    Longines passion for mechanical timepieces is unmatched. In a world where some of the biggest watch brands in the world were taking a knee to quartz, Longines fought back. Ultra-Chron, a high beat mechanical movement, accurate within 2 seconds a day, was born. Now, in 2022 Longines is paying tribute to their ground breaking movement technology, and always, they aren't holding anything back.

    Longines is a great brand, with a ton of heritage. It should have been right there with the likes of Omega and Rolex. Sadly, it finds itself in the extremely competitive market bracket and is seen as an entry-luxury swiss watch by most. Swatch won't allow Longines to compete with Omega which it totally could. But with Omega moving upmarket there is room for Longines to take that spot. I hope they'll review and reconcile their catalogue. Sure, there are many hits in their heritage collection. What I believe Longines needs is its own "sub" or "speedy". A line that is unmistakable Longines. I love what they're doing with their Spirit collection. Also hope to see more watches with this movement.

    • @heiner71
      @heiner71 2 года назад

      I suspect in this case it is because quartz watches became more accurate over time, no longer be doable with mechanic movements. Remember, Grand Seiko has watches that are only off by +/-10s per year.

    • @mitchmitchell9588
      @mitchmitchell9588 2 года назад

      Just so! It’s truly a weird phenomena! Technics went through a similar challenge trying to recreate the technology for making the 1200 turntables, which it had discontinued a years ago. Machines, critical documents, and the important know-how of people who manufacture the specialized tools we strap on our risk are lost or break down. Without a thoughtful steward, the old ways are quickly lost, sometimes forever.

    • @BosonCollider
      @BosonCollider 2 года назад

      @@heiner71 @PC Longines has the VHP which is +/- 5 seconds as well, tied with the Citizen Chronomaster and better than the Grand Seiko. The GS understates its perf but so does Longines and Citizen.
      It's great to see Longines finally going back to their roots and making watches that actually compete for the title of most accurate watch again, after decades of being subject to the whims of the swatch group. They were extremely innovative in the quartz space before the takeover and it is outrageous that Swatch wouldn't at least try to have them always produce the most accurate quartz watch.
      The aquisition of Longines by the Swatch group was hostile and intended specifically to brand mechanicals as luxury instead of outdated by simply killing off the high-quality swiss quartz segment despite the fact that it was perfectly profitable. They would have stayed ahead of the Japanese in precision otherwise, and the way Swiss innovation was killed off in the name of marketing was a crime.

    • @heiner71
      @heiner71 2 года назад

      @@BosonCollider It seems like the point I tried to make was lost here. The OP stated that "I never understand when someone creates something long ago with less technology around and then struggles to recreate it in a time period FULL of technology." The point I tried to make is that today the quartz movements are so accurate that nobody would be able to create a mechanical movement with the same or better accuracy as the best quartz movements.

      Exactly. This is a great looking and spec’d watch, but unless I’m missing something, the original model from DECADES AGO was spec’d to +/- 2 sec per day, and the new 2022 model is only spec’d for -4/+6 sd? There are a quite a few METAS chronometers that meet that same exact spec today, so what exactly makes this the “World’s Most Accurate Watch” ?

I wouldn't necessarily say small, as a 42.5mm Doxa 300 does not wear small, but it does wear WELL.
