I can't speak for these shows but I can speak about an Aussie company with a reality TV spot and the answer for them is a resounding yes. Then again I know an American company that didn't really pick up that much from a season they did a few years back. I think it is very dependent on your business and remember they get paid pretty damn well if the show is a hit and gets continued past season 1.

I think the youtube option is the best. You can control the work and schedule. It doesn't surprise me that production companies do shotty things. It's no different in corporate America, the big business says "do it this way." you reply "That's not the right way." and they say "doesn't matter, it needs to be done now, we're moving ahead." Then a little time down the road when problems arise, "Who's to blame?" comes up. There used to be a pride about craftsmanship in America and people would love it because they could count on it being built right the first time. Now it's corporations that don't understand what they build calling the shots. All they understand is F'ing wall street and what makes share holders happy. That's what's wrong with things like this. That's why America lost that handbuilt edge our previous generations had.

2-3 years ago when I was in Vegas on my yearly trip , I was like oh I wanna go see these shops. So took a cab over to kounts cars , which is off of industry road back in the industrial area and down the road from spearmint rhino strip club. I paid my money and toured the place and they were all nice. And then I asked one of the kounts people where WelderUp was and the guy was cool enough to drive me over there since he was leaving too. And I had never met the guy before this encounter. I then spent some time over at WelderUp and looking at the cars. You could tell that they did precision work as far as fabrication and paint , but somehow made it look like it wasn’t supposed to be , kinda genius in my opinion. But yeah that car community there seemed nice

I remember years ago seeing a car at a show that was a Monster Garage feature car. It was a total POS because just like with Counting Cars it had to be done within a time that would have made a perfect build impossible. It just had to look good on tv. The guy who owned the car said it took two weeks of additional work beyond when it was shown as complete on the show just to get it to make it more than around the block and for most things to actually work. He said there were places that weren't going to be shown on tv that were unfinished, unpainted or covered in overspray and that it was an electrical nightmare.
I'm in no way implying that any shop which gets a tv deal typically does shoddy work but that the projects done for the show can't be done right with the budget and time limitations placed on them. I'm sure they would never dream of delivering that quality work to an actual customer and if they didn't normally do great work they wouldn't have gotten the attention of tv producers.
Next thing you know we'll discover a lot of buildings on tv and in movies are actually just a facade.

To bad you didn’t have a host that’s from one of the reality car shows that this talks about not just someone on here promoting their own product talking in second person about others experience about tv shows

Danny is the one that had the Dracula TV show. Not his father. You would think a "friend" would know that. Honestly this is 8 minutes of this guy just having an ego. Not really any story telling at all. Just i know this this, this is what i know, i know this person, i did this, i did that, they talked to me because i know so much.

That is the one thing I was not a fan of with mainstream car "reality" shows is nothing seemed to flow like a real build. Sure hiccups happen BUT it is easy to go "AHH NO." That said, this is not to take away from these individuals' skills it is just is sad seeing things like that.

Everything for TV or movies is that way. If you ever see some cars from movies or TV shows in person they’re usually pretty rough and much of everything is just for show.
They’re selling a story and a show. And it needs to get done quick and cheap. So, things get done to where it’ll tell the story and look good on camera since making something into a high level show car is a lot more work and won’t really look different on the show.
But, the actual stuff the shop does for real customers is good so no need to be disappointed there.
