I can remember exactly where I was the first time I watched this video. I was in awe of what I was seeing, and it changed my perspective on music for the rest of my life.
While I wasn't awestruck by Portishead's 2nd CD as much as I was by "Dummy" I remember being completely taken by this particular track...just so many different sound characteristics assaulting my ears. Fabulous song.

they hit a target no one knew was there, but upon listening, maybe we can agree is archetypally resonant and scratches an itch that feels oddly familiar
I mean I love Portishead and they were on target for their era but even so their popularity seems very flukey. I have no idea what the equivalent of Portishead today would be, but I doubt they'd be performing at the equivalent of Roseland today.
Ich muss bei diesem Track immer darüber nachdenken, mir meine Pulsadern mit einem rostigen Messer aufzuschlitzen. Danke, Portishead! Und nein, ich bin nicht Suizidgefährdet.🍺🍺🍺
I agree, and frankly I'm confused as to why you're being voted down. The second album is brilliant, but I've never met a single fan in real-life who didn't prefer her natural voice over the effect.
I don't get why. Honestly, I consider "Dummy" to be more... You know, on some Massive Attack type ish, more jazzy and moody. Even the color scheme seems to work that way, the dark blue and black. Whereas the 'black album', is, like the black and white cover, stark, raw, and actually, almost a bit more hip-hop in a way.
This piece is soooooooo dark, I've loved it for over 20 years.
Right with ya.
20 years?
@@rickbales1880 Yeah, it was released in 1997

My favourite Portishead song, what a great performance
never thought I'd see a full orchestra and a turntable used in the same performance. First time listening to Portishead, and I think it's beautiful
Check out Something Wicked This Way Comes by 'The Herbaliser' if you like that sort of sound. Also a great tune.
the whole performance is one that i would have literally killed to be at.
I thought that for years. I would sell my soul
SAME
NO more such bands. I don't know where the heck they found these ideas. Freaking complex and deep arrangements!
Check out Hiatus Kaiyote's new stuff - different, but really brilliant
Check out Mitski

I'm still playing Portishead on cd in my car 2021!!!
2024
Whoever had the chance to witness this performance live was blessed. No doubt about it!

She has such a damn amazing voice. Gives me chills every time.
He's a f'ing phenom FOR SURE. And to sound like this live?!?!? Almost un-f'ing-believable
one of the best portishead tracks...
Her vocals are exactly like the recorded version! Awesome track
their music is a big part of my life's soundtrack.
simply amazing.
These are some of the most real emotions I’ve ever felt. Such a hero’s song.
Badass song. Perfect for movies.
Damn... I love this song so fucking much. Portishead is on the top of my list of my most desired bands to see live. Their performances are hypnotic.
EXCELLENT!! That's All I can Say!! When I first heard this Album while living in Germany!! I was Mesmerized watching this Entire Concert!!
yep, one of my favs!!! i remember recording this from the bbc, then 2 months later my dad taping horse racing over it!!! damn video stickers!!!!
the coldest song on earth
this is so wicked
Bjork iv seen it all
she sounds just as good live as on her album sdkljfsal
I am actually trying to figure out if she is lip syncing here. It's incredible
so badass it'll keep you up at night for ages
Portishead should do an opening song for a James Bond movie.
quicklern818 even bond ain’t cool enough
i hope portishead will always has better things to do
For Christ's sake, NO! lol
they sampled the james bond theme
@@ej304 Sour Times
They play brilliantly together, incredible!
Organization is sooo sweet love it
Best song ever! The guitar riff is awesome!! Sounds like a James Bond theme song but way cooler!!!!!
Que constancia en el sonido, dinamismo concreto, espectacular performance, grande Portishead!!
I love how Beth just steps back at the ending-and just CHILLS🤷🏻♀️
this is one of my favorites, especially this performance.
fuck the everything. holy art.
When I heard it for the first time in 1998, slightly acidic, it spread me on pieces.....
Это моя одна из самых любимых тем. Я под нее медитирую и оргазмирую одновременно
can't understand how come such a good video get only 112 832?! everything's just perfect.
saw these on this tour it was great fun

Magnificent.
vanguardia total!!!
A good weird singer, all i need
Arrepiante e adorável... amo amo amo...
Portishead is awesome. Nothing like 'em in the world...if not, I'd like to see who else plays like 'em.
Beth is really powerful here.
great song!!!
Holy fuck she’s great live
Capital 2011 :D una noche inolvidable :'')

Классная музыка. классная команда.
Sinistro! From Brasil
Ah, to be in 1997 again...
I was thinking the same dummy was on constantly
This live version runs circles around the studio version. Wish I coulda been there vibin on top shelf weed and shrooms.
You're right, the album version is too slow
This version comes off of messy, studio version is much more clean imo

I love everyhing about this except for one part. 2:55 I feel like she started a little off beat. But none the less, All Hail Beth Gibbons.
It remids me of Seasons In The Abyss by Slayer... But sultry...

God i love portishead, and this song. But I hate the room they performed in, too much echo.

Portishead recorded music to use as samples, so it’s their music that he is scratching (they did this to avoid any lawsuits
