Standard Omni - a potentially great skate with some teething issues

  • Standard Skate Co officially released the Omni skate in 2024 and over the past month or two it has been appearing in skate shops across the world. The brand is owned by Lawrence Ingraham and the team consists of Stefan Brandow, Yandriel Silverio and Brian Weis.
I have been skating the Standard Omni for the past few weeks in various setups, using different heel pad configurations, experimenting with different frames, and in this video I discuss everything I enjoyed about the new boot from Standard Skate Co and the aspects that I would like to see addressed in future releases.
I skated the size large Omni shell with a size large Intuition V2 Liner. I am a size 10UK shoe and I have previously skated size 9.5UK skates in the USD Sway and USD Aeon, and the size medium Them 909 with a size large intuition V2 liner.

I love this skate. I just bought the white and black version both of em. I first got the white and I was so happy and I just had to have the Black ones. I bought my size I didn't down size and I think that's why I didn't have any pain issues. I felt the ankle was sized just right etc. no skate is ever perfect. Every product ever made will always have pros and cons. Nothing is just done 100% right or to meet everyones criteria. But as far as a whole stock skate I think this gentleman did it Soo well. I love supporting this company called standard. The owner and I have emailed Alot dealing with some stuff. Not just an employee but the owner, this speaks volumes. He's down to earth and helpful and he genuinely cares. I hated dealing with Razors just awful. Great review. And I do think for a stock set up u can't do better. And the customization only makes it a diamond product. Good price good product and honestly the looks are perfect. Unique yet simple nothing all loud like u said. It's just right. Standard is getting my money.

Great review. Seems like if you have a 275mp and a somewhat wide foot, these will not be roomy enough in the toebox. I've noticed several reviewers having this same issue. Some skates have an issue with hardware bits being sharp or sticking out a little bit. My main go to is to tape over the hardware parts that are sharp with electric tape. You can use craft foam plus the e-tape for parts that stick out more. This will protect your liners. I did this with my Factions. The inner cuff screws are very sharp. I didn't want my liners getting cut up or my hands when removing the liner. E-tape worked perfectly. I use Uline electric tape. Its sturdy and will not slide off in the heat, which is what cheap electric tape will do. Hope this info helps anyone out there, especially my fellow Faction-eers.

Great review. I picked up the Omni small shell and run a Reign V3 liner in a size 6.5 UK. I’m a 255mm mondo.
I need to run both heel pads to get enough toe room, and I had to heat mould twice to stop the heel pinching. I still get a little bit of ankle pain after long sessions.
However - to skate, I absolutely love them. They feel incredibly solid and supportive. Great sound on grinds and drops. Slide great for me.
I’m just getting back into skating after a 12 year hiatus, and these skates have been superb to me so far. Royales feel solid and I was getting topsides on ledges after a couple of sessions.
I need to skate them more to see what happens, but overall I completely agree with your review! Great launch product for a new brand, let’s see where they are in a year…

A very fair review... I think many people, myself included, had an emotional connection to the Omni even before it was released. Law was so open with the r&d that you felt involved.
I'm hoping I can skate and enjoy them and the don't end up on the naughty shelf with my Brutale's. Both cuffs, as you highlight, cause similar pain through the rigidity.

Thanks for this very honest review!
Totally agree about cuff stiffness. About fitting, I had the invert problem:
I began with my skinny boy liners (bought shell only), boot length is perfect for me but my narrow feet were literally swimming sidway and up/down in the front of the boot. And worst, like other people, I had horrible ankle pain near the last eyelet.
Since I swap to fatboy liner (think is the same with crowns) + myfit footies donut ankle protection, no more issue. The fitting on the front is perfect and the thickness of the fatboys "cuff" allow me to ride with a very loose buckle tightening and bend easily on royals. I was very circumspect at the beginning with this skates. Now I love them! If this comment can help narrow feet people like me...

Standard could bring out bolted cuffs and sell cuffs with different durometer options for the next iteration of the omni perhaps? Its something i'd love to see a company do. Cuffs are almost always too stiff for me, which I why I skate Shadows right now.

Thanks for mentioning that bolt/liner thing-checked and noticed the outside of my Intuitions getting a bit roughed up😮. Anyway I like them ok so far-just have to get the heel height right. I have both Standard ones in there, but I am gonna go Full Send again and put the Intuition one back in as well. Whether the cuff is stiffer or not, I can make do…maybe I’m not doing royales proper, but I’ve grooved in my backslide and frames quite a bit to make it work, and I’m optimistic the cuff will soften in time. Like you said though, it’s not a crazy investment to just get the shell only, so not a lot lost if I have to go back to 909s.

You should try round 2 with the shoe stretcher. Perhaps a different brand of shoe stretcher. My right foot is also slightly bigger thn my left like yours. I made it work though. Try double stacking the standard shocks with no intuition shock absorber in. The intuition shock is super soft and imo not useful for anyone over 150 lbs. Since it's soft I think is also takes away responsiveness as well. Dead shock absorbers are a good option too to add on top of the standard ones. I use the dead L/XL Dead shocks in the small shell and that gave me more room in the toe. Thanks for the honest review. Hopefully you can get your hands on the softer cuff versions and do a review. Cheers bruv

I don’t like stacking heel pads. I don’t like my foot feeling high in the shell.

    • @pouringblue7
      @pouringblue7 2 месяца назад

The Dead heel pad is about the same thickness as the intuition heel pad. At first glance the intuition heel pad looks thicker, but it's a super squishy and soft so with our weight on it it becomes the same thickness or thinner then the Deads. The dead ones are more responsible and keeps it shape way better. Hope you find a great liner/shock absorbers combo soon

My suggestion is use the myfit 2nd skin. That liner is thinner than the intuition V2.
I agree with the sizing. It’s a bit short. I am using size Large standard shell with intuition premium size 9-9.5 liner. They fit me great lengthwise (282 mondo). They fit about the same as the Them 909 shmedium. For the three shells (standard Large, them 909 shmedium, Roces 5th element size 8-9), they all are similar in length. So the Large standard shell should be size 9.5-10.
Standard website said they are considering making a shell between Large and XL. Which will be great for ppl with size US 10.5-11 feet

Most generic/boring looking skate in my opinion.I feel exactly the same about the Thems. Mesmers, at least, have an interesting shape. I ride m12s which are very simple looking skates too, but they have the advantage of being very thin which gives them a great look.
