To use a phrase my mom used, "she's good people!" In fact, I'll tag her here - @julietorrens - just so she sees us singing her praises!

I am 70 and my brother and I had the black silhouette done for my mom when I was 6 and my brother was 8!😂 that was at the Ohio Stare fair in 1960, they are still somewhere in my house😊❤
Edited to add, we use old phone book pages to roll up, very tight and weave things, you can seal them,…make boxes or pouches, lots of things, even glue them to round containers as well!😂fun with children. They paint them , when the object is finished, before sealing.. Also my brother had
      a crew cut❤

Did Henry have a donut machine that went crazy and filled the town with doughnuts?…and a growing ball of string?

@@kathysunshine699 Maybe, I don't remember those parts and we haven't gotten all the way through the book yet. But those kids were always up to some sort of wackiness on Klickitat Street!

My sisters and I are in our 50’s and 60’s and our parents still have our child silhouette cut outs in oval frames hanging in their house 💕

That's so sweet. I'm glad they kept them. Now that I'm a grandmother, I would absolutely get a silhouette made of my little Barney if I ever ran across a place that did it! Thanks for watching, Lori, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for looking up the details, Betty. What a treasure she was, in Portland and everywhere else, too! I love how she portrayed children - not as perfect angels, but as ordinary children who got into scrapes and then learned something in the process. Still, she was never preachy about it.

Hi Anne. I'm with you. I can remember doing my silhouette in grade school as a mother's day gift. My mom treasured it.
I live in Blair NE....what town did you grow up in? TFS ❤

Hi, Denise! I grew up in Auburn, which had the only stoplight in Nemaha County! My brother and I got our silhouettes done at the old Southroads Mall south of Omaha - those were exciting times for us! What fun to hear from a fellow Nebraskan. So glad you are here, thank you!

Thanks for watching, Diana. That’s an interesting thought about bringing shading in with collaged silhouettes. I’ve never tried that, but I think you’re on the right track. I hope you give it a try!
